Exactly and that is why we can mark Freeman down as a Sainter next year. Need Carlisle to say the same.

You've seen Freeman live plenty of times plugger, how would you compare him to other Sandy juniors and what current player would you say he plays like?

Well they all say Gaff so I will go with that. Don't think he is anything like Dangerfield as Maxwell said but I'm sure that was to pump up his value. I went to Sandy a lot that year and He IMO had Kelly and Salem covered when he was at his best. Obviously the recruiters have me covered and they didn't see that but I think it was his foot skills that maybe made him go fractionally later. You would think 2 years at a club like the pies would have had plenty of skills training so hopefully that isn't an issue. I never really noticed it myself but I was looking for that.

The point is if and yes its big if he gets fully fit we get a player with 2 years in the AFL system that went at pick 10 for maybe a pick 27. Its a huge win for us if he gats the hammies right. Huge.

And Dingley isn't to far from Seaford or Moorabbin

"A midfielder who will become a makeshift forward or defender when his coach needs to plug a hole. Is an outstanding mark for his size and very athletic" is how he was described in his draft year, and that's about right. Iffy kick.

Think a better Shenton, with dumber hair.

188 and 88kg's - good size for a midfielder - has that great thing called - potential - according to the Port website his kicking is improving.

"Turned himself into somewhat of a super sub for the Power last season, starting in the green vest on eight occasions. But whether he is affecting games late or playing throughout a contest, Young shows good poise when in possession and makes good decisions. He is courageous in the way he attacks the contest and the improvement in his kicking is obvious – he finds teammates and kicks goals."

Gaff? The media seem to compare him more to Luke Shuey. From what you saw of him was he more an outside or inside mid?

Yep I think he ideal for what we need. More outside but gets his own ball as well. Similar to Billings but fractionally more inside than him and more of a pure mid.

Gaff is a funny comparison. Outside ball magnet, with a neat kick who lacks explosive power and speed but makes up for it with an enormous tank.

Freeman seems like the anti-Gaff to me...?

Well I was going by what the media said and I seem to have got his name wrong as I should have said Shuey but I don't think Freeman plays like him either. Shuey seems to me to be really inside and I wouldn't say freeman is that. He has great speed from a contest and when he gets the ball can breakaway with it. Thinking about it he maybe more like Steven than anyone else in our side. It was 3 years ago and I was looking at another plyer who I was god father and I'm certainly no expert.

The guys on grandstand were saying they believed a pick 7 to 10 was about right. I've always said he's about 8-10. 15 would be ideal for you but is unders in my opinion.

Sounds right...

Like freeman for hurley sounds right.
then you could get next year's 1st rd pick from the saints for Freeman.

Yep lock em in

Seriously embarrassed for the Essendon mates i have when so many Essendon muppets keep pedaling this crap

If he is so fantastic why dont you try to keep him?

Jeseus couldn't eve get into your top ten B&F in a putrid year.

All hype.

Freeman plays that explosive midfielder role like danger and shuey. He could be anything or he could be out of the system after his contract with us. Low risk high reward from our point of view.

Re Acres and McKenzie, the club was stoked with both picks and they were taken with the long view in mind not short. I expect Acres to be a big improver next year and he already started to lead from the front in the vfl this year. If the club could redo that draft they wouldn't change there picks trust me on this

81kg, not 88kg, but "improvement in kicking" still says iffy by foot to me.

One thing the Friday night game told me, and we probably saw in 09/10. If you miss your targets in those huge games against elite opposition you will get scored against.

Freo was just slightly less skilled than Hawthorn in that game and that was all the difference between a chance at a flag and a failed year.

We have plenty of butchers, dowe really need another?

A lot of explosive players aren't great kicks because they are going a million miles an hour. I would never say Judd was elite kick, Steven isn't elite and even Dangerfield isn't a fantastic kick. I think with explosive players the good, meaning speed to break away from players, out weighs the bad. If he was totally an outside runner like Billings but couldn't kick then it would be an issue. I think we could carry two Jack Steven types. We need to compliment then with some great skilled outside players. We have Billings but we need 2 or 3 others.

Sorry just realised you were talking about the Port player and I was going on about Freeman. Sorry for that.

Tbh I think Freo(and I hate Freo) where only guilty of missing crucial shots on goal(sounds familiar) the gameplan keeps them in the game but they don't convert. Thats the difference in ross being a current 3 x premiership coach and about to play for his fourth

Isn't it great we can all have a different view on a game?. Neither of our views are wrong IMO and there were elements of both.

Yes they were sloppy in front of goal, but I still feel the Hawks skill under extreme defensive pressure (Freo's strength) was incredible where Freo's were just that little bit less under Hawks pressure.

People do get Weller will be significantly cheaper next year. Why pay through the nose this year?

He'd be significantly cheaper if he starts getting game time and decides to stay. Or what if he plays games and looks like a superstar, you aren't getting him cheaper then.

If you get a chance to get a player you want, then you take it. You don't delay because you might get them cheaper later. Lots of things can change in a year.

Slightly less skilled. Did you watch the game?

Freo were a fair way off hawthorn. They've never been close to a flag. 2013 hawthorn controlled the game for 3 qtrs, bar one good quarter from freo. They're a poor mans st kilda circa 2010. The games moved past Ross, in 2013 his game plan/zone was destroyed by a short possession game, this year the same thing happened. You'd think after 2 years he'd adapt. Also he's not a modern day managerial coach that develops those around him. How many coaches has Clarkson developed now? How many younger players has he developed? Ross you'd be lucky to find one coach and 3-5 players. Clubs grab Ross Lyon types as assistants now
