Here come the Murray Bombers! Plenty of talk about the leap that Tat will make if these guys play to their Reputations they could play finals as well.

What was the story with dan willis in 2015? Was he injured? Or played more vfl? Didn't seem to hear about him too much! Also heard he wasn't too liked at shepp Bears amongst the coaching and playing ranks

Sorry you missed the point GG . Spud gun was implying Tat are out spending heaps this year . Last year certainly was well below budget. This season won't be any greater than previous years.

Yes MIB, agree with you and Grasscat, it is interesting how Tatura have continued to achieve this as they are rarely down long, take a bad year, and then come back strong as contenders for a few years. Dare I say a long term sustainable plan.

The big bonus with this technique other then saving coin is being able to pump a season or 2 of games into young locals! The team obviously isn't complete in certain areas so the kids are being asked to play in more important positions. Eg midfield, full back! As a result their development as a footballer is often fast tracked!

Dan Willis from Shepparton FC announced he's moving to the Echuca FC. Believe their is also another to be announced today. A Grade type key forward is the word. ex AFL/VFL.......

Willis is confirmed but I haven't heard of any others...perhaps someone else can fill us in about their pickups. Hopefully the club can push for a finals position!

Found it; Welcome to Tim Allan & Daniel Willis joining best mates Jay Steet, Luke & Simon Buckley at @Echucafnc for 2016 #Murraybombers #GVFL

Height: 192cm Weight: 84kg

Date of Birth: 22/10/1990

Recruited From: Sandringham U18/Sandringham/Ormond/Port Melbourne

Background: Allan enters his third year at the club, having already established a reputation as a strong yet extremely skilful forward. He has the size to play either a key position or find the balance as a mid-sized forward. Either way, he is well-built and extremely hard to match up on.

Allan showed initial flashes of promise at senior and reserve grade level with VFL powerhouse Port Melbourne across 2011 and 2012. He kicked 17 goals in his six reserves games in 2012 and his move to Collingwood provided new coach Dale Tapping some valuable versatility in all areas of the ground.

In his junior days, Allan played for the Sandringham Dragons at TAC Cup level in 2008 before graduating to the club's VFL team the following year. He went on to make his name with VAFA club Ormond and was recommended by the VAFA to play in the now annual Young Guns match late in 2012.

Allan's first season at Collingwood in 2013 featured highlights at both ends of the ground, most notably his five goals against Coburg in round 10. He switched to defence at times later in the year where his one-on-one marking stood out against Werribee in the final round of the home and away season.

Allan added another 15 games in 2014, making him one of the more common VFL-listed players to take the field. He ranked fifth in the goal-kicking tally with 13 majors and proved a constant presence up forward.

Dale Tapping Says: Tim’s been a really good player for us over the past couple of years and contributes at both ends of the ground. We feel like this year he’s matured more as he’s got a better understanding of what’s required at this level. He’s taken on more of a leadership role this year which will be good.

Good news for the Echuca boys Ringo and should throw them well and truly into the mix. Does this mean OTB will be making a comeback to Big Footy?

Some good signings for Echuca

Pressure is now on Briggs as a coach, no excuses for him

Is a lot of talk that Briggs is very negative on playing group

And Ringo saying Watch out for echuca the last two years and they have gone backwards might come true

From what I've seen, the top GVFL clubs would do well in the Mornington Peninsula league (both divisions, as well as the old Casey Cardinia league, now the South East FL). I watched that league every week for a couple of years and Benalla, Kyabram etc. would be very competitive there.

The top four or five GV clubs would win the Southern league flag (Division 1) quite easily from what I saw of two years of that league

I saw plenty of Essendon league about 15 years ago, mainly Division 2, so can't really judge that, but clubs seem to have a lot more money than they did back then. I'd say Northern, Eastern and maybe VAFA league clubs (Division 1) would be too strong. Haven't seen much Western Region or Riddell.

The metro leagues obviously have a far superior population pool to draw players from and more chances to get sponsors and a better chance to recruit ex-AFL, VFL and TAC players.

The GV is a pretty good standard considering some towns only have populations of 3,000.

This is all based on the current standard of each league which can vary throughout the years. It would have been interesting to see how those great United or Seymour teams would go in Metro leagues.

Thought this was interesting from Brad Rowe where he mentioned the great United teams in the 80's and Seymours in the mid 2000's. Have there better sides for sustained excellence (say three years) as from memory both those clubs won three in a row. Tonny in 83-84 maybe and Mansfield was a powerhouse in late 2000's?

They have picked up 3 quality players and a fit Holmes will help..not sure if its enough to return to finals footy but a definite step forward.Reckon Briggsy would be hoping to win 8-10 games. I think OTB has many different guises Tongue! Not sure he is the sharpest tool in the shed as it stands out like a sore thumb when trying to cover his tracks. I feel no OTB is better for all of us;)

Sorry, should have explained better. They have the better of the two, couldn't care about the Sean
Still have know idea what you mean rootboy. Rochy have Dillon and my understanding is Sean Williams is coming back home also. He is apparently quite crook ... might not play so much.

Great to see the evergreen Paul Kirby sign again for another year at the kennel.

Do they offer special pensioner discounts for players at Tatura? I think they may need to look at this.

In all seriousness has been a gun for a long time. Good on him.

If Tat are set to pick up and Echuca as well who could be the Wooden Spooners?

Have all clubs secured practice matches for the new year?

Hearing some belter games....

The standard United v Yarra should be a ripper this year with both recruiting well....

Benalla v Lavington

Rochy v Abers

Echuca v Strathmore

Keilor v Seymour

Makes you ask the question why the GV don't host a lighting cup and get the best of O&M and Metro comps?

Bears have lost Willis, also heard Allan and O'Sullivan may be on the move, with the bottom two rising, they might be candidates

Bit of a worry Hank if that's the case. They have tried everything to make progress, they have a great coach. Not sure what the future holds if they find themselves at the bottom of the heap again.

Obviously you must have an insight into United's recruiting mate..haven't heard anything so it would be great if you could throw some names out for us

Yep as good as any Coach in the GV, but you have to worry when they couldn't/wouldn't match Echuca with Willis, both sides looking to push up the ladder after a long absence and Shepp said they weren't prepared to match Echuca as it would be detrimental long term, that tells me their finances aren't as strong as they need to be to contend as their spend would be in the bottom half of the GV as it is, so if you aren't in a position to match a rival club for a marquee player, then alarm bells are ringing with the off field fundraising/sponsorship etc.
