Has it been mentioned that no Premiership team has ever taken the field together again?
I was literally about to post that a couple of hours ago! Coincidence? Though it's not that surprising when you think about it; every premiership team has at least one retirement or trade.

In 2004, Hawthorn finished 15th. In 2013, Bulldogs finished 15th.
In 2005, Hawthorn finished 14th. In 2014, Bulldogs finished 14th.
In 2006, Hawthorn finished 11th. In 2015, Bulldogs will finish 11th.
In 2007, Hawthorn made a Semi. In 2016, Bulldogs will make a Semi.
In 2008, Hawthorn were premiers. In 2017, Bulldogs will be premiers.

Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but if we finish 11th this year, I just may be on to something. ;)

In September 1997, Pat Rafter won the US Open, Robert Harvey won the Brownlow, Adelaide won the Premiership & Andrew MacLeod won the NS Medal.
In September 1998, Pat Rafter won the US Open, Robert Harvey won the Brownlow, Adelaide won the Premiership & Andrew MacLeod won the NS Medal.
From memory the Adelaide 36ers won the NBL too.

Better start sending some of your players in for surgery now then just to guarantee it :p

I thought this was worth the bump
Clarkos first win as coach, hawthorn score 18.7.115
Clarks first premiership, hawthorn score 18.7.115

x-files should look into that one

Reckon Essendon in 1985 came close - the Victorian 150th match (moved from Round 3 to March 23) saw 19 of the 20 selected the previous September run out against Hawthorn: Neagle, Baker, Daniher, Dunell, Heard, Foulds, Williams, Ezard, Van Der Haar, Duckworth, Merrett, Thompson, Madden, Weston, Walsh, Watson, Hawker, Bradbury and Harvey were all selected...Wood, Carey and Elshaug also selected that day, made that year's premiership side.

Very close. For mine it's 18 out of the 20 players....

In (for the 85 match): Elshaug, Wood
Out: Clarke, Heard.

What a side the Dons of the mid-80s were.

There was a thread on the North board about this, but it doesn't look like anyone has mentioned it in this thread:

1977 - Star Wars trilogy begins - North Melbourne wins the flag
1999 - Second Star Wars trilogy begins - North Melbourne wins the flag
2015 - Third Star Wars trilogy begins - ...?

It took me quite a while to go through the stats to find something but this is the best I could come up with. (its pretty good)

In recent history (1950s onwards), Consider every time Richmond has played Hawthorn in the second half of a 22 game season.

2013 - R19 Won. Hawthorn won flag.
2009 - R21 Lost. Hawthorn didn't win flag.
2008 - R20 Won. Hawthorn won flag.

There are quite a few other ones beyond the 90s but who can be bothered these days

Also, can someone please pm me once this post gets to 100 likes? cheers mate.

2015 is the 48th consecutive season that Essendon has NOT started 0-3, meaning that Essendon has recorded at least two premiership points during the first three rounds of each of the last 48 seasons.

The last time Essendon started 0-3 was 1967

The chances of this happening (assuming all matches are 50-50) is approximately 1 in 600.
So you're saying this isn't evidence that Essendon is a good team, but just a coincidence?

WCE vs SS 2005 QF = West Coast 69 def Sydney 65. margin is 4 points
WCE vs SS 2005 GF = Sydney 58 def West Coast 54. margin is 4 points
WCE vs SS 2006 QF = Sydney 85 def West Coast 84. margin 1 point
WCE vs SS 2006 GF = West Coast 85 def Sydney 84. margin 1 point.

There are better, number based coincidences, but this is pretty cool. Also has any two teams played each other twice in a finals series in two consecutive years with the current format? Probably but quite rare I would imagine.
