Guthrie also keeping Pendles to 26 disposals while racking up 18 is massive, where as in the last couple of years he has torn us apart.

We finally have a tagger boys!

He might have had 26 but had bugger all impact with them, and I dare say 12 were 1-2 handballs to....himself.
Guthrie smashed him.

Still massive problems with the opposition small forward. Mackie can not play as a defensive defender (doesn't that sound stupid) against the smalls as he is too loose. Guthrie would be great if we had 2 of him.

I think of Mackie as a wingback type, certainly more attacking than most defenders but he also showed tonight that he can defend when needed. Saved at least 2 goals that I saw

What a crock. A poll on Channel 7 said Isaac Smith would beat Blicavs in a 2km time trail. Blitz would beat Smith by 200m.

Noticed a tweet from our old friend KissStephanie after the game too, basically saying Collingwood are a better side than Geelong, and it was only their injuries - both before and during the game, that cost them the win. I'm just waiting for her to come back on here and say Collingwood would've won if we had kicked straighter. ;)

Mackie is not a lock down player - he is our first line of attack. Enjoy.

It doesn't matter who is standing Elliot when he takes mark of the year and two miss kicks land in his lap.

But yes .......hopefully one of sheringham, Bews or Thurlow will follow Guthrie and concentrate hard enough to lock down in future. Sheringham surprised me tonight.Seemed reasonably composed for so little experience.

Grundy had 20 hitouts to half time but finished the match with 24. The opposition is going to start to play two full time ruckman against us, otherwise we will have a huge advantage in the second half through the middle.
If they have two.

damn those scientific polls. oh wait..

i really dont care who would win a running race, as long as we can win the footy games :D

Yeah but would elliot have kicked five on guthrie? Pity we dont have two of him because we need him in midfield and defence.

If Pendles has 30+ quality possessions its good night nurse. He will generate more than 5 goals as the great playmakers do.

Guthrie in the middle makes sense now, and in another couple of years he will be in the best dozen creative mids if this trajectory is maintained.

Hawkins just huge in the last when we needed him. The people I was sitting with were basically saying all night, even before the game started how we needed him to stand up. And did he.

Selwood. Into $7 for the Chas I see. What a player.

Really happy with GHS's game. Got involved, kicked goals (again - didn't think he had this string to his bow) and looked really composed.

Lonergan played just about a 10 out of 10 full back's game. Marvellous. Amazingly, still such an underrated player.

Guthrie did another great job on another A-grader. This was a big hole in our side last year so a massive find for us. I still hope he can be released to play a more attacking game from time to time.

Sheringham was OK in the role but the big negative was his kicking. The best I could describe it was VFL standard. But on that performance there's more AFL footy ahead for him.

As for the game, wasn't much of a spectacle. I kept thinking, "how are they still in this?" We seemed to dominate for large periods but not capitalise. Largely this was due to our poor movement of the ball going forward and then sloppy goalkicking.

It's great to be 3-0 but gee there's plenty to work on.

Just home from game. Nice to get an "ugly" win at this time of the year when really its just important to be getting the 4 points and not sustaining too many injuries. Our best footy can wait until later in the year hopefully.

For what it's worth I thought most contributed at some stage tonight. I was a little surprised that Brown was subbed as I thought he was going ok. Certainly not a game to drop him I would have thought.

Like others I thought Sheringham tried really hard and was good in the contest. Sure, he fluffed a few things but the good far outweighed the bad in my book. Clearly he will be one of the first out when the likes of Motlop and Christensen return but at least we have someone that can come in and perform a role. I like his speed - at one stage he beat Pendelbury in a one-on-one through superior pace and gave it off nicely.

Others to impress me at the game were Selwood (obvious), Hawkins, Lonergan, Guthrie, Stokes and Bartel. GHS was also v good I thought. Didn't appear as slow as I've perceived him in the past as well.

SJ had me swearing a fair bit during the game. I thought generally the kids were down a bit. Caddy made a few errors in traffic that were costly. Burbury had little effect and dropped a couple of marks he should have taken I thought.

Otherwise I thought we were just that bit cleaner than Collingwood which was the difference in the end. Couldn't count the number of marks they dropped and fumbles in contested situations from them. We weren't great but better than them. It was quite windy at the game, particularly up until 3/4 time which wouldn't have helped.

Anyway, just a win but a win nevertheless. Feel a lot happier going into Sunday than I would have if they'd overrun us at then end.

Ah yes, these two. I try very hard to be accepting of Bad Johnno given how good Good Johnno is, but geez he made it hard at times tonight. Caddy nearly gave up 2 goals in two minutes doing exactly the same thing - trying to do too much deep in defence and coughing it up. Know your limitations son!

Sheringham is a list clogger, just doesn't have the disposal. Don't waste games on him when Bews and Thurlow are fit.
Sorry mate, Sheringham was quite good. Applied plenty of pressure and done his job.
