The midfielders they pick are INFLUENTIAL on the results they just are. Ward is a great leader but come on be realistic, he is just solid, or to be kind just above solid. It is his leadership that is great, but they don't pick AA's on that usually. There are better midfielders who have better numbers than Ward, end of story. There are forward-mids like Luke Parker (just as an example) with better numbers.

It shouldn't be about the numbers... If it was then Jack Riewoldt would be named at Full Forward.

Ward has been immense this year. If you want some numbers, here you go:

Ward- 26.3 possessions per game (13.9 contested, 5th highest in the league), 6.3 Tackles per game (8th in the league in total tackles), 7.7 clearances per game(second in the league).

As a midfielder it is about numbers and influence. He averages 26, so what, most good midfielders are averaging more this season, not to mention forward/mids like Parker who have more goals on the board. If Ward was THAT good your team would have been more competitive. There are better midfielders. As I said I could live with Cameron getting one. I could live with Heath Shaw getting a gig and to be fair he is a better choice than Ward at least, but fitting Ward in, you are leaving out more influential midfielders.

Ward averages 1.9 less disposals per game than Beams, in other words who gives a shit, especially considering in one game he was subbed early in the second quarter with a concussion. But if you're going to throw around stats, he is smashing out 7.7 clearances per game and is going at a massive 70.7% disposal efficiency.

Callan Ward is definitely in contention for a spot in the AA midfield, he's in my current side.

Hill is just an ok player. Finds the ball but his kicking and bag of tricks isn't as good as other guys you could describe as wingers.

Without thinking too much I can name 3 players I would rather have running down the wing with the ball - B.Harvey, Polec and the other Hill.
Hills kicking is actually quite good. One of the players I like to see with ball in hand.

B: Michael Johnson, Alipate Carlile , Michael Hibberd
HB: Shaun Burgoyne, Eric McKenzie, Kade Simpson

C: Bradley Hill, Josh P Kennedy, Scott Pendlebury

HF: Luke Breust, Nick Riewoldt, Robbie Gray
F: Chad Wingard, Tom Hawkins, Lance Frankin

R: Aaron Sandilands, Dayne Beams, Gary Ablett

I/C: Nick Malceski, Travis Boak, Brent Harvey, Luke Parker
Brad Hill has been fantastic this year but not AA yet.

Amazed that once again Stokes is getting no mention. Not saying he is a lock AA or anything but if we are discussing the Hill brothers, Polec and McVeigh then Stokes has been the better player no doubt in my mind. Actually I have him ranked equal second for Geelong players this season and was third last year.

If they are naming a winger (specialist) and they rarely do, Harvey is so far ahead of the rest, Brad Hill needs at least another season for mine. Lewis Jetta had a better season kicking 40 odd goals and didn't get a spot. They rarely pick wingers, there are always a zillion pure mids they try and put in.

Agreed, I can't remember the last time a specialist winger was named.

Hill is having a break out year, and providing a lot of excitement. But it is not an AA year.

From the Hawks the only players that are really a chance are Bruest, Burgoyne and Gunston. Gibson and Mitchell were until they got injured. Lewis and Roughead both an outside chance if they have big second half of the season.

Mark Robinsons team
N Smith, C Hooker, M Johnson
N Malceski, S May, K Simpson
D Beams, J Kennedy, T Boak
L Breust, N Riewoldt, J Gunston
B Harvey, T Hawkins, R Gray
A Sandilands, S Pendlebury, G Ablett
J Selwood, N Fyfe, C Wingard, C Ward

Not bad, don't think wingard has been consistent enough though.

Would have a few others ahead of May and M.Johnson (Hooker (then Talia/Carlile in FB) or McKenzie) (Swallow, B.Smith, Burgoyne, Hibberd)

Think Hawkins and Roughhead is very tight but Hawkins gets the nod due to kicking more goals when it mattered and more marks inside 50.
Don't think Gunston deserves it ahead of Parker and possibly Dangerfield.

Don't think Fyfe deserves a spot ahead of Rockliff and would have Ward and Nathan Jones very close.

Gunston has had an excellent season: 16 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles and 2.64 goals per game. He's kicked 2,1,2,5,3,2,4,0,3,4,3. Six times he's kicked 3 goals or more.

Defenitely Luke Parker deserves a spot on the half forward line, but I don't know if there's a better half forward/third tall forward in the competition this year then Gunston. He's been consistent all season and if he can maintain this form he's looking a 55-60 goals. He's one of a few players vying for that spot.

Just assuming they put Beams or another mid type on a flank, would you have Gunston ahead of any of these? Gray, Bruest, Parker? It's tough but i think similar to the gray v wingard spot atm it may be hard to squeeze two in from the same team and Bruest would have to be ahead of Gunston atm.

I guess it will come down to whether they want a third tall option (Gunston) or 4 smalls to play around the chf anf ff. If they want a third tall then he makes it if not Parker, Breust, Gray, Harvey would all be ahead of him imo.

Don't want this to come across as bias but really reckon Dustin Martin deserves to be in the team this year. Having his best and most consistent season to date but unfortunately his individual performance has been overshadowed and lost in the Richmond shit-storm.

Kicked 17 goals already and averaging 26 touches a game.

I know that players like Gray, Wingard and Breust would all be locks thus far, but I still think he's been deserving of a spot on the half forward flank or on the bench.

He's had his best year for sure, but he hasn't been better than Gray, Parker, Beams, Harvey, Wingard, Breust and the likes who are competing for a spot on the flank. With a strong back half of the year he'll definitely be in the picture though.

It could be my bias but I don't see how the likes of Mckenzie, Carlisle and Talia can compete with Hooker seeing as they've all conceded similair amounts of goals and Hooker has the feather in his cap of being the best intercept player in the comp.

I'd have Hooker and Talia on level pegging. Carlisle just slightly below that. McKenzie drops a few for last weekends performance.

The AFL website has produced this 'effort'. Surely Dangerfield and Watson have been picked on reputation. If any other player were having the year they are they'd be nowhere near it. And excuse my bias but surely they could have fit at least one more Port player in, I mean we are top of the ladder and two games clear yet they could only fit in Robbie Gray, on the bench mind you, yet found room in the forward line for CHRIS YARRAN!!
