Is Deledio more important to us at half back or half forward?

Should we leave him where he is and has played well for the last couple of years, or move him back to half back where he used to team up with Newy and Houli to give us quick and skilful attack out of the backline?

My ill informed view is no - we need to get more goals scored so we cannot deplete our options forward. I reckon we were ok coming out of defence , what kills us is the poor delivery inside 50 and/or decision making around goal

The other side of that is slow ball movement off half back results in opposition flooding back and clogging up our forward line leaving no room.

Hopefully we start playing him as the 3rd tall forward occasionally isolating him in the square against a smaller opponent who will struggle with his strength, while a bigger opponent would struggle to match him on the lead. Would easily kick 40-50 goals a season if we can do that but I suspect he'll be playing a utility role where he'll float around the ground where needed.

Is this another Dimma experiment?

I think Richmond need a guy like him in both positions. Fast, skillful ball use off half back makes everyone ahead look better, which makes their next disposal under less pressure which in theory leads to more goals.

If each ball movement requires a disposer and a receiver and one of those needs to be highly skilled to retain possession, you would rather the one kicking it be elite because he can kick to anyone - rather than the likes of a Hogan/Fyfe who turn the 50/50 into a retained possession 50% of the time, you get Deledio kicking to a lesser player's advantage so they mark nice and easy.

IMO we should play him as an outside winger with stints forward. Instead of playing him every game, get him right for the latter half of the season. Yeah its a risk but I would prefer to lose games now, while grooming a small forward to actually develop in his role.

It will depend on circumstances and how games are rolling
Start fwd , but if the ball is Not going up there or were not getting any run off HB then swing him in the backline. Versatility should never be underestimated or under valued. Good teams win games with swing players as they're unpredictable and hard to match up

Cellis was tried off half back during the nab and IMO play half back especially in tartans and Conca's absence . I wouldn't have been against Lennon being trialled there to get him more confidence and more footy .
Now there's an idea. Wouldn't give us the speed, but oozes class

Do we really need thread questioning where we should play Lids every 3 months?

One of the better seasons of his career last year, AA jumper, 22 touches, 1.5 goals and 8 score involvements per game. Is that not enough?

Only way he'll be playing HBF is if they clone him.

No, its much harder to find a player who is an elite forward like Lids is. We still have Houli, plus we can also play someone like Menadue back there as its a good spot for a developing kid.
