Did you not see Michael Morgan? He set up the try to tie the scoresWithout Thurston they lose by 40 in that game. Everything he did was elite.

This is one of my fav Billy moments.
Stewart shouldn't even be taljed about as being as good as Slater. No that is Slater when comparing to Thurston. Thurston has carried average plod teams to finals and has been so much better at rep level. It isn't close, and that isn't considering Fittler and Johns who are miles ahead of Slater too. Slater is very good don't get me wrong but he is basically a finishing fullback. Is he much better than Brett Stewart.

Watch the try in the 80th minute again. Infact watch the whole thing. Morgan was BOGYes and Thirston got them in a position to be even in the game. Thurston was the best player on the field by 10 lengths
Slater has gad injuries tooNot that far off actually. Slater isn't much better than Stewart except he has been injury free this has had more chances at SOO level. Stewart at his best is as good as Slater has been.
Not really the case, you forget Shane Perry?I'd take Thurston first simply because a great halfback's the key to any great side.

Anyone who doesn't have Lockyer ahead of Slater, Thurston and Smith either (a) knows nothing about RL or (b) only started watching RL after 2003.
The halfback of the 2006 Broncos Premiership side (very good team) but your typical run of the mill state league player. So I don't think the term a great half back is the key to a great side (certainly helps).Never heard of him.

Exactly he was clearly the key, just saying a halfback isn't necessarily the key to a great team. Probably the phrase a good playmaker (whether that be a five-eighth, half or hooker) is the key to a great team, would be more appropriate.Did have a bloke named Lockyer next to him though!

That 06 team was truly a great side that forward pack was incredible.Usually need 2 of the 3. Even that Brisbane side which is probably the exception still had Shaun Berrigan at hooker from memory. It does show how good Lockyer was though, he literally carried that team to the premiership that year. You can usually make the 8 with 1 of the 3 (if he is in Thurston's class) but to win the title you need at least 1 more of the 3 to be high quality.

But the fact they won the comp with a spine that played not even half a season in those positions is unbelievable.
1. Hodges (Moved to fullback in the back end of the season following an injury to Hunt).
6. Lockyer (Best player in the comp nuff said)
7. Perry (Plucked from QCup half way through the season)
9. Berrigan (Moved from the centres to hooker after injuries to Ennis & his brother).
If you talk about that 2006 Broncos premiership Paul Simpkins had a lot to do with them winning that grand final.
You mean except for Melbourne and the Dragons, both of whom beat Brisbane in the last 8 weeks...10 years on and still whinging. Meh he had very little influence and No team would have beaten a side with Lockyer in that form in the last 6-8 weeks.

You have obviously forgotten tge poke done at the tine that showed that around 72% of people thought he influenced the game10 years on and still whinging. Meh he had very little influence and No team would have beaten a side with Lockyer in that form in the last 6-8 weeks.

Not to mention the Storm were cheats anyway. The better side won period. A decision here and there means no difference. The ref doesn't miss the tackles or drop the ball. Blaming the ref is such a cop out (in any sport I might add)
