There are a lot of complacent Carlton followers out there that are not real supporters,'
What we do have is a lot of people who identify as Carlton supporters, not because of a true passion for the club, or even the game, but because they have chosen a club to fit in their social circle, or their work environment, where footy may be a regular topic of conversation.

I have met a number of Carlton 'supporters' over the years who will never buy a membership because they have a fleeting interest at best, yet when asked at a social gathering, or even in an official survey, who they follow in the AFL, they nominate Carlton. Many of these people became aware of Carlton because of our sustained success during the '70s, '80s & to an extent, the '90s & it was fashionable to identify yourself as a Carlton supporter.

I truly believe our core group of supporters are fairly accurately reflected in our membership numbers. I would be surprised if we were to see much more than 50k members over the next 5 years.

Round 7, 2009

When North decided not to go to the Gold Coast in 2007 the AFL ended all their affiliations and programs on the Gold Coast in 2008, despite being contracted until 2009. Carlton played a one off match there for a one off payment of about $400,000.

From memory we had signed up to play another game there in 2010 (as may have at least one other Melbourne based club), but then the AFL decided to start a new club on the Coast therefore the planned 2010 games were canned & the Suns fielded a team in the TAC Cup in 2009 & the VFL in 2010.

Lot of truth in what you say, the other variable is after the AFL made us a basket case a lot of people walked away and even more under our inept management. For people to come back the Club is going to have to offer exceptional value.

Trigg admits we haven't had as many IT staff as other clubs and it has cost us memberships.

AFL to provide temporary IT support and we will hire more programmers next year.

Continuing the club's increased fan engagement, several players will be taught c++ and html and next year will handle the counter directly.

:p

Paying the price for being a basket case in years gone by I fear.

Some former members have clearly made a commitment to not coming back.

Would be hard not to be caught up in the emotion of what the club is doing at the moment though.

A crowd of33 K is pathetic. Where were you Blues Supporters

I went out for a mate's birthday so unfortunately was at home dealing with a hangover, and so were the mates I often go to games with. Probably would have gone to the game if it didn't start at 1 but will definitely be there on Saturday.

Apologies, I didn't know you existed, Ms Doss

Welcome to BF! :thumbsu:

Are you a closet blues fan like Doss? :D
Her appearances here are but sparse...

A casual Magpie is how I'd describe her.

Anyway, I'm sure on the back of a much better season this year, you'll hit 50k either at the very end of this year's tally, or certainly in 2017.

No excuse!

I went in last year to the port game with the old man carrying a horrific hangover.

In his new car I held a spew from chandler hwy to my office near Etihad...then we realised the game way at the G and I held the spew from spencer st station to jolimont then the G. Was actually amazed at the mental strength I showed to not spew in front on my dad (who doesn't drink).

The boys were good enough to win as well.

Missing a game due too being hung is sooooo Kane Lucas
