Tom Rockliff. Stand up Mr Rockliff, you are officially a 2014 All-Australian. He can’t miss out this year. As statement games go, yesterday’s was top of the range. Had a quadruple-double for a team beaten by 105 points. His stats: 22 kicks, 18 handballs, 10 marks, 10 tackles. Add six clearances and seven inside 50s and we’re talking about one of the great midfielder’s games.

Adding to that, he's completed a triple double (kicks, handballs, tackles) a further 8 times this year. Superstar.

One of the most impressive single-handed demolitions of another team I have ever seen.

Scott Thompson didn't get any Brownlow votes for his quadruple double in r9, 2008, in a 50 point loss to West Coast.
J Selwood received 3 Brownlow votes for his quadruple double in r17, 2009, in a one point win over the Hawks.

We will have to wait and see if McGlynn & Rockliff receive any Brownlow votes for their quadruple doubles.

One of the most impressive single-handed demolitions of another team I have ever seen.

I was going through the big 4 full forwards from my time watching to see if I could find any that had 10 kicks, 10 marks, 10 handballs and 10 goals per game. There were none. I then compiled a list of the games and the key stats for games where they had 10 shots on goal. It's pretty amazing and shows how much the game has changed in a relatively short time since the last of them retired.

Peter Hudson :
Games played : 129
Games with 10 or more scoring shots : 41 or 31.8% of his games or one in every 3.14 games
He averaged 17 kicks, 9 marks and roughly 9.2 (56 points) in each of those 41 games.

Tony Locket :
Games played : 281
Games with 10 or more scoring shots : 64 or 22.78% of his games or one in every 4.39 games
He averaged 13.5 kicks, 10.5 marks and roughly 9.2 (56 points) in each of those 64 games.

Jason Dunstall :
Games played : 269
Games with 10 or more scoring shots : 59 or 21.93% of his games or one in every 4.69 games
He averaged 15 kicks, 11 marks, and roughly 9.1 (55 points) in each of those 59 games

Gary Ablett :
Games played : 248
Games with 10 or more scoring shots : 64 or 25.81% of his games or one in every 3.87 games
He averaged 16 kicks, 8 marks and roughly 8.2 (50 points) in each of those 64 games.

By comparison Matthew Lloyd had 10 scoring shots in a game 10 times out of 270 games, Fevola 15 times out of 204 games, Jack Riewoldt 3 times in 153 games and Franklin 15 times in 199 games.

Could you imagine a player running around now producing numbers anything like one of those first 4 that I listed, they'd be building statues of them all over the place.

Hudson could win the Coleman playing 7 or 8 games a year.

Coleman himself kicked a double digit bag every 8 games in his short career.

Nevermind

Brent Stanton vs Collingwood in 2011 had 15 kicks, 13 handballs, 11 marks and 14 tackles. In the same game Dane Swan had 27 kicks, 18 handballs, 10 marks and 11 I50's in a different sort of quadruple double.

WTF? How is this even possible

Also I thought the more impressive statistic for mids would not be marks, but clearances. What about 10 clearances, 10 tackles, and lets say 10 contested possessions ?

Ablett Jnr :

13 kicks, 17 handballs, 11 tackles, 12 clearances, 20 contested possessions and 2 goals v GWS this season.

20 kicks, 10 marks, 18 handballs, 10 clearances, 20 contested possessions, 7 tackles, 8 forward 50 entries and 2 goals v Sydney 2010

20 kicks, 14 handballs, 14 tackles, 16 contested possessions, 8 clearances, 5 forward 50 entries, 4 rebound 50s, 3 goals v Fremantle 2011

18 kicks, 23 handballs, 13 clearances, 23 contested possessions, 8 tackles, 8 forward 50 entries, 2 rebound 50s, 4 goals v Adelaide 2011.

25 kicks, 20 handballs, 13 clearances, 27 contested possessions, 7 tackles, 9 forward 50 entries, 3 rebound 50s, 2 goals v Essendon 2012
