TJ endured the most difficult year of his career in 2015. He battled for form throughout and was dropped and played for the Magpies for 5 straight weeks from rounds 15 through 19. He often looked slow and uncharacteristically fumbly for a player who has been so dependable for so many years now. He is one player who most definitely has a lot to prove heading into 2016.

Review by TeeKray
Jackson had another injury interrupted season in 2015 and as a result was never quite able to produce the sort of football that had previously seen him as a dominant presence in our back half. He underwent shoulder surgery in January and sat out all of the trial matches but returned in time to take his place for our round one game. He then hurt his ankle in round 8 against Richmond and missed several games mid season before a shoulder reconstruction saw his year over with in round 20. Jacko will be hoping for a better run with his body in 2016 as each of his previous three seasons has been marred by injury problems.

Youngy endured another frustrating year in 2015. He played 11 games, several as substitute, and was in and out of the team all season. He had 18 disposals and kicked the winning goal against North in round 3 and then backed it up with 25 disposals and a goal against Hawthorn a week later in one of the best games of his career. Unfortunately, he could not keep this form up and battled just to get a game at AFL level. There were reports that Youngy was shopped around during the trade period but he remains at Port for 2016. He is one player who will be happy to see the back of the substitute rule but now faces increasing competition for a spot in the team given the emergence of both Brendon Ah Chee and Sam Gray.

AFL Stats:
http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/K/Karl_Amon.html

Notes:
Karl took giant strides towards becoming a regular AFL player in 2015. Outside of a poor opening game, he improved his consistency at SANFL level, picked up more of the ball and improved his skill level under pressure. He was rewarded with his debut AFL game in Round 7 against Brisbane, where he picked up 9 disposals and a goal. He played 7 matches at AFL level throughout the season, being a vested player in 5 of them. His two full games were the most interesting of the year. He looked overawed by the occasion on a Thursday night against Collingwood, with some questioning his intensity at the contest. He came back in Round 22 and played a full game against Gold Coast, which was his break out game, picking up 16 touches and 3 great goals in the victory.

There is a lot to like about Karl. Quick, skilful, X factor, he just needs to make sure he continues to develop, doesn’t take the season for granted and he could become a consistent member of our first 22.

Notes:
After recovering from a knee reconstruction in 2014, Sam had a solid year in 2015, playing 6 games at AFL level and showing his typical consistency at SANFL level. He played 14 games at SANFL level, averaging 21 touches and 3 tackles a game with only the one poor game against Norwood early in the year letting him down. He was promoted to the AFL lineup against Geelong and played 6 of the next 8 matches. His best games came against Sydney and Carlton, before heading back to the SANFL for the finals. It’s still up in the air just what Sam’s best position is at AFL level, or if he even has one. 2016 will be an important year for Sam, as he hopes to become more of a regular performer at the highest level.

Notes:
Tom took another developmental step forward in 2015, playing 8 games at afl level and improving his consistency in the sanfl. He broke through md year to play 8 out of 10 games, covering for injuries to Carlile and Trengove. He predominantly played on the second or third tall and beat the likes of Jesse White, Patrick Ambrose, Stewart Crameri and Jeremy Howe during the year. Impressive with the ball, he became a safe user coming out of the backline, where his intercept marking and 3rd up spoiling was also a feature. Dropped after his best game at AFL level against the Dogs, he finished the year in the SANFL.

Tom will be 22 at the start of the year and looks physically and mentally ready to start playing regular AFL footy.

Kane’s 2015 was short and not so sweet. He played the first two games of the season before being rested in round three. He then played a further three games to take his career tally to 298 before announcing that the round 8 game against Richmond would be his 300th and last. We then lost to Brisbane and Richmond, ending a terrific career in a rather sombre manner. Kane has now begun a career as a fire fighter as well as part time coaching work at Glenelg. His contribution to Port Adelaide has been immense - 15 years, 300 games, 4 best and fairests, two All Australian guernseys and a premiership. Kane rightfully takes his place as a great of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

For a player who gave us all such high hopes in 2014, Jared’s year was nothing short of a disaster. He began experiencing foot pain early in the season and the decision was taken to manage him through games. Unfortunately, by round five it was decided that this strategy was not going to be effective and after a hot spot was identified on the notoriously troublesome navicular bone, he was placed indefinitely on the long term injury list where he stayed for the remainder of the season. We all have high hopes for Jared but his main priority for next year will simply be to stay clear of any further complications with his foot.

Jay’s 2015 was solid rather than spectacular. His goal tally was down to 44 and there were numerous games he struggled to have an impact on. However, he still finished second for goals at the club. His strongest patch of form was from rounds 3 to 5 when he kicked 4, 5 and 5 goals in successive weeks, all being important contributions to close fought wins. Jay’s year was also dogged by speculation that he was unhappy with Port’s offer of a contract extension and leaning towards signing with Fremantle. This speculation grew as the season went on and reached a crescendo when he spent a considerable amount of time thanking the crowd after our round 23 season ender. In the end, Schulzy did the right thing and signed a one year extension at Port. Jay will enter 2016 as perhaps the secondary tall target in our forward line following the recruitment of Charlie Dixon, something he will no doubt enjoy after so many years of close attention from the opposition.

Jarman’s second season at the club was every bit as solid as his first. He played 17 games and continues to show promise as a lock down small defender. He also provided glimpses of what may be to come in the future with his first half against Hawthorn in round 21 showing the damage his explosive speed and skill can do when set loose through the middle of the ground.

Arch began his fourth season at Port Adelaide without a senior game to his name and needing to make an impression just to retain his spot on the list at season’s end. And make an impression he did. Following some strong SANFL form, he was selected to make his AFL debut against North Melbourne in round 3. He started as substitute but had a late impact, setting up the winning goal with one of his trademark long range handballs. Arch played a further 10 games and began to really hit his straps late in the season, collecting 24 disposals, 3 goals and 3 Brownlow votes against GWS and 25 disposals and a goal against Hawthorn. His combination of a strong body, athletic prowess and a lightning handball makes Arch a unique weapon. A place in the best 22 is there for the taking if his development continues on this track.

Angus is a player who never really got going in 2015. He started the season under provisional suspension from the ASADA drugs investigation and always seemed to be chasing his tail from that point forward. He kicked just 23 goals from his 19 games, albeit seeming to play a more defensive role at times, often higher up the ground than he had previously been positioned at Port. Ultimately, he was dropped twice late in the season which was a fair reflection on his season as a whole. Complicating matters for Angus are the WADA appeal to the CAS still ongoing and the fact that he is entering the final year of his contract. A fit and firing Monfries is still an important part of our forward line but he will need to fight hard to cement his spot in the team throughout 2016.

Review by TeeKray
After two years in the football wilderness and a year spent earning his stripes at the Magpies, Krak's prodigal son story was completed in 2015. Starting on the rookie list, he impressed in the pre season trial matches and was quickly promoted from the rookie list to play his first AFL game for the club since 2010 in round 3. He played 7 games before being returned to the rookie list, most likely for list management purposes. He was immediately reinstated to the senior list as a mid season promotion and went on to play another 7 games for a return of 14 on the season, a great effort for a player who began the year on the rookie list and with questionable fitness levels. Krak’s accurate kicking and smooth movement off the half back line is a valuable commodity at AFL level and he is potentially an important player for us heading forward. His fitness remains something of an issue but he is working with the best in the business to improve that side of his game. He will again start the season on the rookie list in 2016, giving him a great incentive to work hard over the pre season to earn a promotion.

Broady endured a somewhat frustrating 2015. He started the season in indifferent form and was dropped following the round 7 loss to Brisbane, marking the first time he had lost his place in the AFL team for several years. His form gradually improved as the season went on, highlighted by a superb last quarter performance against Collingwood in which his intercept marking in the defensive 50 was pivotal to our close win. With competition for places in the back line expected to be fierce in 2016, Broady needs to continue to improve all aspects of his game, in particular his kicking, to ensure he is a part of the best 22 moving forward.

Alipate’s 2015 was hampered and then abbreviated by an ongoing hip injury. He played just 12 games, the last of which was in round 14, his lowest tally in a season since 2007. He did however manage to poll the first Brownlow votes of his career after an outstanding display against Hawthorn in which he kept Jarryd Roughead - his nemesis from the 2014 preliminary final - goalless to be a key player in our first win against the eventual premiers.

Paddy was our big name recruit for season 2015, coming to us from Essendon after several years under the cloud of an ASADA drugs investigation. As a result, he was unable to take part in the pre season trial matches and was only cleared from his provisional suspension a few days prior to our round one game against Fremantle, a game he ended up playing as sole ruck in despite a lack of preparation. Initially, the intention was to play Ryder as a forward, going into the ruck to relieve Lobbe when required. He was able to kick three goals in both Showdowns and turned in a memorable four goal haul to be influential in a win against his former team Essendon. However, it wasn’t until Lobbe was dropped and Ryder took up the number one ruck position that he was truly able to show us what he is capable of - a dominant display against the Hawks providing a tantalising glimpse of what we may have to look forward to. Unfortunately, Paddy’s future is still subject to a WADA appeal to the CAS, something that will hopefully be resolved in his favour sooner rather than later.

Westy had an interesting year. With the addition of Paddy Ryder, his time as both a forward and a relief ruckman became limited. As such, he became something of a roaming wingman. He struggled early in the year both in terms of finding the football and hitting the scoreboard, kicking only 5 goals in the first 8 games. But as the season went on, Westy gathered momentum. He was a key player in our win over Collingwood with an absolutely dominant first half and was best on ground against Fremantle in the final game of the season.

Review by TeeKray
Sam was the surprise packet of 2015. After playing a handful of AFL games off the rookie list in 2014 and making a minor impression as a small forward, he began 2015 again on the rookie list with low expectations and the consensus that he was a gun midfielder at SANFL level but not quite up to the grade at AFL level. He was again promoted to the senior list early in the season and played 4 games as a small forward without making too many waves before being dropped back to the Magpies for the middle part of the year. Nobody would have expected what happened when he returned to the AFL team in round 18. With the season over and a number of injuries to the midfield, Sam was given the chance to test his mettle in the middle of the park. He began putting together a solid portfolio of work before his form exploded over the final weeks of the season, averaging 35 disposals and collecting 5 Brownlow votes in the last three games. Sam’s reward is a spot on the senior list for 2016 and expectations of a much brighter future at AFL level than had been the case 12 months ago.

After a stunning first two seasons, Ollie’s dream run was somewhat interrupted in 2015. He started the season strongly, averaging 28 disposals and a goal across the first two games before injuring his wrist in an innocuous incident against North Melbourne, costing him a month of football. Ollie returned to the side and quickly picked up where he had left off as our number one big bodied inside midfielder. He brutalised the Bulldogs midfield in round 10 and played an inspired game against Collingwood in round 15, visibly emotional post game after the passing of his former mentor Phil Walsh. He received the three Brownlow votes in both games. Unfortunately for Ollie, his season came to a premature end in round 18 when he dislocated his shoulder early in the game against St Kilda, requiring a full reconstruction.

Hamish had an up and down 2015. He was often serviceable in his role across half back and pushing up to the wing but seemed to be less damaging, particularly with his kicking inside 50. His tally of 9 goals was well short of his 21 from 2014. He did however record a personal best for disposals in a season and played every game for the first time in his too often injury interrupted career. He saved his best football for late in the season with a near career best game in the wet against Gold Coast the clear highlight.

Ebo had a somewhat disappointing 2015 by his standards. Despite playing every game and averaging 23 disposals per game, his numbers were down on 2014 in most categories and his impact on games was often not at the level expected of a vice captain. Brad’s best games were early in the season - 34 disposals and a goal against Freo in round one, 22 disposals and 3 goals against North in round three and a dominant running display against Melbourne in Alice Springs. Ebo remains an important player but he will be looking to rebound strongly and produce his best football again in 2016.

Jack had a mixed year in 2015. He started the season in strong form and was being talked up as a potential All Australian by supporters and even some in the media. Unfortunately, his form was patchy mid season, ranging from the highs of blanketing Travis Cloke to the lows of being well beaten by Lachie Henderson. His form did improve with the team’s late in the season and, as a player of relative youth and inexperience, he will be hoping to continue his improvement into 2016.

Our captain had another good year in 2015, albeit not displaying quite the same level of consistency as he had in his 2013 and 2014 All Australian seasons. As always, the captain was often at his best in close games at precisely the moment the team needed a lift. He led a midfield inspired turn around after a slow start against Melbourne in Alice Springs, was one of few who could hold his head high in the embarrassing defeat to Carlton and was best on ground against Essendon in a late season shoot out. He also picked up 33 disposals and a goal in the first Showdown before backing up with 32 disposals and two goals in the second Showdown, once again proving his credentials as a big game player.

If Chad entered 2015 as an emerging star of the competition, he finished it as one of its fully fledged superstars. The statistics say it all. He booted a career high 53 goals. He kicked multiple goals in every game from round 8 to 22 inclusive. He kicked at least one goal in every game until round 23. He simply found a way to influence each and every game and became the outright most dangerous player in our forward line. As usual, he took marks, kicked goals from angles, was deadly from set shots and bobbed up in the midfield on occasion. Chad’s best games were numerous and frequent but probably highlighted by his 23 disposals and 3 goals which had a big say in separating what had been a close game against the Bulldogs in round 10, his 27 disposals and 4 goals a week later against Geelong and 20 disposals and 4 goals against Hawthorn in round 21 after nearly being knocked out when Luke Hodge jammed his head and neck between a goal post. His season was crowned with a second All Australian selection, a stunning achievement for a player having completed just his fourth year at AFL level.
