Not according to Bojancantkick though

Mustafi and Xhaka are likely to be more durable than Wilshere and Mertesacker

Are they better than them? That is the question, yes they are shiny new toys n all that but Mustafi played in a team who seriously underperformed last year so who knows with that one.

Xhaka is probably their best bet, but if the Spaniard doesn't usurp Giroud then they haven't improved their striking depth at all.
Arsenal bought two players who will improve their first XI as did Chelsea.

genuinely dont follow the logic. i wouldve thought the more expensive the player, the bigger the gamble
there should be a correlation between the cost of a player and his potential/ability. Spending lots of money doesn't make it a gamble, particularly if the players have the required ability or potential, like Sane or Martial.

Lol Chelski

Panic buy Luiz and a Spanish hack who wasn't good enough for Sunderland not too long ago

K

Arsenal too....

Is the three they bought really an upgrade on their starting 11? Imo their depth is improved, nothing more
after the Sissoko transfer......lets not talk about panicking too much eh

Ability and potential only take you so far.

so every transfer is a gamble? that's kinda boring.
It probably is. But it's true. Wouldnt call any transfer a sure thing, especially a young player.

So many things can go wrong.

The only gamble for City is they may waste a transfer window if they sign a dud. Money isn't an issue - that's the point and why it is less of a gamble for them.

The Soldado deal kind of put an end to big money transfers for us for three years (or six Windows). The £30m outlay for Sissoko put an end to that. I fear another three year embargo on big money deals coming up for us

you've already got one Gooner on your team, why did you want another?

Wilshere was a West Ham fan.
Mason a Chelsea fan.
Carragher was Everton.

It matters not really. All 3 of those became passionate followers of the team they played for, who they followed earlier on matters little.

It really isnt.

The premise is the same. If I put 100 bucks on Red and Jordan puts 100 bucks on black, then we are definitely both gambling. That is true in every sense of the word.

But it's all relative.

I'm gonna miss that 100 bucks if I lose. Jordan will give zero ****s. Kinda like Man City.

... You're misunderstanding what the term relative means buddy. Man City gambling 30m is relatively the same as me gambling $100. I don't know where your 'I gamble 100 and Jordan gambles 100, it means less to him' even comes into it.

There's a distinction. Yes City may miss the cash less than sides less fortunate. A lesser side would need that 30m purchase to be a hit, City it's just a drop in the ocean so to speak.

Does not make the act of spending 30m on a young prospect not a gamble, they're still gambling that he ends up living up to the price tag. He flops and that 30m is not wisely invested. A bad gamble.

Smaller purchases can also be gambles as you're getting less talented players that are more likely to fail whilst expensive signings have more to lose if they fail. Both are still gambles.

In fact all football transfers have an element of gambling to them, there's no risk free signings (free transfers excepted)

Even then signing-on fees, agent fees, and wages are all 'gambles'.

To be honest, we have the team set in stone now though

Just need that left wing sorted and we are fine for 3 years, why it helps having a rock solid core.

I'd imagine in 3 years time we would need to buy defensive reinforcements as Toby and Jan will be in their 30s by then

It's less of a gamble, but it is still a gamble. 25 man rosters (we've used 20 this year) and if a new signing just doesn't work out it can be really costly. Bony is a good example, which IMO set the team back.

But it wasn't the whole point of this anyway. That, was that young kids will have ups and downs, and some will fall by the wayside. Football is full of examples of kids that came into the game with a bang, and left just as quickly. I look again at that Newcastle side when they bought the likes of Dyer, Jenas, Bowyer etc. I think a lot of people expected them to kick on with time but all of them went backwards for various reasons.

If I was a Spurs fan I'd be expecting a few dips along the way, it will be exemplified a bit more with you as you have quite a few young players and not so many experienced heads to keep things levelled (see Chelsea game last season).

We're just going to go back and forth mate. You clearly dont get it so it's all good. Let's move on.
