I don't know about that hasn't totally ruled it out.

He left Essendon because the top job wasn't available and any other role wasn't enough for him. How is that not a signal that he won't coach a VFL side?

I agree i think we are probably going to look more likely with the new brigade of talent in Daniher, Z.Merrett, Gleeson, Laverde, Langford potentially a few others with guys like Myers, Heppell, Hurley, Colyer, Carlisle, Zacka, Hibbo, Baguley as those 27-29 year olds still playing good footy.

No doubt the club thought we could potentially pull off a fairy tale season this year or next. Hirdy recruited for it and Goddard was saying it and i think after finishing around the 5th-6th mark the past couple years they had every right to think so if all things went right. Unfortunately they didnt and now i think they are realising they dont have the right mix or right players to go the whole way.

I think clubs can turn it around pretty quickly though now as seen by saints, eagles, dogs this year and Port ect not too long ago.

Some of those real top teams (Freo, Hawks, Syd) just seem to be too good for us and the comp to push past and GWS are coming quick.

Hmmm if he were to come back I wouldn't mind him coaching the VFL side.I wouldn't mind Mark Harvey he's tactically more sound then Hirdy imo.

:drunk: I've got a better idea:drunk:

How about Hirdy & Bomber coach against each other like in the schoolyard?

We could have a draft process. Flip of the coin gets 1st choice of player, then you take turns selecting players until every player on the list is gone. Then it's winner stays on, if you lose a round of AFL football, the coach and his team (that he drafted) get relegated to the VFL, then the other coach and his team jump into the AFL until they lose.

Perfect.

Considering Bomber's (what i inferred to be) smugness at the BnF last year and the way everything has panned out I don't think he'll ever be back at Essendon.

He refused to come to the 30 year reunion. Love or hate him, It's pretty clear he is bitter.

I'd put the recruitment of Goddard to one side for a few reasons.

He easily had 100 games in him when we recruited him with 2-3 seasons at or near the peak of his powers.

If you can sign a Brendan Goddard at 27 as a free agent you do that every year you can fit it into the salary cap, especially when your team lacks quality.

Cooney and Chapman are different though Chapman has been more durable than expected. Cooney is a shadow of his former self. Bringing in Gwilt to joing Steinberg and Pears as specialty Fletcher replacements to help him get through the season is all about giving the 2012 players a shot at success.

I think you misunderstood me in regard to Goddard. I heard him say something along the lines of 'they should make a documentary or write a book if we win he flag this year' or something very similar, maybe im just making things up in my head. So it was obvious to me what they really thought they could do this year and that combined with Hirds off season thinking with recruiting also backed up that sentiment.

Hes been a great pickup for us and continues to deliver.

Lazy reading on my part.

Didn't Cooney play some seriously good football a few weeks back? Weren't we all happy about his recruitment? I seem to have missed a memo

Speak for yourself.
You were honestly still not in favor of him after round one?
The only thing that ever bothered me about recruiting Cooney was the possibility of him holding a place in the team without doing enough to deserve it. From what we have seen so far he will totally deserve to be in the side whenever he is fit. When he is not fit you get your wish and have a spot for the next gen. If Cooney and Chappy are fit come September it will be massive for the club.

Bomber doesn't want to coach an AFL side, let alone a VFL side.

Strong rumour circulating up this way that he will be announced as MM replacement n the next few days. Absolutely a rumour, but came from 2 different Carlscum supporters up here.
Would be keen to hear if anyone has heard anything in Melb.

Phwaor! Good rumour. First I've heard of it. Where is "up here" exactly?

Also it kind of reeks of desperation from Carlton fans.

I'll be happy with him when he gets through a season adding some run and class to our midfield and forward line.

North Coast NSW. Like I said, only rumour, but they seemed very confident. (and desperate)

I would not be happy unless he was doing it just so he was in prime position to **** them over harder than Mick is now.
