I'm confused - why can we only do one at a time?

It's not like grabbing Jack with a 4th rounder or as a DFA somehow prevents us doing a separate deal for Marchbank or Prestia, or drafting a Will Brodie type.
If we only trade for players capable of replacing those on the list ranked 15th or lower and draft to replace those in the top 15, then those ranked 15-22 on the list become depth and those ranked 30+ get delisted if they have been given time and haven't made the grade.

Not a lot of sense in trading for someone likely to be 22-25 on your list because while it adds depth, the player is only useful when there are injuries and may well be 35th on the list next season once the draftees from this season go past them and if you draft a couple like Weitering and Charlie Curnow the following year. Nothing Jack has done to date makes me think this would not be his fate. Let's draft kids and back our development to make our current players our future depth unless there is massive potential upside like Plowman or Sumner.

The problem i have with the rumoured GWS super dooper trade is that none of the 3/4 players are an guarntee to be an A grade/Elite player, whereas odds are we could pick up a future elite and quick midfielder with the first rounder we would have to cough up.

So we would be trading away a near certain opportunity to draft an A grader for depth/collection of B Graders.

Is that actually the right approach for a rebuilding club to take ? I'm not convinced
So the pick we get in the draft which is likely to be pick 6 - 10 is a near certainty to be an A-grader, yet the pick 6 from two years ago that we look to be trading in will only ever be a B grader.

What makes pick 6 this year more of a certainty than the same pick two years ago?

For what it's worth, I think Marchbank will be an A grader.

Not sure if mentioned, but I've had word that Carlton are pretty seriously into Hurley for next year

Getting him for free would be handy. Not sure how much we would want to give up

Cant see that being the plan...

If we're going to spend $600k plus on a player, you'd think it would be a mid.

Our KPD's are the least of our worries for now with Weitering, Plowman, Rowe & White doing a fine job.
Also the rumour that we're into Marchbank (obviously may not eventuate).

Yep agreed. That's the word I received though from someone in the know (at Essendon)

The timing doesn't feel right but it could be. He's 26 years of age but would be asking for ~$750K
We could likely afford that but getting Marchbank just seems the better option leaving (and building) Cap space for a time we're more competitive.

Seems unlikely to me but not that unlikely that it wouldn't happen. Interesting.

Well Plowman was a no.3 pick and always had the talent that he's now showing, but ask yourself this, If we had a premiership team or even seriously pushing for finals, would kedge be getting a game, don't get me wrong I like him but is he the sort of guy that can make a massive difference to our team? In my eyes he's on the border of depth and best 22... Only becuase we have know one else!!

Correct .
Kerridge will play games in the short term and help raise the standards on the track but as the rebuild progresses and higher quality players are brought in he will be fazed out .

A good thing to remember is SOS will have plan a, b and c. The gws 4 may be plan a and Prestia may be plan b and hurley may be plan c.

Obviously we can't get all the players were linked to but that doesn't mean we're not linked to them if you no what i mean

I feel Prestia will be coaxed elsewhere.
We're employing strategy whereas I feel there will be some clubs using desperation to get who they want.

We've bitten the bullet and announced our position.
We have nothing to hide any more, whereas some other clubs are still desperately seeking a finals gig......any finals gig.

Saved for posterity. You will eat your words Mr Bull!

He's a more naturally talented Ed Curnow type. And we won't be letting Ed go anywhere now, despite being a whipping boy early doors.

Kerridge will need time and patience from the club and coaching panel - something I am sure he will receive.

4 best 22 players, not the right approach for a rebuilding club? Seriously?

As I said in the draft thread, Steele would be as good as any midfielder this draft, it's not a superstar draft just extremely even... And to Steele, Tomlinson (wing) Stewart (fwd) & Marchbank (def) we cannot lose. I also think Marchbank will be elite.

Time will tell i guess .
Always happy to be proven wrong if a player discovers the attributes you think they lack ...

If we get two elite defenders running out for us, our defence will be a premiership grade defence...

That would be special and we can thank SOS for it.

Can Hurley be Plan Z please?

Seen posted a few times now that Steele will go where the $$$ is...

If so, would be interesting if he were to come to us, as its clear that we have a plan and wont pay over the odds for any player anymore.
You'd think another club could pay him more than us.

You reckon? I'd hate to sound dubious, but given what Ed has shown this year, I really would have thought it was the other way around. Given that I really don't remember Kerridge in an Adelaide jumper, could you elaborate for me why you think he's a more talented version of Ed's type?

I'd quite happily pay Steele mid to high 300's... Sydney did that with McGlynn and Kennedy.

That would be about what he is worth as a third year player who hasn't broken into the senior side yet.
