GFL Season 2016

Pardon my ignorance but wouldnt GWSP have to pay all these interstate guys quite abit and they would also I assume have to get them jobs and somewhere to live, is that how it will work? Huge investment to top up the list to make them competitive, not sure I agree with their strategy but I wish them well.

Every club uses this strategy. It's been a strategy of country football for a long time now.

I'm pretty sure that the players who left at the end of last season would have been on a lot more $ than the ones who have come in. So in truth they have cut back their spending on players in all likelihood.

Urgot, Urgot, Urgot. You are an idiot. Everyone in Victoria, not just Geelong, knows there is a very big problem with payments made to local footballers. Everyone in this area uses Geelong Amatuer as an example because it's true. They get no supporters at their games, just a few chardonnay drinkers upstairs, they use their Juniors as pawns to make finals, then drop them when the college boys are available, have rich sponsors, a shit oval, no suburban representation (they are a golf course and an ordinary footy ground, and you have to cross an 19th century bridge just to get in), the worst jumper in the league (what's the horse with wing's thing??). All they have is money. And they want to play GFL, they'll get smashed.
Is it actually a problem footyman? Is it not fantastic that the Football Geelong leagues are among the best in the state and have the financial capacity to attract Victoria's best country footballers? Or would you prefer all clubs to be weaker to ensure a more even competition? It might be a problem for your club Portarlington because you're going through a re-building stage but don't cut down strong clubs who've worked hard for their success and off-field security. These clubs should be role models for clubs like yours to build a strong junior base and gradually change the losing the culture.

Who are these strong clubs?

One would hope you'd not name any of the ones being bankrolled by wealthy patrons.

Well Falsenine, the GFL is highly ranked, ie number 1 in country footy. The BFL, however, which Ammos play in is ranked about 14 to 15? How can you or anyone else justify the money spent on a team that plays in a league that lowly ranked? Now I hear that they have recruited some players from the NTFL, at I assume big big dollars, where does it end? By the way, know all, clubs like Portarlington Anglesea, Modewarre etc. don't have a losing culture, that's a complete insult to these hard working clubs. They just don't have the funds, how hard is that to understand?

Also Falsenose, your club St Fairys, they'd be the most underachieving GFL club of all wouldn't they? Mr."Losing Culture", oh yeah, and when you lose your ground to Geelong Cats, a matter of when, not if, where are you going to go then? Maybe you can merge with Ammos?

They stated on Football Barwon website they were recruiting NTFL players. So the websites wrong, not me, and you believe what Ammos say categorically????, where's your source?? And if you read my statement I had a go at St Marys also. Read what I have said Mr King Cat, I'm totally against the money spent in all local footy, it's just that Ammos are a club that don't represent an area, a suburb, a town, a locality, have no supporters, just MONEY, nothing else. If you can argue with that then good on you, go to one of their games and see for yourself, Mr Open minded, vastly informed, highly intelligent and eyes opened person, you are a hero. Torquay and Barwon Heads represent a community, Ammos are just Ammos, who are they anyway??

Why? They create an environment and culture where wealthy sponsors want to be involved. The sponsors would get networking anc branding opportunities as well as putting there hard earned cash to something they are passionate about. The GFL this year looks as even as its ever been so i dont see anything wrong with the way its operating, as one team increases there profesionalism the others lift it to allow them to compete. Why should the strong clubs be held back just so the strugglers dont feel left behind.

Which is why promotion/Relegation is essential Ammos have probably outgrown the BFL and are in a position on and off the field to be a competetive GFL club so why not give them a chance.

Probably because if you keep paying high profile players to come in from outside of the district more and more young local players will not get the opportunity to play. This is what this stupid money spending spree will do, lose young players to the game.

That's it.. no more talk about money.. we get the picture and keep the Ammos talk to the BFL forum please.
So any more results from today???

Greenvale beat South Barwon.

Joeys??
StMarys lost by 2 goals to Sandhurst
Grovedale??
Colac smashed Ballarat by 80 points

Two premierships in the past 10 years, second only to South Barwon so wouldn't have thought that was a great argument!

They're a football & netball club based in Queens Park and they won more games last year (16) than Portarlington has won in the past 6 years (11). That's what I was alluding to when I was talking about the losing culture. Cheers!

Please just ignore him falsenine and hopefully he'll go away...Good to see some more results coming through.

Good to see there's some other sensible blokes on here. This forum isn't about talking up your own team or rubbishing other clubs, but I can't tolerate these keyboard warriors like footyman who continually make disparaging comments about rival clubs.

Anyway let's get back to the footy chat for which this forum was intended...

who else played good?
Snowdon has returned from overseas and slotted back in well. Garner looks to be a good addition to the midfield and has dominated the clearances the past two weeks. Travaglini and Bond were the most impressive of the young players. They play Aberfeldie at home in their final hit-out this Saturday.
