Well we did learn plenty of things tonight.
1. Simpkin never plays unless we have injuries.
2. Hartung & Woody are a long way off getting a regular game.
3. Grimley would be at home next to Kermit & Miss Piggy.
4. Frawley will know the road to Box Hill pretty early.

5. Sammy is all class.
6. Jed showed plenty.
7. Liked snippets of Miles,Howe & Sicily.
8. Thought Stratts could of dominated more.

It's a practice match,so no harm done.
Where was JOR? Hope not injured.

Man. Jed is a star that kid. That alone has me chuffed to bits for this match.

Couldn't really care about the result. Raw or not raw, its pre-season. Our objective is to blood players, test fitness, test where skills are at and then go back to the training field and tell players this is the standard you need to be at.

Don't worry. Once the League Proper rolls around, we'll be ready as ever.

Players of note:
Jed (drooling)
Langers (backed up from last year - esp his 2nd half)
Miles (looks pretty sharp for someone so green)

Disappointing performances:
Liquorland (his 1st half was v shaky - some v poor kicks, needs to lift if he wants that first team spot)
Grimmers (again, like Box Hill, I just don't see effort)
Spud (first game, but quite scrappy from him, will get better)
Billy/Woodie (both quieter than I would have liked)

some observations

- Anderson will surely be best 22 easily this year. Has the advantage of being in the system longer than some of the other fringe players and a higher ceiling. In fact the potential is scary. When considering how long he's been out he is very impressive.
- Big Boy is setting up to replace Hale, looks like this could happen during the year.
- The recent draft picks are (as many suspected) quite raw and not as polished as the guys taken by the teams with picks in the top 20. Nevertheless there are signs that there is a lot of talent that could be developed. I expect at least 1 of the guys taken 50+ will become another Breust/Hill. Obviously you know a few won't make it just no idea which is which.
- Game meant a lot more to Collingwood.
- Frawley had a shocker (as did a few others) but I don't think it really means anything except that a lot of fans of other clubs will get in a few cheap shots until he settles in.

Collingwood are still crud. Full team v full team we still win by anywhere between 5-8 goals.

But this hit out has been great for some of our kids. Collingwood pumping away on all cylinders and we are on neutral. Exactly what we need with no injuries.

Were you pumping away on all cylinders when you massacred all of your opposition in the NAB cup last year? It didn't seem to harm you.:)

Quick thoughts...

So disappointed for Brand. Was one guy I was looking forward to watching and didn't last 4 minutes. Hopefully it's only minor.

Anderson will play round 1, injuries permitting.

Hartung need to know his limits. Made a lot of mistakes trying to outrun people whilst standing still.

McEvoy looks good, slightly leaner but moving well and still very strong with his body work.

Our back six in the last quarter was very interesting... Frawley there with Doc, Willsmore, Miles, Howe and Pittonet at one time. Not a great deal of experience there.

Grimley is not even close. Dropped marks, stumbled and was out muscled.

Lots of poor kicking and just silly kick and hopes from our first year players.

Good crowd. Ground looks in good nick.

Frawley was poor, looked lost at times and just failed to work his way into the game.

Breust seemed to want to take everyone on, I suspect it was an instruction.

Ceglar did alright, some good work around the ground.

Mitch is a gun.

Litherland worries me. Just always that second slow with his decision or that one small fumble.

Yeah his performance was the most annoying thing to me. After Jed, I really thought Lithers would be the next likely candidate to step into the team. Last season, his ability to stay on his feet, 2nd/3rd efforts, yard of pace and raking kick were all big boons.

This match his radar was really off. Just hoping this is him blowing out all the cobwebs. It's a big year for him, 5th season at the club, he really needs a big break through this year.

Might be like comparing chalk and cheese but Buddy had a tough start at $ydney and took some weeks to find his feet. Hopefully same goes for Frawley. Not that Frawley is anywhere near star status but he will get better. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Even played three rucks like box hill

North will take us apart toog

Liked one decision on the back flank. Not 15, play on

Players take a step back and the reciever kicks it back to the first guy. Mark

He wont always have an opponent which is a clear match up. May miss games on team balance

I couldn't give a rats about the poor performance of the new kids. What really stood out for me was the poor effort of the two who had a taste last year and were the designated replacements for any of our injured midfield/runners. Woody and Hartung showed nothing and that to me is a worry. These are the blokes we hope to carry the midfield in future. Hope it's just early season jitters or we might be asking why we dumped Hallahan.

A win against the Hawks is good for us but meaningless. Wouldn't be in the least bit worried if I was Hawthorn. You had a couple who look very handy, Anderson looks star material. How good is Sam Mitchell? Pies happy cause some kids showed a bit but realistically a lot of them like Gault, Ramsay etc are still VFL players who are a long way off the 22 so were going hell for leather tonight whereas your guys were just going through the motions.

We just want some kids to come on for now and Fasolo and Karnezis types to show us they are over injuries and can continue their development. You are our bogey team and we are miles off you so I wouldn't worry. Would be happy to be competitive against you when the real stuff starts

Good luck for 2015 and Mitchell, what can you say. He should have that Norm Smith around his neck. Was the clear architect of your flag performance last year. Love watching him play.

I agree...hartung burning up the track was the mocker! him and woodward didn't take their chance at all but hopefully next time around! frawley was hilarious...hope we haven't got the Jonathon hay deal (hay was al all Australian before we off loaded him to the roos where he was average at best). Sammy and langers were awesome...thought hardisty showed a lot for a rookie
