Strategy Kick it to Cloke

In NAB 3 we saw our defenders attempt to hit targets with short kicks after a point was scored. This was caused by the Bulldogs pressing up high. The result of this approach was catastrophic because our defenders simply do not have the skills needed to execute successfully. Here is the solution that I have emailed to Bucks.

After the opposition score a point a designated player will take the kick in, someone like Langdon for example. The remaining defenders stay in the defensive 50 to guard against the ball coming back in. Cloke pushes right up to a position around 10 metres beyond the defensive 50 and is surrounded by a possy of our best mids. The designated player kicks long to Cloke, he either marks it or brings the ball to ground. Our mids win the contested ball and go forward to Gault who has remained in the forward 50 all by himself.

It's a simple plan but I feel this is the key to beating Sydney. If we try and play our way out of the press with precise kicking we will witness many horrible turnovers and will probably lose the game.

Keep It Simple Stupid!

I don't get it. We almost always beat Sydney regardless of what we do.

We only lost to them last year because we kicked something ridiculous like 2.7 in the third quarter. Combined with Elliott and Pendlebury missing sitters in the last.

With my strategy we can win and build percentage.

Kick it to Cloke? Rubbish idea. The 'Kick it to Cloke' mentality has been fazed out along with Clokes diminishing returns/output. We have more forward options than before, even with Reid, Elliott and Howe out of the side. We are far ore attractive for this, and far less predictable.

It has left me scratching my head...
Why? Seems a pretty simple concept. Cloke pushes up the ground to contest kick outs (he's still easily our best contested mark), freeing up the forward line for our other forwards, and Gault or Moore stay back in case he takes the mark and is able to wheel around for the slingshot in to our 50.

I be more Don't kick it to Cloke.

Make us a better side with him up the Ground and as a Decoy
Seriously Dave. Read the post instead of just the title...

Do you have to point it out every single time?
If you're going to write a post, people have the right to respond. I'm not trying to have a go at you, but it was pretty clear you didn't read his post before you typed yours, and Jmac deserves to have his post read before it is dismissed.

If it's any consolation, you aren't the only one who did it.

I'd like to see cloke play in the midfield a couple of times a game.. Let him him do a roughhead. Imagine cloke tackling a guy who grabs the ball out of the ruck. Would make mince out of them.

Problem is he has to catch them first.
