I don't know too much about Pickett but sounds much more like Yarran than Clem Smith.. Just like Yarran if he gets it right and fully commits and buys in he would be a great signing.
He reminded me of a young Brent Harvey when I have seen him for some reason. Just a little too inconsistent but he will be more then just steak knives if we want him.

Clearly I know very little about the trade system and who is going where and for what but I will point this out.

Under Trigg the club has gone on a PR warm and fuzzy marketing blitz that has been all about member engagement and feedback. Taking the temperature of the members and refusing to take shortcuts. In my opinion trading any pick in the top 10 will be viewed negatively and therefore won't be done. We are 12 months into a 3 year rebuild, cannot see them raising the ire of members at this point. We may trade out for another top 10 pick but don't underestimate the importance of the perception of sticking to the plan and not giving away important draft picks.

Is the Marchbank & #15 & #17 for our #5, really such a bad deal?

First thing is that we get a much better spread of talent across the board.
Second, we really don't know what the recruiters are thinking for what we'll get at #5 as against #15 & #17
Let's see who we probably won't see as against some we may.....I know....a lot of guesswork but just my thoughts:

Won't see: McCluggage, Brodie, SPS, McGrath, Ainsworth, Scrimshaw, Taranto, Marshall, Venables & English. 10 players.
Next 12: Battle, Drew, Gallucci, Clarke, Florent, Rotham, Bolton, Simpkin, Berry, Kerr, Fischer & Witherden.

It's all relative to the way we view these guys but I wouldn't mind so much, should we end up with Marchbank, Clarke & Florent for the #5

It's all relative to: a. How much we rate Marchbank b. who we know we'll nab with those two selections.

Assume we take that trade, there is still scope to trade up the draft order. It is possible that we trade Tuohy or others with one of those picks to get in the top 10, or pick 18 from the Swans.
I think I'd still rather trade two second rounders than one first

The Dogs took four players in the draft before they took Daniel. Did they make an error of judgment also?
We know we've made some awful calls in recent years and we can't go on soiling ourselves every time someone we had a chance at taking, comes good.

We have a very different looking system now and have a dedicated list manager.
That's a positive start and the fruits of that showed up last year and will again this year.

until we move on jones tutt & thomas those deals will still hurt. to get past all those bad decisions we need no more reminders of that ugly past on our list

SOS got Plowman and co at a discount rate why not a package for Marchbank and Pickett for pick no.5 done they might also throw in Stewart for that.....Marchbank off of a shoulder reco will see start of preseason around xmas and Pickett off a nasty lisfranc foot surgery will see him also a bit delayed..dont forget Swan had a season ending lisfranc earlier this year but i hope Pickett will be ok, also Marchbank coming off a shoulder dislocation means there also could be complications so dont be surprised to see a deal done not reflecting their draft selection tags....I hope North will give us pick 11 for touhey...he would be worth about that he would be a great player for North, also i hope an early second rounder for Everitt possibly to the Suns? ARE THEY STILL INTERESTED?...PS where is our summer camp this year?

Sorry, gonna have to call you up on that. You can't say people are racial profiling when theres no mention of race at all. Thats not right. You're implying anyone who doesn't rate Pickett is a racist.

No mate, he is implying that the people who are saying he is Clem Smith the 2nd are profiling. You don't need to mention race as the only person who he is being compared to is Clem. Clem who was taken in the 50s and picket who was taken top 10, there is only 1 similarity and it's not talent.

I shouldn't have posted that. Yes I do think people are profiling him and it pisses me off to hear people call him fat or lazy or a cripple, but still it was a bad post from me.

If I had a lisfranc injury I would be calling myself a cripple.

If this is pissing you off you need to get some perspective on life.

Who cares if his in navy blue....Pickett is a gun,no joke.

So the original rumour was our 1st and 2nd for Marchbank, Tomlinson, Steele, Stewart.

If a first or a late second came back I'd like it.
Now that would see us a lot stronger and agreed price around that.People will say GWS BLUES we are ,however guns such as Pickett are yet to debut at AFL so we can claim him as ours...Stewart sounds a project player similar to Jaksch who we would have to be patient with him...I dont know if we get Steele,he may wish to go Saints this time.

We're still going to make bad decisions. I'm not worried about that.

I was more concerned that we didn't have a dedicated list manager, allowing McKay, Swann, Directors...and who know who else, allowed to put their views forward strongly and massaging decisions to suit their ego's.

Reckon SOS would slam the door in your face should you start floating around your 'gut-feels' about players.....at least I want that to be the case.

SOS will make mistakes but at least he can own those mistakes and not someone in the background that feels just a little bit good for getting their way.

NO... just no!

We need our 2017 first rounder for a kid by the name of James Worpel... go look him up on youtube. He will go top 5 next year and we need our pick to be in that range. He should almost be playing senior football this year!

And pick 7 (if we get it) for Venables? really... he should be in the 10-15 range if anywhere!

Where would we be getting pick 7 from?

Not high on the prospect of losing #5 and a chance at a high-end midfield talent.

Drafting is an imprecise game, but as a club you should be much confident about how a top 5 pick will pan out than someone at 15.

I still think a #15, #17 + player or Tomlinson + Marchbank are reasonable and good trades to make, but not coming out of this off-season with at least one blue-chip midfield talent would be concerning to say the least, given how poor our midfield situation is.

The biggest issue about the old recruiting regimes of Hughes and Rogers was that they refused to work under a list manager. "Let the baker bake the bread". So year after year a tug of war between a group of voices about which way to take the list forward. Madness.

How can they refuse to work under a system that gets ticked off on? I don't get it?

There's so much wrong in a system that allows employees to dictate the pace and no matter which way we go about things, we always get back to the fact that the fish rots at the head.........and ours was rotten........was.......fingers crossed.,
