Now I know that some of the Carlton posters here can get a bit over-excited. But some of the others seem to want things both ways.

So can I ask everyone to sort this out once and for all.

Carlton will be a V8 running on four cylanders in 2002. Manton as their tall defender, and no Kouta - it's gonna be a struggle.

My option isn't there.

SOS and Kouta are champions but Carlton can cover them to a degree given our recruiting and still be a powerhouse in 2002. X-factor to go all the way is Mr Kout's ability to return late in the year.
I'm leaning a lot closer to this option than those available as well. After all, we are Blues supporters. We're the team that never lets you down!;)

They'll be missed.
All of a sudden, they're backline looks pretty slim with Manton and Mckay and Simon Beaumont..Carlton will struggle against the stronger and taller forward lines in the competition like Collingwood and Richmonds

SOS and Kouta are champions who will be corely missed...but not that sorely... i'm sure we can make the finals without them...every year you get retirees and injuryies but u just got make do and doi te ebst u can i beleive we can still make teh finals...not easily but no tstruggling too much as the poll suggests

I'll be even more confident of that when we have Braddles signiture! Unfortunately, things aren't looking good!:(

If you get his signature.

My tip? He'll retire. Bye bye Bluebaggers...

A shocking case of Carlton envy you have there Hitters.

Both great players. They will be missed but less than some might think IMO. You can possibly throw in Bradley (?). All great's of Carltons modern era and all played significant roles in recent success.

If you look at the season just gone I would say none had a big influence on a consistant basis. They contributed but not to their highest standards. Therefore you cannot measure their loss by looking at their best frorm. In the last couple of years they have either been injured (not Bradley) or out of form at times and the players and game plan have learnt to cover their loss or reduced influence to some extent. You cannot replace club legends and their loss will certainly be felt.

I think Carlton will slide a little. The retirements will be one factor but so will reliance on the thinner top end of the list - ie depth of the really top quality players. I know some Carlton supporters think players like Hulme, Plunket and Murphy can make an impact but they are not in the same league. Porter for McKernan could be a great swap but you have lost a quality ruckman and your No. 1 ruckman has had injuries. McKernan is just unreliable in so many ways.

All in all I think Carlton will slip a little but I think it will only be partly due to the retirements. I would have thought they would slip a little in any case. I think they will take a year or two to bring in some new players, solve the problems with height in the backline and re think the game plan a little.

Both great players, and Carlton must surely struggle to cover them, any side would.

You would have to think McKernan will spend some time playing at CHB next year - he is the extra tall they need down there.

McKay is a great player, Beaumont has improved and Manton can do a job - that's 3 players who can play tall. Obviously the next options are either Prendergast, Livingston or McKernan, none of whom have great experience (in McKernan's case, in defence).

They have a pretty potent forward line of Whitnall, Lappin, Hickmont and maybe Fevola if he pulls his finger out, and the on-ballers are pretty good too.

The x factor is depth of talls - if McKay or Manton was to go down early in the season, I doubt they could make the finals - otherwise 6-10 finish.

One season does not a history make Hitters. Do you really want to take a walk through Blues v Hawks memory lane with me? ;)
