Hird gone - Egan interim coach, Little gone after WADA appeal. TROLLS WILL BE CARDED

The reality is that I had fallen out of love with Hird based on his handling of the list (and it started during the trade period last year). I've heard a lot of talk of player unrest and I have to say that it doesn't surprise me as much as it doesn't surprise me to hear that the senior player have stood by him, but therein lies the problem.

I don't see this as an inevitable consequence of keeping Hird on as coach post 2013, his position was nothing close to untenable until team selection become a joke a few months into this season. This whole sorry state of affairs really speaks to a continued failure on the part of the football department to develop a program that is greater than the sum of its parts (despite continuing to invent pointless roles for highly paid senior members of the department) more than anything.

There is a lot of talk about needing to 'move on' but it is simplistic drivel that vindicates the media obsession and draws on WADA fatigue as being the reason that the club needed to make a change when, as far as I'm concerned, and all of the anecdotal evidence suggests that the problems were purely football related.

By the time Hird had to 'move on', it wasn't because he is a link to scandal or anything of the sort, it's that he was a link to what now has to be accepted as a failed group of senior players and serious damage to a list that had been built almost flawlessly until 2012 (and frankly the work or Dodoro and his recruiters in the last few years has been exceptional in about the worst possible circumstances).

Essendon does not have until the end of 2016 to tread water. There are 25+ games between now and that point that need to be used to develop the contemporary AFL talents on the list and to, as best as we can, shape the list in the coming off season. I have seen almost nothing from Hird in 2015 that suggests that he is the right person for that job and, on that basi, he had to go.

This guy is not happy
Was that after Hirdy called him soft?

Does this alter in any way the chances of Carlisle leaving the club?

Move on from what?

If he comes on, he brings drama with the media.
Unneeded unrest, if we have learned anything from the saga, it's "don't get the media offside".

I love Hirdy, always will but I think this was the right move...in part. Little and the board need to go. The players need to be free to stay or go as they please - if Carlisle wants to be traded then see you later mate and let's get some kids in return.

I understand we can't move on until WADA loses at the CAS but by starting now, we can possibly speed up the process.

Thank you James for all the great times you have given me as an EFC supporter - spend time with your beautiful wife and kids now and try and move on to bigger and better things. True EFC people will always love you

Whoever comes back in, will either need tell him to suck it up, or suck it up for him.

Club can GAGF campaigners. ******* disgraceful

Hird has ro come out and tell hia side of the story. Do it now, derail the finals, **** the AFL and the rest of these campaigners

Hahaha, the week that the Hawks make the Grand Final.
Hirdy is like "Yeah, I am willing to tell my story, but only this week".

I guess another thing is how we coordinate a send off for Hirdy?
A lap of honour at the Richmond (home game) or Collingwood game (away game) wouldn't be enough

There will be no such thing. You'll likely not see him again for a while, gutter journalism aside.
Pretty sad isn't it.
Maybe when the dust settles we could have something at the first home game of 2016

Unnecessary. It'd just drag discussion back to this saga when we could be moving on.

Hird's being paid out up to $1.5 million. Unlike what's being spun, he was pushed out and left with little option. Someone who 'walks' from a contract doesn't get a pay-out to their full salary.
Indeed - it'd be like going to your employer and saying 'I'm choosing not to work for the remainder of this year, and all of next year, and I expect you to pay me my full salary for that time anyway'. Good luck with that approach ...

I don't think too many fall for the 'resignation' line these days, but clubs have to trot it out publicly so as to play the game, the same way they make public announcements about being fully behind a coach, while calculating payout figures and drawing up shortlists of replacements.

We're so used to it now we just expect clubs to feed us BS, and when they do, we shrug and say 'meh', and move on.
