Essendon changed because black tops became available and Hawthorn changed because they merged with Boorondara
General consensus from Port fans is that they are happy with the BIB or back in Black colours but would wish to occasionally wear the prison bars on big anniversaries of the club or every heritage round ( I would guess once every year or two)

General consensus from Collingwood and neutral fans seems to be the same

I'll put my 2 cents in again to attempt to keep the discussion on track -

I love our jumper now. If we wanted to change it back to the prison bars and genuinely had the chance to, it would have been done in 2010. That was the year our brand really announced itself as 'Port Adelaide' rather than 'Power' of the previous years which was used as an attempt to de-Port the whole club because of some perceived stigma which was also somehow holding us back. Couldn't have been more wrong, however.

Another jumper change would just been silly and completely sidetrack the incredible work we've done with our brand. Teal is Port. We're already in a majority black jumper which is could enough for me, and it's a traditional look which incorporates our AFL colours.

We already have the best jumper design, we are just not allowed to wear it.

Yep our heritage means nothing once you get east of Nhill. National league, yeh right.

As I said earlier 2010 was a shocking year for our club on all levels and if we adopted the PB's then everybody would have associated the failure of the club with them.

BiB isn't associated with failure.

I mean, by this logic, if we adopted the bars now and fell down the ladder again, would we have to revert in order to preserve the winningness of the jumper?

True, I think the perfect time to adopt a new guernsey is when club is on an upward trajectory. Once Port wins a premiership in the Bib there will be no going back.

More like when we win a final :p

Still haven't won one in the home BiB.
If we had permission from the AFL to change would you consult all members or just change it?

Also I think the strengthening of our branding is directly associated with embracing Port Adelaide's history more. It's getting to the point that more people at home games are wearing PB guerseys and PA monograms than our Bib and Fist emblem. It might be selective vision but it does seem to have increased 10 fold.

Both times we have worn the PB's in the last two years we have had crowds of over 45,000.

If the board thought it was a good idea to sway from the incredibly powerful brand they've built in the last 6 years, it would have to be a consultation. And it probably wouldn't pass.

Incredibly powerful brand? Adelaide Oval and the name Port Adelaide is our brand. Our guernsey looks the same as Fremantle's except that Fremantle's resembles the old Fremantle guernsey. Our logo looks like someone masturbating with text that would aptly say PENIS on the top. Our logo would be perfect for a Viagra brand. I honestly cannot say our branding, apart from being called Port Adelaide and playing at Adelaide Oval and Alberton, is better than anyone except maybe GWS and Gold Coast at the moment.

From a neutral no one would guess our club is 145 years old by looking at our logo.

Our guernsey is good, if it was the guernsey we wore in the SANFL it would probably be considered higher than the PB's, but it wasn't and doesn't appear in all our old photos.

Power is also a fine moniker but it doesn't have to be explicit on our Logo. Being known as the Power without having Power on our logo would be kinda cool.

I am now wondering now whether its the club's decision, Collingwood's decisions or the TV broadcasters decision.

I still don't see an issue with us wearing the PB at home against Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and Melbourne each year and let them wear their home strip with white shorts.

Wear the BiB in home games against the other 13 clubs.

While our logo is a bit odd, at least it features the Prison Bars :)

Diluting the strong on field brand m8

I just cant accept that, every time I see us run out in the PB I feel 10 foot tall.
For that Richmond final, please tell me how that has affected our brand.

You say diluting, I say broadening, and reengaging those that were born and bred on the PB's.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Yeah but that was a one-off Dylan was saying about having it in more than 1 game per year.

I do.

Wear your BiB, for goodness sake.

That is the Carlton away strip which clashes more than the home strip. The Sturt clash strip was an actual clash strip. I think if we did get the PB's Port would wear white shorts/socks while Carlton its home kit and the clash would be gone.

The re-engaging with the core fanbase has already happened. Those who still put more stock into a moniker and a jumper to decide which team is the 'real Port' (lol) are never getting on board. There's more to lose than to win by pushing for a permanent change.
I'm not talking about attracting the 5 nut jobs magpie forever fans. I'm more talking about having an appealing brand interstate and overseas.

I disagree with you on the point of Port Adelaide currently having a more attractive brand than other AFL clubs in regards to Logo and Guernsey. Our guernsey is good by design but has no history whilst our logo, as I mentioned earlier, is more suited to a box of viagra than a 145 year old football club.

I don't think there is anything to lose considering the turn out and excitement when we wear the PB's.

Fremantle's nailed their rebrand and it has only had positive effects. A neutral observer would think the Dockers were formed in 1870 and us in 1995.

If the PB's became our guernsey again we would wear them at all home games except against Collingwood. It is up to the opposition clubs to create adequate clash strips.

If the PB became our guernsey again, we'd wear it for all home games including Collingwood. If we're making it our home guernsey, they can avoid the clash when they play away
