So no truth to the bit Jarman said about 'Hawks win Clarko comes, lose he doesn't'?
I know he said no on TFS on Thursday, but I dunno if anyone noticed, he seemed fairly reserved singing the sing today......got me wondering...

Like Ruc and Bone before him, Jars needs to say something scandalous and over the top before people actually listen to him. Zero credibility in the football world. Adelaide seems to be blessed with alot of these types.

So true, but really the AFC has shocked everyone by being so decisive and unforgiving in it's sacking of sando, drawing vitriol from journos and Football identities all over Australia.

To act that way, then promise drastic change - a revolution as this board is calling it, and say we will get the best of the best people in the right places to take the club towards a premiership, and then to appoint Bassett, an untried AFL senior coach - an ex-player no less who will be seen as more of the same and a new boys club member, will take amateurism to a level never before thought attainable. I hope the AFC is better prepared than that.

I sort of agree with this but who else is there? I don't see alot of strong candidates in the assistant coaching ranks. I also don't see any that we could consider long term coaches, which is want we need.

Personally, as much as I don't believe Sanderson will be a great senior coach, I think we jumped without thinking. With FA/trade week fast approaching our timing could not have been worse. We should have been wheeling and dealing potential trades behind the scenes a week ago. Lets hope someone is actually doing this on the new coaches behalf.

Jars was an awesome footballer......pity his media isn't any good !!

It wasn't 3-4 years, it was 1 year. In his first year he took Norwood to 2nd, a kick and a broken jaw to Phillips away from winning the flag from the juggernaut Centrals.

Yes there is romance from Norwood supporters but that's because we've witnessed first hand what he is capable of. Our club right now needs hope and a coach that will inspire supporters. Clarkson has that in spades but he's not coming. Bassett is capable of bringing that. I don't buy into only 1 year in the AFL system. He had a long AFL career as a player. He coached a club for 4 years and has now had another year in the AFL as a coach.

He's a strong individual who could handle the load.

But alas I doubt we will pick him. If we go with the safe option of a Ratten then that will be disappointing, he will be a good choice but not great.

I think Bassett would bring the "wow" factor, as he's a unique individual and would command respect from the players.

The Club needs a "wow" factor after all that's happened. If they go with someone bland or safe I'll be terribly disappointed. It'll be such an anticlimax.

i think the coach needs to be named asap so that he can decide a) who to trade b) what coaches need to be brought in and c)who to delist

Can you find out how much space we have as well

See there is no "space". There is an amount that if you exceed you have to pay the luxury tax above it. We have money and if we want the best for us, we will spend it!

I know, but he doesn't.

exactly nikkinoo spend whatever it takes to get the best coach you want and HIS assistant coaches

I think Bassett will be a very good senior coach one day.

Ideally though he'd spend several more years in the AFL system, perhaps experience a different role, different club or different senior coach, and then step into a senior role.

It's only because our job is available that he's being mentioned this early in his career. If it was Gold Coast instead of us who had the coaching vacancy no one would be mentioning Bassett.

I disagree - the reasons I think he'd make a great coach for us now are the same reasons he'd make a great coach for any club right now.

The reason I haven't or wouldn't mention him for the Gold Coast role is that I don't give 2 shits who coaches the Gold Coast.

I'm with you it's time for Bass to coach the crows.

I'm not a Norwood supporter but I have watched what he has done, just brilliant..
I also know someone who was involved and I was told about just how good the guy is, god like in his mind..
He told me many times about what an AFL coach he will be..
Then you see how he has turned players around in SANFL and AFL, listen to guys like Puopolo, you can't help but be seriously impressed..

If we turn him down simply because he needs 1 or 2 more years as an assistant, another club will be laughing in a few years I'm sure..
If we pick another guy who will be a gun, fair enough..

I call bullshit! The best decisions almost always were unpopular at the time!

Classic example is Hawthorn and Clarkson. Their board were also ruthless, promised the best of the best, sacked their coach and appointed Clarkson over much more fancied Gary Ayers at the time. Who is laughing now!

I am not a Norwood fan and I am far from a boys club fan myself. I have screamed in the past and was against getting former club legends or players to stick around in token jobs. Robran, Hart, Smart, Bickley...the list goes on!

But I want Bassett for the simple reason that he has it. He is a bloody good coach and will be someone's coaching legend in the AFL. I want us to get our legend. The fact that he is our former player or South Australian has sweet **** all to do with it. I want him because he has the ability and character to be the best coach this team has had and yes I include Blighty in that.

If we don't get Bassett, in 4-5 years time we will be bumping this thread and asking ourselves why didn't we do it back then. Just like we are asking ourselves the same question with Clarkson

The wherling and dealing is a job if the list manager and recruiting manager. Coach's input is not as huge as people make it out to be. They have some input but its not be all and end all.
