There is a rumour that Pakistan might invited Ireland and/or Zimbabwe to play a few ODIs in Pakistan later this year

Kenya is one thing. But surely there are security concerns from Western countries about touring the region.

Ireland and England are playing at Malahide on Friday. Although England have sent a team that is so obviously not a first XI as to make the situation difficult for Ireland. The latter win, and it'll be claimed that was to be expected; they lose, and people will question how they couldn't even beat a second XI.
The ICC has also finally released the fixtures for the first round of the Intercontintenal Cup/WCL Div 1, which will happen in early June.

It is only a 6 day(?) turnaround for the test players, and most ODI teams are weak immediately after a WC...

I don't think there are any players from the Barbados test in the squad.

Namibia and Hong Kong slipped past everyone's attention to play the first match of the Intercontinental Cup a few weeks back. Namibia won by 113 runs, which isn't that surprising given HK's lack of first class experience.
Two matches are starting today. Ireland hosts the Emirates in Malahide, while Scotland is playing their first match at their new home, Stirling, against Afghanistan.

Ireland Afghanistan will most likely be a 3 day game as heavy rain is forecast all day in Dublin. It's been a dismal summer at home so far weather wise.
We're at full strength with Murtagh back but nobody has really been tearing up trees in the CC as yet. Stirling did have a brilliant weekend in the T20 for Middlesex with 88 and 90 and he bowled well in both games so hopefully he can carry that form into this week.

Looking forward to keeping track of the games this week. Hope the weather forecast can improve in Dublin as the week progresses.

Cricinfo commentary mentioned the winner of this series would have the chance to play off with the 10th ranked test nation for the chance to get test status. First I've heard of this.

It was decided a while ago as part of the big three offer.
I do wonder how will it actually work though.
I'd going to assume it would be Zimbabwe vs Ireland.
Is the Zimbabwe vs Ireland match a test match?
Does Ireland gain full test status with tours against other test teams if they beat Zimbabwe?
Does Zimbabwe lose test status if they lose to Ireland?

Only assuming but
- Ireland v Zimbabwe would surely be a first class game. Ireland haven't been given test status yet
- Ireland should be able to tour against other teams. It would be hard to convince some of them though
- No I would doubt Zimbabwe lose test status
Either way a one-off test to decide whether a country is good enough for test status is shit. It's a big decision that shouldn't rest on the result of a one off game.
Like I said earlier the ICC should introduce temporary test status for 2-3 years for countries that are borderline. Reassess with six months to go in that period whether to extend the temporary status, grant full status or push them back to non test status. The assessment should be based on with a set metric to see some sort of decent results and an improvement in the countries FC competition and ability to continue to nurture test cricketers.

As far as I'm aware, it will be 'Test' series - four matches IIRC - of five day matches, but I don't think they're given Test status.
If the Associate wins, they become a Test team, but the losing full member nation doesn't lose the status. The latter was the main sticking point for Bangladesh in getting them to vote for the big three.

End of the first day.
No play in Scotland thanks to inclement weather.
Ireland absolutely blitzed the UAE, ending the day on 3/420 despite also having rain delays. The vast majority of those runs were from Paul Stirling (146) and Ed Joyce, who remains not out on 229.

The only predictable thing about the Irish weather is its unpredictability.
