It didn't happen with Riewoldt. Brisbane tried to get their 50 km zone increased to 100 km to cover all QAFL prospects. It would have allowed them to pick up Riewoldt and it was declined. Brisbane never actually had the rights to Riewoldt.

If on the money with Steele then have to look at getting games into Hopper rather then Steele. But given his saying 'May' perhaps more a guess.

Just the week their names were pulled out of the hat... the one with all the GWS players, under the age of 25, names and who the journos want to write an article about them leaving for the week.
With Steele, this just doesn't make sense. Getting games, in a team on the up and improving week on week. Close to Ward too. Got to be speculation.
Steele is going to be group 1 I reckon. He has incredible vision and deft hands and seems a cool customer. Only knock on him is that he is slow but when you have his tricks it doesn't matter.
Hope he stays...would be weird to lose both Bruce and then Steele.

I don't see any way GWS let Steel walk. He's going to be a gun! Slight man crush watching him perform pretty well against the Hawks. Glad I didn't travel for that one!
I think that of the players that have been thrown up Tommo & Marckbank are pretty well gone. Everyone talks up Shields leaving but I think he's looking at a premiership first & will sign for 2 more before the end of the year.
Is there room for WHE?? Where does he fit in the best 22?
Coniglio could be the one to get squeezed out 2017 & look for a bigger payday.

I suggested on the Hawks board that Breust would be a good trade target for GWS again & that it could almost be a straight swap for two of Marchbank, Tomlinson, Steel & Hopper (because I think he will be awesome). Perfect fit if Stevie J retired & moving an extra list space for GWS.

We need to trade in players like hawthorn need more premierships
The dudes that don't fit into our best 22 are at least as strong a mid to long term prospect as any trade option including Bruest, and were a deal to be done, it would be one for one. Steele (with an extra for extraordinary) is going nowhere, as is Hopper.
I think that's a pretty harsh reply to a bloke that has come to the board with respect.
Breust is simply better and more of a need then Steele (taking in to account how strong our midfield group is) and Tomlinson is simply not making the grade. Swapping those two for bruest is probably a win win for both teams. Marchbank is another option to be used as a trade because we have good depth in talls at the back but he is a talent so would only be traded for something very useful.
Conigilio won't be "squeezed" out however, he is an extremely important piece in the puzzle and after losing treloer he won't be allowed to leave with out forcing his way out.

Pickett is our Stevie J replacement and jeez it would've been good to see them in action together this year.
Marchbank and Tomlinson are definitely gettable, however I just don't see it with Steele.
Bruest is by no means a need for the club. He would be a luxury the club simply can not afford. Signing bruest would mean we have to offload a top line required player which the club won't be doing due to bruests salary.
Unless a top line player lands in our lap like Griffen did we will be wanting draft picks to spread the age profile of the list. The 22 that will play in our first premiership are probably already on the list
I don't get why some of you are so willing to offer up Marchbank. He showed plenty early this season before getting injured and is going to be a star. He compliments our playing style, and with Patfull nearing retirement age, we would be looking at Marchbank to become an important part of our defensive setup.

He might have been the replacement but he hasn't shown enough to lock that in. I'd be pissed if we lost a Pickett due to Stevie J but if it was due to breust id be ok with that as he is a long term option.
I'd take the proven talent over the potential one

James Stewart any chance to leave? Is he highly rated ?
Hard to tell. Was sitting comfortably third tall/second ruck until Rory Lobb exploded. I've always thought his goal kicking is a little suspect and he occasionally goes missing, (and he's not much of a ruck chop out to be honest, but better now than he was) but there is no doubt about his talent. Will never be a star though - more a handy, more-than-serviceable clubman. He'll play a role. Doesn't particularly stand out at NEAFL level like Tomlinson does when he's gone back.
Is he a chance to leave? I think so.
Will he cost much? I wouldn't have thought so.

Cam McCarthy is not out of contract. Even in a good news story they manage to stuff it up.
Great news though on Lachie. I was listening to his interview this morning and he was saying how much he enjoyed being out of the Melbourne fishbowl.
Very happy.
