Yes, correct. Angus was wanting a year off from coaching... My word is that Clinton Watts was offered the job but declined... Angus is a very good coach with great club culture beliefs ,and proved this in his time with Broadbeach.Reckon he is a great choice by Southport.
Meanwhile, heard the Sharks are going flat out to recruit the guns from other relegated NEAFL clubs.EG, apparently have signed Grayson and Goldsmith from Labrador, and are in close neogaitions with 3 or 4 Broadbeach gun players.( with no deals done yet) .
They will no doubt recruit gun players from other areas,and I feel they will be a powerhouse in 2014.
 
So they want to progress in QLD but they take four clubs out of the league? Wow what an intelligent decision. That on top of Brisbanes 12 mil dept really tells you were AFL is going in QLD. Gold Coasts honeymoon will end and then it will all be on life support from the AFL.
 
What an absolute ******* joke NEAFL is. Just give QLD its own league FFS. Enough of this combined 'non-AFL state' bullshit.

Give NSW/ACT their own league, give QLD their own league, and give NT whatever the * they want.

Stop ******* over the states that are trying to 'expand'.

Great post I couldn't agree more each state needs to have their own State league competition. It seems as though all the current model proves is that clubs are finding it extremely difficult to stay in the competition with all the costs involved. More players are denied the opportunity to compete at an elite level. And many players cannot commit to the demands of travel when they are juggling family work etc. It seems all the NEAFL does is pander to the AFL reserves sides getting the chance to play against one another regularly. Fold the AFL reserves sides into the State League competitions and have a State League in NSW, ACT, QLD and let the NT side either disband or join the QLD league or the SANFL and be done with it. Current model isn't working which is evident by the number of clubs dropping out of the NEAFL and the number of players returning to lesser level due to the demands of having work a full time etc.

Well, something desperately needs to be done with the structure of the NEAFL.... Its just going backwards, falling apart which was always going to be the case,,,, just not sustainable in its current format. Not only have 3 clubs pulled out of the comp this off season, but the number of players that have already made exits back to the QAFL, Sydney and ACT comps and other minor comps is a sure indication that things just aint right.!!
At this rate,give it another season or two and the QAFL will be of a standard not far below NEAFL . They have 1st,2nd and third grade teams, so the local tragic can watch 3 games of footy on gameday etcetc.
The strength of grassroots footy is so powerful.!!!

Not the clubs fault. Could be another messy restructure in 12-24 months.
Can't afford to have the 3 QLD clubs drop back to qafl.
Hope it turns around.

Its fairly simple. To participate in the comp is a financial burden on the community based clubs ( be it all QLD,ACT and Sydney clubs.), needing a revenue of some 600k minimum to compete, ,,,, that sort of dough must be so difficult to raise every season, and already in the first season of the restructed comp, 3 clubs have abandoned ship.
We are seeing numerous players returning to comps such as the QAFL, etc etc. The travel and the training commitments are the concern especially for semi pro footballers.Its just not sustainable!!

It's happening in Queensland, too. But on the contrary, there are players that simply can't play at NEAFL level due to other commitments, so they're dropping to local clubs, thus missing out on drafting possibilities. Similarly, there are clubs dropping out of the NEAFL because of financial burden, while stronger and generally 'better' clubs are now sitting in a lower division and dominating it. It's really ****ed Queensland AFL at a grassroots levels. Pathetic.

Been preaching this for 3 years..... more damage is being done then good, and at the end of the day its all about trying to provide the AFL ressies sides in the comp decent competition, but there is no way in hell the local clubs can financially sustain the cost factor to be at this level.
