How was he treated shabbily? What is the story there?

He was a talented cricketer and the club administration were inflexible and tried to prevent him playing cricket. He was a wonderful player and complimented Skilton in a team that otherwise struggled. South let him go and we lost a great player. As a club we have let go the following champions. Nash, Papley, the Danihers, Wayne Carey and John Longmire.

We can only hope that we've learnt from those past errors.

Any guesses on player numbers for next season?
Available: 11, 19, 30, 32, 33, 37, 45, 46.

Will have a guess that upgraded rookies Melican and O'Riordan keep their existing no's.

11 - Papley -- Looking back through this thread, will take a stab that he changes to the number worn by his grandfather at the club.

19 - Ling -- Few of his highlight reels games show have him wearing the 19.

30 - McCartin

32 - Stoddart -- (11 if Papley doesn't change no's as Stoddart wore this in some games last year)

33 - Styles

37 - Bell -- Indigenous lad gets Goodesy's number after 2 years unused.

41 - Amartey -- (33 if Papley stays with 41 and Stoddart gets 11)

45 - Brown.

It might get retired after Mills moves into the midfield and wins 3 brownlows.
Poor kid. So much pressure on him to succeed. I'll be happy with two brownlows, anything more is icing really... don't want to overburden him. :p

Late mail ... O'Riordan to change to no. 11 as a nod to Jim Stynes. Bell to get Jetta's old 32 if they don't "unretire" 37.

Wow some silly early calls on here lol. Paps in 11 as it should be, what a pity "wheels" never had a boy . But Plugger had 4 girls , so St Scum get none.
So pleased young Tom has accepted #11 as I watched his grandfather Max play from the bowling-green side of South Melbourne ground :) :) :)

Won't lie, I actually got a few goosebumps when I read about the number change today. I don't normally pay much attention to jumper numbers but I think it's great that he's chosen to recognise his family's (and the club's) history.

A complete stab in the dark at numbers that will be given to the new arrivals. Will assume Goodes' 37 stays unused and upgraded rookies The Ronke! and The Fox On The Run stay with their existing numbers:

2 - Thurlow
4 - Blakey
6 - Menzel
16 - Clarke
22 - Rowbottom
27 - Tucker
28 - Foot
31 - McInerney
41 - Reynolds
45 - Wicks

Damn I wanted Blakey to get 37. Still, 4 works I suppose.

Edit. Did not read properly and thought those were the official numbers.

Still want Blakey to get 37 as he seems like a worthy replacement for Goodes.
