QAFL 2016

So a mate at UQ tells me that a few of the long-standing members there have executed a coup to take charge and finally pull them up to the professionalism required at this grade, only to find that there's no longer a spot for them here. Apparently the club is crumbling. Not good news for them, but good news for the competitiveness of the QAFL! Who's going to take their spot though? Maroochydore? Mayne? Coorparoo? Springwood?

Nobody, but the mail is that Coorparoo are earmarked and keen. Not sure how possible that is, given the current Coorparoo Seniors is essentially a retirement home for ex QAFL Players who all seem to have decided to take a step back from that level of footy for whatever reasons. Does anyone really think Ben Gibson or a couple of the Lake boys wouldn't be playing QAFL if they wanted to?

The best bet would be to turn Moreton Bay Lions into a pseudo Sunny Coast rep side, as Sunshine Coast footy is always stronger when Noosa, Caloundra and Maroochy are all playing in the same competition with quality local derbies.

As soon as you place one of those 3 in the QAFL, its just going to cause dramas with player movement etc. Good luck to AFLQ HQ solving that pandoras box.

Yeah reckon it is a near certainty that the next QAFL team will come from nth of the pine river. But with the new Div 1 set up it may be hard to coax one of the 3 main clubs on the coast to move - reckon they are all pretty happy with this set up. Its always a balancing act between whats best for your whole footy club and whats best for your better footballers. If there is a good relationship forged with one of the nth side QAFL teams then that would probably work. Im like you though QAFL - not really sure?

Moreton Bay need to be smart about it and put a plan in place.

They are the best candidate to go into the QAFL if they can forge strong relationships with the 3 top clubs on the Sunny Coast and present their best players with a viable option to play QAFL footy on the North side of town.

If any of Noosa, Caloundra or Maroochy ever go up it just won't work - and would negatively impact all 3 clubs at once.

Sunny Coast footy is strong enough for a QAFL club, and the QAFL would benefit from a presence up there - but how to best achieve this is a problem for someone wiser than I.

You are aware Moreton Bay in not on the Sunshine Coast? How many coast players want to drive 40minutes each way a few times a week, for a whole season?

This isn't park footy on a Saturday arvo with some mates anymore. I'm sure if blokes did dedicate themselves enough and make the effort then the results would likely show through. This view is only reinforced by Tommos statement above. But then again, it takes 40min to get from Indooroopilly to Chelmer on a week night.

If you work in town, you need to leave the office at 5pm to have any chance of getting to training by 6pm at any Brisbane QAFL club.

bloody traffic!

Redlands are going nowhere in the NEAFL, reckon they will drop back to QAFL at some stage, they virtually are totally reliant on players from other clubs, their youth football program has all but disappeared, can't see them lasting in NEAFL for much longer.

With the way the draft works, that would be extremely difficult for them to now come up with a seniors and a reserves side to play QAFL. Redlands have lost some supreme NEAFL talent to the AFL in recent years. To say they are going nowhere isn't fair. If they had all those guys still playing, they would be close to unbeatable.

this is a good point. they seem to have someone drafted nearly every year. they must be doing something right

Dunno what you were watching, but they didn't have set shots from in front late in the game at all.

They also got the shocking call where they marked next to behind post, played on and missed and then got another go!

If the ump hasn't set the mark then this is a correct decision thommo

Did anyone see the game today ,,, a summary please
Magpies kicked first 2-3 goals of the game then after that tigers kicked the next 6 then pretty much goal for goal for the rest of the game, gee staker looks like he is carrying an injury looks slow magpies missed a few shots on goal!! Gee what a game in the reserves before hand between tigers and panthers! panthers kicked a goal 20 seconds to go to win by three points, must say worst display of umpiring I have seen in the last half of that game disgraceful comes to mind umps calling panthers by there nick names and having a laugh with them on the ground credit to panthers for winning but umps helped them over the line

any idea where Lions vs Magpies will be?

Magpies the nominal hosts, but they weren't allowed to play finals there last year and the ground looked worse this year.

Strange though, as Dittmer Park looked like a dustbowl last weekend, terrible condition - and they hosted surfers.
