Left SS to come to BF and have no regrets.
Don't get back there at all these days.

Much less b1tchiness on this forum and a good bunch too

I have been on SS since the start, but have drifted over here more and more. Some good stuff happens there, but some of the posters just go off on their own agenda. And without being able to register there is no new blood which doesn't help.

Many of the good posters of days gone by don't bother any more. I have the same name on both, but think some lurk on the forums under different names. The famous ( or infamous) P66 is rumoured to be here under a different nick, but I don't really see his style in anyone on BF. I follow a few people on Twitter and enjoy that.

Bigfooty is more readable than SS these days, but I still go on both.

Because BF is boring compared to Saintsational. There are some real characters on Saintsational that are very entertaining and it is better than watching reality TV.

I still enjoy BF and read more than I post but that is mainly because most of the discussion on BF read like the regurgitated cliches and commentary in the mainstream media which doesn't entice me to engage in more discussion.
If you want to enjoy "characters" - by which I presume P66, BigMart and Stinger all insulting each other - then yeah, SS is the place to be.

If you want to talk footy, here might be a good idea.

Your second paragraph is not accurate. There is plenty of conflicting opinion and even controversial opinions from BF posters the difference between the two forums is BF discusses footy and doesn't drift whereas SS too often sways from footy discussion and gets personal.

Same with me, I registered an account with them before I joined here and never got it approved, not sure why.

Prefer this forum anyway, better posters here and much easier to read with the white background, the dark background at Saintsational makes it difficult to read.

I also like the fact that this forum has posters from other clubs, just posting on an exclusive Saints forum with only the same old Saints supporters would get pretty boring.
A whole lot of this. Getting the other teams' supporter's insights is always interesting, and its a pretty easy to find how players for other teams are tracking.

Plus, Richmond's board has been priceless reading after their losses this year.

Both sites have their pluses and minuses.

A long time ago I searched the web for a website to discuss Saints related stuff and be privy to insider talk such as training and players returning from injury etc. I found a site (my mind is blanking on it but it was something simple like Saints.com) and it was a discussion forum. Spelly was a major contributor and may have been a moderator there. I heard about Saintsational and joined up there as well. Saintsational became a big part of my life. In a few years I accumulated more than 4k posts and loved it. They had some problems and everyone had to re-register losing all our histories. I started again there but it was less friendly and I visited less frequently then dropped out altogether.

Eventually I found BigFooty. I visited the Saints board but it was pathetic. The board wasn't moderated at all and opposition posters regularly visited just to troll or flame. There were very few interesting threads. I preferred to post on the main board. If you think St Kilda is held in low regard now, you should have seen how they viewed us back then. I would stand up for the Saints but I was in awe of the true internet warriors who fought the nasty rich club supporters and set the biased mongrels right by quoting facts and telling it as it is. I admired these guys and envied their confidence to handle several foes at once. After a while I started using the Saints board more. There were a few very good posters who also posted here and we made the board a friendlier place. When I became a regular poster on this board we had a much lower postcount total than the Fitzroy board. See here and here

I got it into my head that despite the small number posters that we had, the quality was good and the banter was friendly, that we could make the board a decent place for Saints fans to visit. After a couple of years, the admin here decided that the Saints board needed moderator/s (Fred had been doing it but was taking on more duties as an administrator). Sainter was an obvious choice - he has the temperament and the good sense required to keep the place in the same style of comfortable discussion. I became a mod about the same time and have been ever since.

I like to think that this board has been an island of sanity when many other Saints sites were going berserk. I have strongly stood up for the rights of Saints supporters to have a place to have their say about their club without the scathing attacks of ill-informed outsiders interfering. I also hope to keep the environment here friendly enough that our own posters are not unreasonably criticised by other Saints fans - because it can inhibit discussion.

That said the mods have little to do with the quality of posts on this board. Once posters understand the boundaries, they usually work within them. As it has grown, the board has become a community - not everybody loves everybody else - but there are enough posters to have a wide range of views. There is something for everybody here. I hope it stays that way.

If you have suggestions to improve the board - then either post them here for discussion or start a convo with me

Great post Kildonan To the credit to you, Squizzy1970 Armitage2Riewoldt Look2Me4Guidance and other moderators before I have joined, the tone, feel and respect of this board, is down to the moderators. The deleting, or banning of trolls, the quiet PM telling me politely to watch my tone, or personal comments, are all those quiet, often unseen actions that contribute to what we see as positive about the Saints forum.

Many, many outstanding posters, insights and views and different slants on all things St Kilda on here. As someone who lives outside the hub of football central in Melbourne, I do very much appreciate all that you do, that provides us with a forum that we can all enjoy. Only regret is that I didn't find it earlier.

Thanks Sunshine Saint. The post above looks like I was trying to bignote myself but the truth is it was getting late and I just decided to finish by posting what I had typed. The post was getting to that TLDR length and I was going to dribble on about how great my fellow mods have been and how many wonderful posters we have had who do not post here anymore.

Credit must be given to the guys who do the work, like Squizzy1970 Armitage2Riewoldt Look2Me4Guidance sainter and Fred who all have sacrificed their time and effort to making this a better place. Other mods have helped out as well but it is the posters we have here that make this place.

There are many who leave for a time, some return, some are lost to the annals of time others return and start up with a brand new name. Sometimes I am too stupid to recognise them, other times I can. The core of posters here remain respectful of other poster's opinions and are not simply here to impose their view on others.

Kildonan

I was exactly the same. When i joined up to BF, I lived on the main boards because the StKilda forum was so pathetic. I then went on a hiatus from footy forums for a few years & came back around 2009-2010, & BF had gone completely vice-versa. The main boards were/are now full of rubbish self-righteous threads where god forbid you have an opinion that differs from the majority because you'll be abused & berated, & its the team boards that get the healthy discussions & 'friendly' heated banter

Kildonan I Agree that there are pluses and minuses in both the sites.

I have been a very active member of Saintsational since 2005 however it has only been the past year or so that I've been reading BF. I am starting to warm to the place especially now it seems that Saintsational is being taken in a direction by an individual that is at polar opposites to the want of the members.

It's possible you will be seeing more SS members cross over to BF and in actual fact I already notice some members have already defected in the past week.

Saintsational is in crisis due to one person believing they know what the members want. Like all good businesses, you need to listen to the market.

Bluey was the saints board first mod.;)

There were some interesting characters on there.

RodgerFox was the perennial pessimist / realist.

P66 was funny. Never took himself seriously and was the master at calling people out when they made a dumb comment.

JoffaBoy is very well educated and has a vocab that can shred you to pieces in 2 sentences or less. Totally enjoyed it, even when he gave it to me.

Gazrat: arguably the most intellectual poster on there. In the battle of wits, he is the hardest nut to crack. Had a great way with words and hope he seriously writes a book or two.

MySainters: I still remember when you joined and had the image of your son as your avatar... until that moron told you that he had a fat head.

At end of the day every forum has its own place, they all have their positives and negatives. You just choose which posters you interact with and those you dont. Don't think any site is going to "overtake" one or the other. There's good and bad posters on both forums. People overreact after losses on both aswell.

Just have to remember we are all on the forums for the same reason, the St Kilda Football Club.

Fortunately or unfortunately (in my past experience), I have been involved in a few micro social networking sites (such as Saintsational). These sites are highly popular with their users but have limited opportunities for revenue, growth and expansion due to their limited reach.

They may have limited opportunities but they still require the 24/7 maintenance of larger sites. Which can be debilitating when there is little opportunity for revenue. They only thing you end up doing is "begging" your users for funds, which is also debilitating.

Unfortunately for Saintsational it will be that the big engulfes the small. Examples are facebook has engulfed social networking sites, Google has engulfed all search engines and in time Big Footy will engulf all micro football sites.

Wait, so Big Footy is essentially the Borg in your estimation?

And without wanting to sound like a killjoy, that is great and more the merrier, as long as SS crap doesn't come here. We are not the Balkans / Middle East where it is acceptable to carry on long term grudges and grievances. Other than that, I look forward to the positive posts and opinions of even more die hard Saints fans.

If you look at my join date, you will see I have been on bigfooty for a very long time. Mainly post on the cricket forums in summer.

Was a long time protagonist on the main footy boards in the mid noughties fighting the good fight against mainly deluded Carlton supporters.

Had many a long battle with many an opposition poster.

Drifted over to SS as many of my friends who I go to the footy with posted over there. Almost every one to a person does not post there any more.

I am the same now. The moderator over there has become a dictator and moral crusader. His opinion is the only one that matters. Power drunk - can you believe it????

I will not post over there again, as many have said there are a couple of posters there that just wrecked the joint. BigMart thinks he knows everything about football, and he and P66 get into page after page of pissing contests.

Anyway SS is in a death spiral, old time posters are deserting like rats as this moderator carries on like a Kim Il-Jung.

Dont worry, I treat Sainter supporters with respect on these boards, and have postred here on and off for nearly 15 years so i know the drill.

Dont go to Saintsational for any Sainters information, it is a dump made worse by the overlord preaching from his pulpit.

What is bizarre is you see the combative posters from SS on here and they act like contrite school children with their hats on their laps. This place is a bit classier but it can be a little boring chatting only with the ra-ra brigade. Sometime you just want to pull up some idiot ripping into our players and point out their lack of credibility or humour some self aggrandising fool who thinks they know more than the entire staff of the club.
