We played horribly today and the Dogs were amazing. I don't think any team in the comp would have beaten the dogs today. The beauty of it is that it is only round one and there are another 22 rounds to go. We are definitely a much better side than what we dished up today. I'm pretty damned sure that we will see a much better side next week. Keep the faith, we were very flat today and that's footy sometimes. The Dogs will be a very formidable contender this year and good luck to them.swings and roundabouts is AFL footy. I'm gutted, but remaining optimistic. You have to be

But I think that's half the problem. We can pass it off as a one off, move on with much of the same and probably win next week but are we actually improving anything?

Think some serious deficiencies have been shown up and we have to fix them now before it gets too late.

It's already too late to fix them this year. We have to wait a whole other year. No amount of kicking practice at training is going to turn average players into elite kicks. A lot of our problems can only be fixed through the draft and trading period. We have issues everywhere; forward, defense, lack of speed, kicking skills, talls etc. Players like Clancee Pearce should of been put on the trade table a long time ago. Chris Mayne is a pure liability atm. He laid zero tackles today

Of our team that played today, only Sheridan, Taberner and Weller are under 23.

I find this very disturbing. If almost all that team out there today are experienced players and they were so overawed ..... I mean if it was a team with a lot of inexperienced youth you might expect that sort of performance. It was a total rabbits in headlights experience. What ever happened to giving great effort.

Fyfe is injured and shouldn't have been playing. He will never be the same player again as his back will be targeted - he's the new Adam Cooney....
Mundy is the worse captain ever. He couldn't even win the toss, and played like Mandy. He's the new Sean McManus.
Sandilands let us down by knocking out that poor Richmond player and being absent from the game.
Barlow waddles like a duck and couldn't hit the side of a barn.
Ballantyne is cooked, he made everything look hard today and couldn't chase anyone down.
Spurr can intercept a mark but then turns the ball over time and again. He's the new Shane Parker.
Ibbotson went missing. He's the new Daniel Parker.
Pavlich plays for frees and never deserves any of them. He should have retired last year giving Taberner a go...wait, no!

Just in case you don't realise, I am not being serious. But no one covered themselves in glory today (except the team who came out snarling in red, white and blue), and every player should have a look at their approach. Coaches too.

Barlow was an awesome player for four or five years, but his days are over. He does nothing and when he does, he is the turnover king.

Taberner is disgusting.

I said during preseason that Fyfe had added too much bulk and today you saw with your own eye's how he has lost his main weapons of speed and agility . Fyfe couldn't get off the ground in marking contests an he has lost a yard in pace .Yes he copped a knee in the thigh but that wasn't at the start of the game and 9 possessions in the first half says a great deal. I think that for all the talk his back is in worse shape than he and Fremantle is letting on.
Mayne has lost his MOJO and we don't have enough skilled or smart players to play the new game plan .
Weller was at least trying and making an effort to get involved .
Sutcliffe gave it everything against a stronger and bigger opponent .
Clancee showed that even though he was outnumbered he can still play a role .His game today was better than what he played for Peel last week .He has learnt the game plan but not many others have yet .
Those calling for changes will get their wish but be careful what you wish for .
Smith is not as good or mobile as Taberner, Dan Pearce and Suban are heads and shoulders in front of Blakely ,Hughes and co .
Collins should be the next cab off the rack .
If you think Spurr has bad disposal you would be shocked and if you weren't bald before the game you would be after if B . Grey plays .
The players that will improve this team next week and in following weeks are Morabito , Bennell and Johnson .

Let those that play badly play today play for peel and see whether their disposal is same bar with WAFL level.

That is true I am feeling a bit better now remembering that. My brain says we are better than what we saw out there today. Could the 10am start have been a factor in our being not switched on? I think the answer to that is maybe. Next week will give us a clearer picture of how good or bad we are.
