Sure but it was put that to find better than Astbury is easy to find and I simply don't believe its that easy. I want a better player than Dave, and would love to find one cheap. Some can come thru but it also depends on the club they go to.
recckn an upgrade on astbury wont come cheep what other good teams have is no better, anyway, grundy at swans, scofied at wce, tarrart and firrito, dawson, trengrove and carlisle at port, hardigan at crows, longergan at cats.... all regular best 22.....
dave just needs a bit of pace running past him and if yarran, houli can get up and going again we will be fine. people forget our back 6 has had chaplin, hunt, morris, bachelor, maacintosh and menadue all down there heaps this year all in my opinion not good enough, depth players or not quite ready yet.

Dave has a lot of pace running around him. Name a player slower than him?;)
Will Liam get a farewell game against the Swans knowing our season will be over by then:eek:?

hehe :p chuck in hammer, maric, and miles

Mcbean's a spud, has had 4 years to smash the door down and hasn't done it, what i saw today his level is D1 ammos. will be delisted and end up at some suburban club in 2017.
A few ex tiger players playing in the EDFL... McGuane, Gourdis, Putt, Browne play for Keilor now. (Dea was heading there too before being picked up by EFC) And I noticed Bathie's name there too. Apparently playing for our VFL side and Keilor (not sure of the arrangement). I believe Aberfeldie have a huge budget and were paying $1500 a game. Maybe McBean could do something similar.

Farewell game? Mate, he's getting a farewell tour. Starting Saturday at the G, he'll get another game at Adelaide Oval, Manuka, and rounding a magnificent career off at the home of football, the SCG. :p

but nah, I expect him to kick a few on Saturday. If he doesn't have an impact against the Paddle Pops (massive rabble) he'll never make it.

Close this thread and let's all hope pimples has convinced dodorko that McBean is a gun who has been starved of opportunity and we snag a 2nd rounder out of essendrugs and we walk away with the steal of trade week.

Geez, the bloke keeping McBean out in Vickery ain't worth a second round pick!

Not in your eyes maybe but clubs will pay up for an available experienced KPF and back up ruck, as for Liam well he might fit in at Coburg or Frankston.

Like they did post? Or da Goo? Or Cleaveland?

I think that the club really erred in his development. When he kicked many goals week in week out for the last two years, the club should have given him an extended run at AFL level. He could have learnt the other stuff that you do off the ball from Jack Riewoldt, who is one of the best forwards in the league.

Kicking regular bags is such a foreign concept to our AFL side, so they should have given him an opportunity if they wanted to get a player like that into their forward line.

Now it seems too late and he is probably gone by the year's end. Like Matt Dea, I see him become a decent player for another side.

I'm no skills coach, so others may be able to comment further on this.

There have been a number of recent comments from coaches at the club that he's playing like a small forward and they are trying to get him to play like a tall.

If he's playing like a small, and bagging goals at VFL level, would he be able to get away with that at afl level, where the pressure and pace is up a few notches (and he may not have the required speed and response times needed to play that way)?

I am not sure either, but I think that it would have been wise to at least test it out at AFL level. Our points for in the last few seasons wasn't that high, so I think it wouldn't have hurt much to experiment and see how other forwards would perform in our forward line

Well they did, and he failed both times

It's why I'm guessing the "playing like a small" may be a factor. If he plays like that he'll get killed on the deck at afl level

He only had two non-consecutive AFL games in his time at Richmond so far. I personally don't think that is a whole lot of time to get a feel for the game at AFL level. They should have given him a 3-4 week block if they really wanted to test him out at AFL level IMO.

Not all players play well in their first 2 matches at AFL level, and it would be unwise for them to judge his capabilities based on those matches. He was putting his hand up in the VFL after he was dropped last year and was not responded to again. It is just not how I think you'd develop a player. It just doesn't seem they were very interested in him even though he looked promising.

I am just not confident that they are making the right decision in regards to McBean when I look at what they are willing to persist with at AFL level

It's rubbish. They say it's not about goals and that they know he would kick goals at AFL level, and then when he sacrifices his own goalkicking, works up the ground and takes 4 or 5 contested marks, they still don't put him in.

He's just not one of the favourites. Even when he was in the AFL and got dropped immediately he was a better tall target than Vickery is ATM. He leads to smart spots that straighten us up, whereas Vickery stands there then flails his arms wildly. If that's playing like a tall, maybe we need less talls.

I actually thought he showed a bit in his two games.
I'm wondering whether its yet another 'pigeonholing' problem.
Does it really matter if he's a 200 cm 'small' forward?
What if that is a problem for the opposition, not us?
What if that means they will have big problems finding a match up?
Too big for a small/med defender, too agile for a tall.
True, it may not solve our 'key' position issue (apparently he's not that strong in the aerial contest).
But it might give us a very dangerous third tall.
