Imbeciles…had to find room for VB?
Maybe at review, Brad admitted to struggling to cope with the lift in intensity and pressure that comes with going from SANFL to AFL level. He's barely played any footy.

The coaches obviously see more of VB than any of us. To them, he may not be a whipping boy.

Its funny how many people are selection experts on here. Had no idea how many of you work within the confines of the club and watch trainings and are privy to the discussions on KPI's, goals and strategies that go on. This is great. I will sit back and learn something.
Shut down Big Footy. It's all pointless discussing anything. Whew, thanks. Saved us all a heap of time.

And who are you to judge those comments?

It's not like you are part of the match committee. All it means, you don't agree with that comment but don't have the ablity or knowledge to pass judgement.

No, what it means is I let selection do the talking on the weekend. Smashing the club about selection without a game being played first is silly. Its as simple as that. Some posters have already come out and suggested that the club will be a bunch of down hill skiers this week and look like millionaires before losing to the giants the following week. Those comments are absurd and insulting to every player and the club. I don't see what's to be gained by making stupid comments like that.

We've been trumpeting how well our SANFL team is going (lost one game which was the last kick of the day to the top team) and have been talking up our depth - yet when a spot opens up we choose to recycle a veteran who looks to be physically cooked?

*If* we've already decided that CEY and Grigg are not up to it, fine. Would have preferred any of these guys though:

Menzel
Greenwood
Doedee
Wigg
Gore
Beech
Give Pykey a call, I'm sure he'd be all ears.

There is discussing and having an opinion and then there is pointless ranting and raving. I am only seeing the later by people who have nothing better to do then hate on the club and certain players.

If only we have not travelled down this path many times before.

Tonight's match day selection has almost turned into a cliché

Pods on AA said Wigg is banging down the door.

So it's down to Wigg or Van Berlo. I understand frustration that Wigg wouldn't be selected over Van Berlo, but I see M Crouch as a very short term out, and VB as a stopgap. They want Wigg to play as a long term prospect. Then again you could say, just play Wigg anyway and see how he goes. Understandable.

But saying "PYKE HAS LOST THE F*CKING PLOT" over what is essentially VB v Wigg seems quite an overreaction. The "he's not playing the kids" argument doesn't cut it because M Crouch, Milera, McGovern and Lever have had first crack this year.

Stop posting like a jerk. It's called having an opinion.
Mate, the club has had a track record of making stupid decisions, thus the reason why we havent won a premiership for 20 years! When the club makes decisions which the casual observer know are wrong it doesnt say much for these so called experts employed by afc who are taking home members money as wages and not achieving any real success!

Why did you quote me with this?

Menzel is a half forward.
Greenwood has played 5 games of football in 5 years.
Doedee is barely SANFL ready.
Wigg? Fair call.
Gore isn't playing well enough to warrant AFL selection.
Beech is on the rookie list.

Then you are seeing what you want to see. As ever, there is a mix of responses. some more histrionic than others.

However, in the post I quoted, you weren't making a point about ranting and raving, you were dismissing points of view on selection that didn't come from any inside knowledge of club procedures - which is basically all of us.

VB will play midfield IMO, this week and next week
Haha

Can you imagine next week against GWS?
Shiel head to head with VB!

Jake Lever on Jeremy Cameron!
Hartigan & Talia will have to play on the bigger two in Patton & Rory Lobb.
We're going to get destroyed. 70+

Do we have any future goals in terms of the midfield? Isn't CEY contracted for 2017 as well?

Club overrated b crouch and mis managed him...should never brought him in against two of the best teams in the comp especially after a year off with injury. Play him into form against bottom 6 teams team after round 15 and once he has had a good 6 weeks in sanfl to find fitness and confidence!

Is match day selection an exact science? The club makes the absolute best call it can for the future of the club. Sometimes (some may say often) its far from good enough and been quite poor at times. The selection of VB is not bad selection if its looked at in depth. The club could have played a débutante like Wigg or Gore but the defence has been under siege and VB at least covers Laird reasonably well as an option in the back line. Anyways, if VB stinks it up this weekend he will make himself an easy 1:1 with Laird and his career will no doubt be over. When Wigg and Gore get a chance, surely we want them to get multiple games?

Menzel is a half forward.
So are Cameron, Douglas, Milera. No reason those three can't play more midfield time.

Greenwood has played 5 games of football in 5 years.
Is he a 3-5 year project player then? He's lightning up the SANFL now. Cameron hadn't played much footy either.

Doedee is barely SANFL ready.
"Play them before they're ready. Use them before you need them." - Chris Scott

Wigg? Fair call.
Gore isn't playing well enough to warrant AFL selection.
Neither is VB. Gore has more of a future, has an impressive season of VFL football behind him and looked ok in the preseason.

Beech is on the rookie list.
You can promote rookies

The only reason to pick VB is because we're panicking after two losses and - as has always been our problem - see experience as the solution to every hurdle we ever encounter. That would be fine if we were bringing in a proven veteran from a successful era but we're delving back into a period of limited success.

Van Berlo is replacing M Crouch who is being rested, not to be the cornerstone of our team. You don't upgrade rookies, or play guys who aren't ready, for that.

Nothing wrong with discussing and having a difference with selection. I never said that. But some of the commentary has been poor by some. That is all. I am no expert (far from it).

Really disappointed that the club hasn't backed Brad in when we've seen it takes a few games to gain form from Atkins and Cameron, especially when Douglas has been worse and stays in. It makes me think he must have got on the piss again. Not sure what happening with CEY after most his performances in the SANFL have been better than Gore's ats (perhaps he joined Brad for a night out).

VB in is pretty inexcusable though, only positive is if Smith moves into the midfield, even then Wigg should have been brought into the side instead.
