Lets be blunt. The Judd decision has been a disaster. Not that he has been bad, its just that he was a horrible fit for the club when they drafted him. They needed Kennedy and another top 10 pick and they needed one more year at the bottom to pick up another 1 or 2 top 10 picks. Other things have gone horribly wrong but this was the turning point that will see Carlton not contest for a premiership until 2020 at the earliest. Said this 6 years ago and unfortunaely for Blues fans its hard to see how this won't be true.

Fair point you make however Ratts was never given the mandate to run the whole footy show down there being a first time coach. MM has his own people right through the the footy Dept and is seen as the messiah. He along with Sticks should held accountable, as per some board members are suggesting. MM has not got too much right from the start and I see this all coming to an ugly end!

You have to understand also why this decision was made. Because the values at the Carlton Football Club and different to most.
Their values are;
"beat everyone else now, at all costs"
Which leads to short sighted decision making and micro decisions without long term thinking. Simply, long term thinking doesn't exist at that club, and long term in this game is 3-5 years.

Great outcome for mine

Judas got what he deserved. But then he's never been about the team. It's all about him.

It's not a great position to be in, but it's round 4 FFS. Mathematically we're two wins from the top 8. How much longer do you keep trying? What kind of question is that? Are you going to write off your teams 2014? The only team the Tigers have beaten is one you think should now abandon the season and even then that win was due as much to that team kicking themselves out of it. Are you giving up on your Tigers?

I wish we could start 2014 again at the pre-season, the warning signs were there in the NAB Cup when there was no run and spread against Melbourne. We most likely won't play finals; the problems appear to be deeper than what can be rectified with "Pull up your socks, son!". The list needs a stocktake and overhaul for 2015, but doesn't require another "rebuild". Neither does Carlton's for that matter, but the list problems are a good deal more extensive than Richmond's. None of our key players are 30+.

I reckon Richmond is Carlton of 2012.

Not impressed you lumped Mckernan in with Mercuri.. one… Corey has played at a different position, played and succeeded at TWO clubs… B&F's - AFLPA MVP speak volumes and Mercuri was somewhat an opportunist player with flair. Gibbs is NOWHERE NEAR Mercuri's class.. let alone McKernan's.

Apart from playing in a different position, not sure what you have to not be impressed about comparing Mckernan with Mercuri.

Mercuri also has a club B&F, was an AA and if i'm not mistaken, was the runner-up in the brownlow in 99.

Describing Mercuri as a 'opportunist player with flair' is severely underselling him IMO.

I did throw in the word… 'class' I believe.. :pMissed that goal from point blank in the '99 Prelim downgraded…. underselling justified. :D

Not sure you bothered watching the '99 GF… McKernan took Kouta (in his PRIME) to the cleaners. :thumbsu:

Fair enough if you think that. I've been through enough to know when Richmond's stuffed and when we're really stuffed. 2014 will be a wasted year and supporters are rightly disillusioned and angry, but if the football department is worth its salt we should bounce back next year. The list profile is such that it'll be a bump in the road.

Not disputing McKernan's standing in the game or if he was the better player.

Just thought you were underselling Mercuri labelling him a 'opportunist player with flair'.

Judd decision was not a bad one, he was the only bloke that showed our youngsters at the time how to train and work hard. We are just not playing a game style suited to the players.. the players want to run & carry its their instinct (walker, simpson, murphy, tuohy, buckley, gibbs, yarran, garlett etc) with crash and bash in the middle (judd, bell, robinson, carrazzo, ellard, Curnow, armfield). Instead we play this slow one on one along the boundary where their instinct is to run and spread and move the ball quick and take risks. At this minute they are low on confidence because they are scare of making mistakes. If the coach is unable to adapt to the playing list strengths then he has to go.

MM will never do that...

Strange thing is, sounds like you want exactly what Ratten did.

Get serious, you can't realistically say your list is anywhere near that of; Port, Geelong, Hawks, Essendon, Freo, Pies, North, West Coast, GWS or Suns... You have a bottom 6 list. The sooner you realise this the better.

Well that's the list he inherited and he has recruited players that run and carry also, there is absolutely nothing in the two pre seasons he has had that showed players are one on one football players other than Daisy. It required some tweaking in its defensive structures so the list can be more systemised than Rattens which was never going to win us a flag - but he has failed as the list is not playing to its strengths. We are going to keep losing if he keeps being stubborn.

are one on one football players other than Daisy.
Softest, squibbingist, non-one-on-oneingist player I've ever seen. If you're relying on Daisy for that... :drunk:

Ok ignore is a good feature I agree.. Daisy is definitely a one on one footballer FYI.

I think you are very kind here ... I was thinking it would be closer to 2024 or maybe even longer than that. And this is assuming that Carlton recruits someone who actually has some idea of what youngsters to draft and how to develop young talent. Get the next rebuild wrong again and I think that the next Carlton premiership players haven't even been born yet !!!

You don't watch much football do you? Try watching Hodge or Selwood...

And what realistic Carlton supporters are saying that they are any where the top 10 -12 teams ? I am yet to see any significant numbers who are saying that they are !!!

Lot of good Judd's training did hey. Murthy, Gibbs and Yarran are soft as butter and many of the other top draft picks since then haven't even made it. Judd's training tips were obviously no good. The bigger question is why the hell were you wasting your salary cap on getting a part player part coach such as Judd rather then just hiring coaches outside the salary cap to show how the kids to train hard? Ablett, Bartel, Selwood et al didn't need some superstar player part coach to show them how to train.
