Our foot soldiers are not suited to the way seems to be progressing. Time to develop some new ones suited to the new game plan....if there is one.

Tabiner will never be a key forward. Pearce may have to be developed as a forward instead of back.

Tabiner may be good enough to be developed as a backman

It only one game but my observations have been apparent for some time

Its all about mind set. Very poor. Just shows how important Sandi and Johnno are for leadership. Also, how hard it is when you dont drop down to recuit top end talent. Would love to know how many top 10 picks the dogs had playing today, as opposed to us.

Only four (although Libba & Wallis would have gone pretty high if the 2010 draft was redone without F/S) in Tom Boyd, Stringer, Macrae & Bontempelli. Murphy was taken at pick 13 way back in the day but our team today had a ton of former rookies or mid-late picks.

We made a grand final with **** all 1st round picks a few years back, there's more to winning than having high draft picks.

I don't know what so great about C.pearce coulda .
Let those that play badly play today play for peel and see whether their disposal is same bar with WAFL level.
Clancee was not the worst player with a fremantle jumper on today and he made better decisions with the ball today than what he did in the NAB Cup and Peel game .
The 2 new rules along with the reduced rotations have moved the goal posts .On top of that you have a new game plan all in 5 months from the end of last season . Throw in the loss of Johnson and the last minute replacement of Silvagni .

Kangas got smashed by the Crows first up , WC went down to the Bulldogs and the Hawks lost to GWS and the Dons early . Its swings and roundabouts over a long long season. We saved our smashings for the end of season ,best to get the kinks out eary.

Meanwhile GWS at least two years ago had about 27 1st round picks.

No Doubt,
but it helps. We lack top end talent. End of story. We dont have a Josh Kennedy, Jarrard Roughead. We struck gold with a Nat Fyfe. But that doesnt happen too often. We win a lot of our games through desire and work rate, not superior talent.

You blokes are biased to the Ross Lyon ethos. Today was totally unacceptable.

We lost, it happens. Ross has had a heck of a lot more acceptable games than unacceptable so yes I am a Ross fan. If you don't like what Ross is doing see you in about 2021 .
Im a Ross fan, and a Freo fan. But I think you can still acknowledge errors. I think we needed to attack trade period harder, even if that means trading a mayne or crozier. We seem stale.

Personally, a lot of my pent up anger stems from the fact that in games like today we just don't look like scoring a 100 points, let alone anywhere near it.
As others have said, I don't like the rigidity of RTB to a plan that is quite conservative - impossible to claw back a deficit like that doing the same thing.
I'm a fan of Ross's but I think this is a flaw of his. great leaders should have a 'plan B', and good teams should know when to use it.
Second point on Ross's methodology, It didn't take Nostradamus to predict the bullies style, particularly out of the back half. Was it indignant stubbornness thinking a bunch of lumbering big guys would put defensive pressure on. I think he underestimated the pressure the bullies bought to our fwd entries - a lot of dirty ball from us played right into their mobile backs. Just stupid from us and exacerbated the deficiency between inward advantage and outward disadvantage in our fwd half.

Didn't get to watch any of it, too busy doing other stuff.

But I said last week that these early starts in Melbourne are a jinx on us. 10 am start - our guys would still be asleep.

They fly out on Friday and it's only three hours. If you can't acclimatise to that, then you shouldn't be playing AFL for a WA side.

The dogs got a jump on us and it rattled our cages. Those seven goals to nothing won them the game. By the middle of the fourth quarter they'd only added another three or so goals, much of this was due to their yips in front of goal but we had our yips too. They caught us napping and we lost our heads. We played without any rhythm or purpose; players didn't know what each other were doing and I'm going to presume this is due to tweaking with the game plan. But I would be dropping all of Clancee, Mzungu and Mayne and bringing in SNOS, Langdon and A Pearce (to play forward).

Bit too level headed and analytical for the melt thread I reckon ;)

I had my meltdown during the game from the third tier.

We're at a crossroads. A couple more games like today this month and even a stubborn old fart like Ross will make changes.
