Macca how tall is he? Just thinking do we need our midfielders to be in the 190cm plus .e.g. Bontempelli (from bulldogs my spelling is no doubt out) Crips from Carlton etc

He's 179cm. I think if we want a tall mid then there's probably a couple available later in the draft we could look at - Junker, Romensky, Lipinski all look alright and are around the 190cm mark. Junker is 194 from memory.

With Ainsworth, as honeyboy said, he's a walking ball of muscle and I think on talent and potential he could well end up being the best player from the draft.

I really don't think we are interested in English. Far more pressing needs than spending a high pick on a ruck that will take a while to develop.

We've made the mistake in the past of not taking a top quality ruck. Think Grundy/Lycett.

You'd rather Grundy on our list instead of Wines? And yes, Lycett would have been nice but it would have been a pretty big reach taking him with pick 16 - even if Jacobs was a reach too.

Ben Ainsworth is probably top of my realistic want list now. Since moving into the midfield he's been putting up ridiculous numbers. In the last 3 weeks hes had:

1 - 33 disp, 4 marks, 4 goals, 4 tackles
2 - 26 disp, 6 marks, 3 goals, 6 tackles
3 - 33 disp, 10 marks, 3 goals, 4 tackles

Only McLuggage in this years draft can pull those sorts of numbers. If he's there, he'd be perfect. Quick, skillful, aggressive, x-factor, huge leap, booming kick.

Yeah I really like him too. Has that low centre of gravity and balance and strength in the core that I like in Robbie gray. If he is pulling numbers like that in the midfield now I'll back him to go top 3 in the draft

Ainsworth looks a player but not at pick 8 for what we need.

He won't make it to pick 8, and if he did I reckon we would and should spit his name out so fast

Ainsworth would be a cracking pick. Good skills, burst of pace and has some mongrel. Rotating Chad, Robbie and him through the forward and midfield would be pretty handy.

Would be tough if English and or Marshall are also available though.

Sympkin looks alright, good ball user. Wonder how far he will slide with his injury.

I notice Powell-Pepper seems to have dropped away on most draft boards despite reasonable WAFL form.

Very keen on Simpkin if we end up with a 2nd round pick and he slides. We need better ball users on the outside and around the forward half.

While English could really be something , it would scare the crap out of me to be the ones to take that risk. Plenty of tall types who have excellent mobility and skills don't end up working at afl level. A good punt for some teams but I don't know if we can take it.

who are these top quality rucks. grundy at pick 18? Gorringe at 9?

or Gawn and Goldstein at 30 odd.

ruckmen don't go in the first round because they're simply not worth it.

(ok natanui is one but rare as hens teeth) and he was supposedly our number 1 target anyway.

With an ageing Sandialnds & retired Pav, I'm expecting either English or Marshall to be drafted by Fremantle. McCarthy will also probably end up in Freo's lap if they can work a deal with GWS. Unfortunately, this years draft lacks depth in regards to genuine KPF options.

A fit Doug's would have been very handy heading into a new preseason. If Geelong shops Vardy around the club should pounce pending a thorough medical.

Freo will add macarty and if they trade for lobb then gws will have that pick.

I reckon Brodie , mcluggage and ainsworth will go top 3. Freo almost certainly will take sps At their pick. Marshall and McGrath will go picks 5/6. That's my guess anyway.

Watch butcher's U/18 highlights.... I believe one of the commentators says 'he just doesn't miss'... He really did look the goods when he was younger, sad that it went south so badly.

Petrevski-Seton would be unreal. Pace, skill and that Burgoyne-like smoothness to his game. We aren't getting a pick early enough to get him though.

Let's say we got pick 1. The last thing I'm doing is trading that for a lower first round pick and a second rounder. But if you did, let's say for 6/7 (I doubt you get much higher) and 19 (by some miracle given Essendon would have it). The net result would be:

Port lose Hartlett and 9
Port gain 7 and 19
(Yuck)

Jamie Hampton probably going to be around as a third round pick. Has a bit of size about him he was used as a key position defender by the Territory during the under 18 championship that's the problem with being reasonably tall in the Territory he's not a key position defender but he's strong does good inside work can run and is a reasonable kick. We could do worse in the third round.
