hate to ruin a good story with facts but you won the free kick count.

No, but the free kick count doesn't matter... unless it's in favour of Geelong. In which case, the free count indicates cheating.

For any team other than Geelong, it's all about the "vibe" regarding the free kick count. Even if the Hawks have had 32 more free kicks than Geelong over their past 6 games, they were robbed blind by the umpires, because the "vibe" of the umpiring wasn't in their favour.

Why are Geelong being disliked? Is it because they have been too good for so long? (Probably an unfair reason to dislike them) Or is it because they have appeared to have been getting an armchair ride by the umps/AFL for some time?

I don't think they are disliked.

I think many rightfully point out that they are one of the weakest sides to be so high on the ladder so late in a season - and that inevitably leads to argument (and we know how that goes on BF).

Do you guys ever come out on the wrong end of the free kick count?

I wish people would stop complaining about umpiring. There is NO HIDDEN AGENDA.
Just watch the game.
Complaining just feeds the trolls and makes you seem like a sore loser.

Round 16 vs Bulldogs, free kick count 25-14 their way. We just accepted that there were some iffy calls both ways, but you guys have carried on like pork-chops as soon as the siren sounded. Not a good look.

What does the post I quoted say?

Or are you pretending to be stupid?

Obviously my tone has been lost in my post :D

As I have said on many occasions, good teams find a way to win despite the umpires. It has been very hard to believe my own rhetoric this year. And last night (for me) wasn't about the frees paid, it was about the frees not paid.

It must be where they pay the free kicks then if the differential doesn't suit their argument (even though this thread started solely due to last nights differential)...... Geelong equal last in goals from frees. But but. Yep its the vibe.

Being from the Eastern suburbs, I only know a few Geelong supporters but this one guy I know has to be the most one eyed fan I have ever met. Geelong could be fielding a team of 10 yo's and he'd only have them losing a couple of games for the year. He is a pretty weird guy so in a way it's not surprising he's so one eyed but it does interest me what his views will be when Geelong do finally go back down the ladder.

Come to think of it, I would say from the small sample size I have met, on the whole they are the most one-eyed. But then again when you're up for so long you can sort of see how they are so confident. I'm sure some say the same about Hawthorn supporters.

As for the club, lot of respect for them but that doesn't mean I like them. I've always wondered why they are so liked by neutrals though. If you look at the game day thread of a Hawks-Cats game for example, 95% of neutrals are supporting Geelong. Especially when they have no less unlikable players than any other team

In the 2011 qualifying final I saw two hawk fans get up a clap and cheer when dan menzel did is knee....your fans are no role models either bud

You're right you know.

When a lift broke down in a CBD car park and an elderly couple couldn't climb the stairs to get to their car, Ballantyne went up, got his car, drove down and picked them up. He then drove them up to their car.

What an arseh*le.

Doesn't count when it's your own grandparents.:D

Boy, if that's the best you can come up with.....

What was your call on that anyway?

When I saw it live I thought it was very marginal as the ball did come out of Taylor's hands, but watching the replay Barlow was watching the ball through the air and their arms got tangled on the way down as tried to spoil. No way it was a 50 but Taylor thought he would tell the Ump what to do.

At least I actually provided some evidence as to why I think Geelong have become arrogant. We keep hearing about Crowley's dirty sniping behind play from Cats supporters and despite a camera being fixed on him for the last 5 times we've played all they have captured is Johnson headbutting, kicking heads and diving.

Yesterday's game was pretty bloody cynical.

They got the win, sured up a top spot and gained bragging rights against a rival. Good on them.

But it wasn't a good look

Free kicks paid to Hawthorn are correct and for noble and brave behaviour. Free kicks paid to Geelong are wrong and for cheating.

Think this summarises key arguments this thread

- That they are the only Victorian team with a home stadium and getting a tremendous financial result from it and a tremendous football result from it and that owning it hasn't run them into significant debt but thanks to government investment in building the thing has done the opposite

Only problem is, they don't own it.
