SFL Division 1 2014

Southern FL just looked like they lacked a bit of pace. Was disappointing that Collins was unavailable due to his 5th cousin's wedding falling on the same day. I would've looked at playing John Graham as opposed to Chris - always have been of the opinion that John is much more lively and dangerous around the goals!

Don't believe there was much difference ability wise. WRFL played on at every opportunity and had players ready and willing to provide options. Don't think it was a question of pace but the SFL were made to look slow because there weren't enough to provide the gut running that WRFL utilized. As a result all the pressure got loaded onto the SFL and there was not enough applied back because of the lack of run. Forward entry was poor and spasmodic allowing the WRFL to run it out and reverse the perceived pressure. Forwards suffered as a result with no key excepting Gilbo when at CHF providing a target. Overall I think it was a good lesson for all that played for the SFL and combined with the realization that Luke James doesn't walk on water won't hurt the competition. A lack of confidence in each players ability was probably not warranted and more risk was needed to be taken. My view is that players were too conservative and WRFL just had a crack which snowballed over the course of the game with the SFL more intent on preservation rather than turning it around. Not a disaster BTW

we are cutting costs down at Mckinnon reserve in the hope of luring a big name. Saved $46 this week by taking our own beers to away game. We can have Bruno for 5.75mins on what we paid for him last year. Go Doggies

No doubt a StKilda City fan trying to stir shit up.

Can't control all of our supporters, and being a practice match you're not always guaranteed a bar to be open.....

Won't happen during the season.

So the season starts
Ladder for 2014
Cheltenham
Dingley
St Pauls
East Brighton

St Kilda City
Clayton
Chelsea Heights
East Malvern
Bentleigh

Heatherton

Tips R1
St Kilda City x2G v Bentleigh
Clayton v Cheltenham x5G
Dingley x4G v East Malvern
East Brighton v St Pauls x3G
Heatherton v Chelsea Heights x5G

Sometimes the more things change the more they stay the same. Game predictions this week, seen similiar posts under a different guise
Saints by 36 points
Cheltenham easily by 40 points
Dingley by 30 points over East Malvern
Vampires by 25 points
Chelsea Heights by 60 points

Final ladder too hard to pick but the top 4 will be St.Pauls, East Brighton, Cheltenham and Dingley not in any particular order. Whoever finishes 5th is simply making up numbers but should be between St.Kilda City and Chelsea Heights. The rest will finish wherever depending on games won against one another with Heatherton heading back to Division 2

Heard that there might be a bit of conflict at the McKinnon Road kennel. 2 fairly prominent players coming to blows. Any truth?

Nothing out of the ordinary when taking part in competitive tackling drills and two blokes go hard at each other. Nowhere near coming to blows and no further issues.

Great if that is the fact of the matter although my source seems to indicate otherwise but time will tell Greg. Apparently the forward wasn't all that impressed with supply and the supply wasn't impressed with the criticism. Nothing to do with tackling drills. Where there is smoke?

Well there was no issue on game day, so when else could this so called "potential dust up" have occured? There was one at training and it was during a drill where player A was tackled by player B vigorously and there was some words spoken then as soon as we were called in for drinks the lads were all good.

We give and take criticism at training/on game day and sometimes we don't take it well (i certainly don't take it well....ever), but usually within a few minutes tempers cool and it's recognised that we are just trying to improve each other and the team. DM me more info and i'll tell you if it happened or not.

The Beena have lost the coach Matt Jones and the skipper and spearhead Willis and Semmell, not looking very good for the beena.

Clayton with a late clearance spree. Matt Jones from Murrumbeena a handy get.

Joel Ferguson back, Vic Currie too.

I think you've covered it pretty well mate. Boys will be boys after all. Big game this Sunday, be interesting to see the new look teams at the top of last years table and what they can bring to the party albeit early days.

Hey boys a bit left field but is there any way to watch or get the videos of the last few grand finals? i wouldn't mind having a look at the 2012 senior grand final and last years reserves and seniors grand final. if can be uploaded or a site to get them will be a great help thanks boys.

Get in touch with the winning clubs who all have to compulsory buy 25 DVD's. May be some left over. Or get in touch with the league.

Maybe try YouTube. Games are uploaded there.

BA's SFL top 40 again been a good read. SFL Facebook asking for picks on predicted top 5... Any thoughts?

Super freak, best you keep your opinion to yourself!

I'm thinking James will be back a couple of pegs this year, Williamson at number 1, the rest not sure... Maybe rayson, James, arvo and Gilbert in no order?!!

No I think James will be No1 again. He was the difference in the GF last year
1- James
2-Williamson
3- Rayson- Havent seen him play but comes with huge wraps
4- Gilbert
5- Collins-See Rayson
The rest in no order Marasco,Bowman,Arvanitis,Graham and probably Hall. I might have too many key backs in that.
