Seen posted a few times now that Steele will go where the $$$ is...

If so, would be interesting if he were to come to us, as its clear that we have a plan and wont pay over the odds for any player anymore.
You'd think another club could pay him more than us.
I'm not reading too much into him going for $$$$$. Obviously we will need to make him an attractive offer, but GWS just can't pay him what he is worth.

Sorry if i'm not being manipulated by McCarthy's sob story (unlike Mitch Clark's case which is very sad)

Freo and McCarthy's management have used emotional blackmail in the media to try paint The Giants as heartless villains, only the mental health issue was brought up after GWS rejected Freo's (at the time) lowball trade offer.

And even if we assume McCarthy has those issues, moving closer to Mummy and Daddy isn't going to solve them (from a long term point of view)

I think Fro offered two first round picks, hardly a low ball offer.

Correct .
Kerridge will play games in the short term and help raise the standards on the track but as the rebuild progresses and higher quality players are brought in he will be fazed out .
Too simplistic a view. What's to say he can't improve his decision making and become an integral part of our midfield moving forward?

I would've said the same thing about Curnow as late as last year, but he's taken it up a notch this year and is a staple now.

Improvement happens with good development systems, which we now seem to have

Hope he does , he's got the work ethic .

Agree it can be tough and some people arent cut out to do it.

But.. expanding our mind further than the sphere of AFL football, male suicide is a disproprotionately large issue in Australian society. Men are prone to kill themselves everywhere over these things. Yet I couldnt name you a footballer who took their life last year, or even in the last decade.[/QUOT

Chris Mainwaring, didn't kill himself but drug overdose in a period where friends said he was facing serious personal troubles.

Not convinced about that. Kerridge will never be a top 4 mid in a premiership side, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't get a game. Really good sides have all kinds of guys playing very specific roles and he would retain some value. Still young and improving too.

Think every team could do with a hard at it HF who can find the goals and rotate through the mids

The problem i have with the rumoured GWS super dooper trade is that none of the 3/4 players are an guarntee to be an A grade/Elite player, whereas odds are we could pick up a future elite and quick midfielder with the first rounder we would have to cough up.

So we would be trading away a near certain opportunity to draft an A grader for depth/collection of B Graders.

Is that actually the right approach for a rebuilding club to take ? I'm not convinced

How do you figure that, two of them were top 10 picks. So if they are no guarantee to be A grade players then who we pick if we dont has no guarantee either.

We currently have three mids in Murph, Gibbs and Cripps that could become A Graders or elite in the next couple of years and beyond but we lack quality depth. The GWS4v2 is a perfect trade to give us the perfect foundation to draw good talent in or create a development environment that comes from a winning culture.

Tomlinson - AFL quality super versatile tall that hasn't been given the chance to play in a team choc full of talent, there's no shame in being a fringe player that occasionally forces his way into that team.
Steele - Like a rich man's Kerridge and I like Kerridge! Would love watching him play beside Cripps for the rest of their careers.
Stewart - This guy can frustrate a little but he's still a huge forward threat on his worst day. Has some versatility too but is dangerous anywhere within 60m of goal.
Marchbank - Highly rated, played very well so far, what's not to like. Especially with Weiters by his side we'd have bookends sorted for 10yrs.

Again though, a VERY long way to go before this trade goes through, the original poster with the rumour has a good record.

Gibbs is 27 and Murph is almost 29, they are both in the midst of their peak and will start declining in a couple years. That's why we need tough midfielders in the Cripps mould.

Kerridge will play 150+ games for Carlton.

EDIT: 178 to be exact.
No BF Board is as precise as the Carlton BF Board. 7.4% more precise. :thumbsu:

Their age is not an opinion. We need to be planning their transition now

We don't want another Judd situation where we have a handful of guns but no side around them to challenge

Attract Prestia as a DFA and Steel there you have two quality midfielders. I'd give up our 1st rounder a pick 6 to 10 to make the GWS4v2 deal happen as sweetener add next year's 2 nd round too.
That would set us up nicely.
