2 out of how many?

Yes, but how many top 5 midfielders have been available in the PSD before?

I'd also argue that players don't really nominate themselves for the PSD unless they are pretty sure that it will result in them getting to the team they want (or they don't care where they end up). So that's probably why you haven't seen that happen much before.

How often has a top 5 midfielder gone into the PSD though?

Personally I'd be happy as a bottom 8 club to pick him up and, if I can't convince him to stay, trade him on the next year. He'll improve the side while he's in it, chances are the bottom 8 club is sitting well below the salary cap anyway (so his salary isn't an issue) and I can trade him for a decent return the following year.

It would be absolute stupidity for a club not to take danger in the PSD if they can afford it.

He will play his guts out - he knows no other way - and then when it comes time to trade him at the end of his first year, you can get a shit load for him in ANY trade.

BTW I think any talk of us trading a first round pick and a good player for Danger isn't going to happen. I would think something more along the lines of Cockatoo (or Motlop) plus a second round pick (albeit in a shallow draft) would be more realistic.

Nah Danger is a league top 5 player, absolute marquis player and a huge off field commodity to boot. 2 first rounders or equal weight in players any day of the week.

This whole matching debate is very interesting. If the club does have a policy of matching for Danger, then they would have most likely informed his management of that fact.

I seriously doubt the Crows would have told his management that. They wouldn't be telling them anything at all. If he won't tell the club what he wants to do, why would they give them that kind of info? They'd go straight to Geelong and tell them and they'd structure their offer around that to try and put him out of range of our ability to match.

If the Crows management are smart (and I have to think / hope they are in this case) then they would be playing their own cards just as close to their chest as Danger is himself. They'd discuss terms of a contract extension with him if he wants to discuss that. Anything else is, frankly, none of Danger's or his manager's business. If he decides he wants to go, fine, but in that case the Crows management will do what they feel is best for the club, not what's best for Danger or Geelong.

Absolutely. Especially this year - 2nd round pick is worthless if the draft is as bad as they say. 1st round pick and a quality player, or 2 first round picks would be the going rate, surely? And the ability to trade future draft picks will make it easier to get that kind of deal across the line than it might have been in previous years.

So I guess the one thing the AFL could do would be to make some over-the-top out-of-the-blue decision regarding compensation for Dangerfield.

They give us 2 first round picks compo and we would be very hard pressed not to take it. Hell, having 3 picks in the top 20 gives you so much trading power it would be impossible to ignore.

You do now, you are not putting yourself in a better position if you go from eating cat poo to eating dog poo. At the end of the day, you are still eating poo.

Now, right now - if they make the choice not to match, we are in no better postion than before and if you can not see that - you will believe anything they tell you?

Sp, basically cosmetic stuff?

Lets see them match before telling me I'm a shit supporter for not believing the hype.

Footy is about having a successful on field stuff.

No one gives 2 shits if you have an awesome off field club (see Collingwood as how annoyed at missing finals) if your on field stuff isn't working.

Keeping Dangerfield or getting the best deal we can, goes along way towards making that on field stuff successful. That will then show they can produce positive on field results and demonstrating they want sucess. I will be happy with them keeping him, matching and then getting the best deal for the club.

If you can not start understanding my point, I don't see any reason to respond.
Agree with you mate..... Personally I'm much more optimistic than ever, however I want to see it and by playing hardball here we can!
