No because he is a psycho nutter and left Port a rabble

IMO I think that is unfair

Yes maybe he got his fingers into to many pies at port however that may also be a reflection of the club at that point in time

I actually believe that as a coach he is a bloody good coach, at GWS he was essentially the senior coach with Sheedy no more than a front man during that time and the players absolutely loved him and the way he went about educating them on the game

Now at Richmond all you need to do is just as Dustin Martin on Choco and the endorsements are glowing

Yes Choco had his issues at Port however these issues seem to have started when the Board started to interfere and veto footy decisions, this would upset me to if I was the coach

Once in time good coaches that expired their time at a club for what ever reason typically found a new gig however our industry for what ever reason has become unforgiving and is providing few second chances, Williams, Harvey Ratten, Watters and I will be surprised if Sando, Voss and McKenna (when sacked) will get another senior gig

Blighty always says your a better coach 2nd time round so if Williams could win a flag first time there is no reason why he couldn't do it again especially if his sole focus is coaching

I also had the pleasure of meeting G Healy earlier this year at a corporate event and I asked him what was the most mystifying thing in footy over the past 5 years, his response "Williams not Coaching"

I have always maintained that supporters will be VERY happy.
I won't be happy…at all, if the coach is one of Ratten, Woosha, Bassett, Bolton, Dew, Sumich, Burns, Tudor, or any other assistant would-be, or any other numpty.

I want the 'wow factor' name to knock me, and in particular, M Rucci, out of the ball park. Got it!?

They used to work together at 5AA.

Bassett used a defensive, high pressure AFL game plan at Norwood and implemented it through the grades. He was an afl coach in the sanfl and was ahead of the pack. Will be ahead of the pack at afl level? I think he is good enough.

I've heard bass deliver a lot of speeches on and off field and he's a brilliant communicator. His post season 2010 and 11 speeches still stick with me, and he was right. On the other hand I've heard him give some pretty rough sprays, so yeh he's a bit of an odd cat. But anyway I've written about this before and it won't change our appointments for next week. I just hope he's on the panel.

I think, as a few people have said in the last half a dozen pages of this thread, that the real role of a good AFL Head Coach is to develop the game plan, set the structures and style of play, and then be absolutely rigorous and disciplined in enforcing those aspects of the game, as well as the standards and expectations across the playing and coaching group. I believe that's the absolute key. It's why the players were sad to see Craig go - his feedback and communication was consistent and rigorous - the players knew where they stood and what was expected of them; and Sando went, because his wasn't.

I believe that's why Clarkson and Lyon are such excellent coaches, they take a good list, and with the right gameplan and structures, but, more importantly, the fanatical approach to discipline throughout the list and the Club, they consistently make them premiership challengers.

I believe Bassett has that same fanatical, disciplined approach (you can see it from his time at Norwood, and it was so effective that it's still in place) and, with the right people around him (and he would need some senior assistants who were able to implement and be rigorous in maintaining his structures/standards), will make an excellent AFL Coach.

I'd like Clarkson, and I do think it's a possibility, but if we can't get him, Bassett would be my choice.

Let's wait and see what Lyon delivers

He has adopted lists on the up, failed to driver the big prize and in the process had both eyes on the immediate and not the future

Choco in charge of neck attire.
A very reliable source, very reliable, at the pub last night told me he knew for certain, after hearing it from a mate (both Geelong supporters) while he was away on holiday in Asia, that this mate's wife's friend works in IT at a 'certain' football club where she accidentally intercepted an email that states categorically that Chocco Williams will be coaching at AFC next year.

True, he firmly believes it to be true….yeah I know right?

I agree, but he's also taken teams with a few stars and a lot of roleplayers, and made them highly disciplined, premiership threats.

For the record, I think he has a number of flaws, and your comments on how he left St Kilda are accurate, but I believe Ross Lyon coaching us (or Clarko) would make us a top 4 side almost immediately.

We have an extremely talented list (albeit, we are almost completely lacking in depth, thanks Trigg, you prick), we have more match winners and stars than most of the teams in the competition; but our structures have been pathetic, our roleplayers are too erratic and inconsistent (and when you hear Talia <and others> on the radio, DURING THE SEASON, saying that the understanding/communication of exactly what the structures and roles are, is lacking, then you know we've got a massive problem) and our gameplan is a joke.

I'm of the genuine belief that a quality coach who can get our structures right and inject some discipline into how we play and utilise our roleplayers to their full potential (the Clarkson, one goes out, one comes in, type thing), will have us challenging for the top 4 next year.

Hell, we should've been a top 6 side this year, and we were shit most of the year.

choco had minimal support around him at port in his last years, the club was run on a shoe string budget. I couldn't possibly see him coaching us but there are a lot worse names being banded around than his.

Even with the recent changes, the trust between the AFC admin and it's members/supporters is incredibly fragile at present, I cannot see them putting Mark Williams into our senior coaching role in that context.

Choco would be a brilliant choice, I hated him with a passion for years, he was that good, he could straighten our club up nicely, I'm sure I could love him with the same passion if he is getting our boys to deliver the one percenters.

Not to doubt you, but that is one of the all-time-great inside sources connections - the friend of the wife of the mate of your source! :D

That said I think Choco would be good. My only concern would be him wanting to really be the head coach and not the assistant.

IMO Lyon is likely to leave Freo without a flag and it will be interesting to see what shape he leaves their list

Craigy was also good at turning role players into very disciplined players however IMO Lyon has had more talent at his disposal and if a bit of luck went Craigy way he may have had us in a GF

If a coach burns a list however wins a flag in the process well you take that however if he fails to win a flag and burns your list in the process, not good in my books

I rate Lyon as the best coach in this league. I love how his players play his way. He has gotten two basket case clubs withing a hairs whisper of a premiership. I love the physical commitment his players show. The discipline and the hardness. His players seem to develop as footballers under him, something lacking here for a few years. He seems to be able to work out the opposition and his players seem able to apply his instructions.

The only way I can see that unfolding is if Dew is our Senior Coach

I looked at him for about ten seconds with my most "you-****ing-****head" look, and then took the piss by referring to the chain of sources adding my cat and my father's ghost and his mate's wife's left one to point out that Chocco Williams coming here is total bullshite.

Alleged conversation between Rob Chapman and Mark Ricciuto leaving the pre-screening of The Chosen Few:

Roo: "Holy shit! Did you see how amateurish Sando looked?"
Chappy: "Yeah, but he seemed so passionate."
Roo: "We gotta sack him before this gets aired."
Chappy: "Yeah, but the bit with the sick kid.."
Roo: "That post game talk after the Collingwood game ...... sounded like an under 12's coach. Did you see that even Lyons talks to his players? We gotta sack him."
Chappy: "That line about having the best job in the world and the one about fearing the end..."
Roo: "For fu*ks sake! He was fondling Bucks **** just like I saw him with your wife at the B&F."
Chappy: "We gotta sack him!"

Maybe it is Mark Williams

And by "supporters will be very happy" they mean Port supporters

Nah, I actually rate Choco highly as a coach. Sure it finished shit at Port but it finished shit for Blight at Adelaide too. Not the only measure.

Can't imagine we'd go after him though.

Obviously I've thought Sando wasn't up to it for a long time, but watching that last night, it wasn't just me, he came across as very amateur and out of his depth, right?
