One thing about Bomber Thompson's refusal to even consider the Adelaide coaching job because it was his mate that was sacked from that position that sort of bugs me.

The most common reason that a coach departs from a club is that he is sacked. It's actually a normal part of football and a natural hazard of being a coach. Malthouse, Matthews etc and many other icon coaches of the game have said many times that the one certainty about coaching is that you will be sacked.

Adelaide are regarded as one of the big clubs of the comp and big clubs don't tolerate successive results of 11th and 10th for successive years. Throw into the equation all those crumbling losses of less than 2 goals and it was the non-surprise of the year that Sando got sacked. I didn't see it coming but in hindsight perhaps one should have.

Anyhow my point is this. I can't see why Thompson should see coaching Adelaide as a betrayal of his mate, as he had nothing to do with the sacking, and being sacked is almost as natural as breathing for an AFL coach.

I would have though he would have put on his big boy panties and jumped at the opportunity to coach a club with a promising future after letting his mate know that he was being offered an offer too good to refuse

Just my thoughts re Thompson. :)
I'll be interested if Thompson takes the Gold Coast coaching job, it's being reported he probably will be..
We conduct an internal review away from the eyes of the media and the public and we decide a guy who has been coach for 3 years needs to be sacked..
We are smashed from pillar to post about being unprofessional, rabble like, it was way too harsh - including from Thompson..

Gold Coast have a review that has been played out in the media and public, they're stringing McKenna along at the moment with most saying he's gone..
They are a new club, young players and so on and he is in line to get sacked after just 4 years..

That's all good though for Thompson it seems and he may be at the front of the line to jump in there.. Interesting if true..

To add to this McKenna is still currently contracted but there is a review underway and Thompson has spoken with Gold Coast about coming up there and coaching. So he wouldn't come near us because we sacked Sando, but he is willing to talk to a club about coaching when there is still an incumbent in place.

Double standards much I would have thought!

Besides which I thought he was over coaching, too much pressure on the family, happy to hand it back to Hirdy, can do what I want this year because after this it's over, burnt out, tired, etc etc etc??

Now he wants to take on a developing team? What, just because Gaz is there or what?

Chances are Gold Coast may have been in Bomber's ear during this season. Now the Suns are going through some sort of mock review just to satisfy the media and all involved. That's my hypothetical conspiracy theory... and I'm sticking to it!

Still think there were underlying issues re Sanderson that haven't come out yet, just the communication stance is what they are publicly sticking with.

He couldn't coach for shit - none of the things he was in control of, could be considered a success.

That's enough to sack him, for me, even without then throwing into the fact that we apparently had massive communication/culture issues with him.

Again, the Talia B&F speech says it all for me.

And the Crows get smashed for saying Sando should have been given another chance because of the injuries we had in 2013. Suns lose Ablett for half a year and they're going for the coach already.

Yeah maybe, but in that scenario it still goes against Thompson's high ground he tries to stand on regarding backstabbing coaches etc..
He would have been an active part in it then..

As I said, amazing he can now look at GC yet slam us for what we did..

Would make Thomson a flog

Mitch Clark of the coaching world?

I've suffered from depression myself so I'm not against Mitch coming back at all, as long as he feels he can give it a go. Depression is completely different from Thompson saying one thing and immediately doing the opposite.

I think we can just settle on the fact that no one in the "media" has the faintest clue and they're all just talking shit in circles

Are you just watching the poll vote climb or is there something else?

No inside info whatsoever, just a gut feel. Dew has plenty of gut too.

I think Dew ticks all the boxes in terms of experience both as an AFL player, AFL assistant coach and has been involved in premierships in the modern era both as a player and as an assistant.
