Totally disagree, he doesn't have the mental nous for the midfield.
Not only is it his inability to read general play which may be corrected to some degree by playing there full time...Its his terrible handball speed and hand to foot speed and very poor vision.

I'm resigned to the fact he's not a midfielder, just doesn't have the football mental acuity for it.

Agree 100%. There's little point in wasting time giving midfield development time to Yeo. He isn't a midfielders arseh*le.
Putting aside the fact he's a horrendous field kick which can often be overlooked for an inside mid, he's an appalling decision maker. Too many times does he just try to burst through the pack and try to take on 2-3 tacklers. Predictably he doesnt actually break all those tackles and it either results in a ball up or an occasional holding the ball call. The better option is to simply dish it off with a handball. He's also quite fumbly which is a very undesirable trait.
He needs to learn to play within his limitations, or perhaps he needs to realise he has those limitations.

I, like most others was wowed and sucked in by his flashy marking when he first arrived but I've come to terms with the fact he's not the answer to our midfield.

Midfield aside, when was the last time we had a dangerous small forward type? All our current small-mids are frontrunning types that go invisible for far too long periods in games. We need ones who kick goals from nothing. When JK or JD cant take marks, the dogs easily mopped up, when a great small forward would pounce on said opportunity.
We need a Cyril type who makes opposition defenders shit themselves.

Cut:

McGinnity
McInnes
Bennell
Ellis (Retire)
Cavka (Retire)
Lamb (Traded -> Pick ~#40)
Brown (FA -> Pick ~#49)

Colledge (R)
Tunbridge (R)
Adamson (R)

Approx Picks:

#12, #30, #40, #48, #49, #67, #85

Just go best available. If that means Tim English in the first round, so be it. Frankly we have neglected talls in recent drafts. One of each type this year would be ideal. I think we could get away with Powell-Pepper in the second round and I also think we might get Waterman with pick #85.

I have no real desire to trade for any players this year as I just don't think the quality is out there. However if someone bids on Waterman we may have to weigh up the benefit of picking someone up on the cheap vs picking up a kid with pick 85.

"IF :

Hawthorn

the Hawks add Mitchell, Vickery and O'Meara ...

... there's no reason they won’t go after Fyfe and Hogan next year. They just get deals done while other clubs are too scared to even pick up the phone. "

West Coast

the track's not flat as a pancake flat ...

... this mob won't cut it. Past two finals have been embarrassing. Need to make some serious calls on personnel, style, attitude, big names (hello Jack). And stop drinking the bathwater. It's all become a bit too cosy, despite what Simmo says."

I feel like yeo has been played out of position too often this season. wasted on half forward. he needs to hone his craft as a full time mid. don't agree with sentiments he needs to head back to the back line.

I have been keeping an eye on Yeo at games the last 2 months. I do not believe Yeo is capable of playing at the top level as a mid nor as a forward. Why?

Elliott lacks the endurance to play as a midfielder and he lacks both brains and accountability to be a forward.

He has now been in an ALF system for 5 years and even when played as a half forward, he is usually one of the first players to go off for a rest. By 5 years, most midfielders have developed their endurance to an acceptable level. He has burst acceleration not speed so he is only ever going to be in for an occasional midfield rotation.

In terms of forward, he has not been playing an accountable enough game in picking up his half back and stopping the opposition run from the half back line. In addition, he fills his pants in front of goals and his conversion is deplorable. His brain cannot keep up with sudden burst of pace - he is either as dumb as dog shit or lacking game nous!

As a result, his only role in in defence. In this area, he has already shown his ability to play. We should face facts. We had hoped for a Fyfe clone in the midfield but it requires Yeo to do something he is either incapable of achieving or not prepared to put in the effort.

We should be picking the phone up and calling Gold Coast.

Darling, MacKenzie, Yeo and / or Masten.

You want some experience to fill the void here you go. What interests you?

They will leap at Darling and we push one of the others into a deal.

Minimum a decent 1st rounder + their lowest 2nd round pick + Matera as steak knives.

Darling is average but the reality is we lack quality forward depth particularly over 190cm. I wouldn't be trading him. It would also never happen.

Agreed. GC have picks #4, #8, #21, #22, #24 and #27. And that's before Prestia, Omeara and Swallow leave..

It seems that this draft is going to be a good one, clubs are releasing players left right and centre. McKenzie to Gold Coast for one of these early picks needs to happen...

Keep Brown and Schofield.

Back to the backline for Yeo.

Get Wellingham back to midfield specs in the off season

Darling + Masten to GC for pick 8 + 21.

Emac + pick 31 to GWS for McCarthy + a 3rd rounder they won't use. Easily out bidding Freo and we replace Darling with a taller true KP forward.

Pick 8 - English / best mid.
Pick 12 - best mid
Pick 21 - SPP

We pick up a KP forward, ruck and two highly rated young mids with picks 12 and 21 in a strong draft + a 3rd rounder from GWS.

We lose Darling, Emac, Masten and pick 31.

It looks that way when the team is chasing. Look how quick we were v GWS and Crows last week!
Speed has been an issue for this team for quite some time. Jetta was supposed to be the answer, but he just doesn't get the ball. We press up hard, and get murdered on the rebound by speedy teams like the Bulldogs, or Hawthorn with their outside long legged speedsters. It's how we got burned last night and in the grand final.

We must lock in:
Shue
Nic
Shep
Weller
Gov
Barrass

We will keep because of service and age - worth a lot more to us:
Hurn
Butler - very under rated by some

keep for structure:
Kennedy and Lysett.

The others can go and we should be able to upgrade on all of them. We must look for opportunities (there will only be a few each year) as they are not winners.

What is in the future for Jackson Nelson, BOND 007 - can you shed any light? I realised he is young and not the finished article but the way the match committee treated him in 2016 had me confused. He was treat like an overused sex toy in that he he was in and out more often than a lonely ladies vibrator?

We seem to give far grater latitude to some of our older players for poor performance yet fail to give him a sustained run of games. We were excellent last year - what has changed this year?

Calling it now, we'll offload Mackenzie for a second rounder and then take Griffin Logue with our first pick.

who gives a f**k about the midfield!! :drunk: :'(

Last night has left me feeling like a bride that was jilted at the altar..

I know this will upset most in here but the time has come, we made our run last year and now its back to the drawing board. I think we should go aggressive and hard on some of our "Junk Time" stars.

Clubs have gone past us and if we want to be back up challenging again fast we have to go hard, there are only a handful of lock ins and pretty much any player who didn't stand up these last 2 finals series has to be seen as being in the way of our next flag and not propelling us toward it.

Lock in's as below

McGovern
Barrass
Shuey
Kennedy
Naitanui
Lycett
Gaff
Nelson
Tunbrudge
Sheed
Hutchuings
Sheppard

The rest can go up for trade bat as far as I'm concerned.

Darling, Masten, Cripps and others have shown they are "in the way" not "on the way" !

Lycett needs surgery , we need an experienced ruckman .

Clancey Wheeler as a rookie to pinch hit in the ruck , surely all this Brown or Yeo rucking is U/14 s stuff .

I dunno, I think Lycett will be all good to go by round one... We don't need a knee jerk reaction to his injury.
