Mate there is seriously bugger all work for the trade at the moment. Someone the other day said that forty people applied for a switchboard wiring job in a workshop. It's the dregs that type of work too, repetitive and boring as hell.

Yeah mate I've watched on as electricians wire up switchboards. Some of my mates work for Schneider electrical in Perth and earn good money and have no desire trying to chase the money up north with fear of being laid off.

I'm happy doing what I'm doing for the moment working in food storage and transport. Might not be the highest paying job but it's fun and secure for now.

hmm I'm not sure about electricians specifically, however I know the specialty trades have not being greatly affected.

Drillers are still very much in demand and are commanding $120k min for a 4 week on 2 week off.

The electricians out in the wheatbelt in their own businesses are actually usually pretty much flat out, was thinking about just doing the contractor course and going out with my own business..

Oh and I got a bill for $700 for a 1.5 hour job to hook up gas, seriously that's just bullshit. No plumber is cheap but the other 2 guys I've used were at least reasonable.
