Tuohy states he wants to be traded to Geelong due to the great contract they have offered him which means that the club has to work out a suitable deal with the Cats or we could risk losing him for nix via FA.

There are no three-way options on the horizon, what deal would we strike ??

Can you show me where Tuohy 'states' he wants to be traded to Geelong Sheik.

I haven't seen anything at all.

I love the optimism, but...

Steele = 'speed bump'. Barrett = Whiley. Cripps = Hercules. Cuningham, CCurnow = positive but unknown. Pick 23 = depth.

We're coming from a long way back and it's going to take at least the next two drafts before we're ready to charge. While we're at the pointy end of the draft it's inexcusable to pas up the shot at a genuine gun mid.

I am being very, very optimistic here but..

C.Curnow-Bontempelli
Cripps-Liberatore
Steele- McCrae
Barrett-Hunter
Cuningham-Dahlhaus
E.Curnow-Wallis

Get around it.

Make of this what you will, from a good source.

Carlton spoke to Fyfes mangement 7 weeks ago
Last week when he was in melb he asked to speak to carlton directly
We brought in 10 massive hitters from the business world...and told him what we pay him will b peanuts to what he could earn with these contacts
Juddy also presented and said its true
But nothing has been agreed
Talks will continue
Carlton not worried bout it getting out as they know hes also spoken 2 a couple of other melb clubs
But triggy has pushed it as he know from eddy betts u need to get in early
My man also told me we have spoken to 3 other very high profile players bout joining
Two end of next season and one 2 yrs away...he cannot get who it is yet as its a bit more sensitive

We

Reading BTW the lines the best thing SOS did last year was he got 10 n 12 and did the maths and knew he could get McKay and Charlie whom he wanted

Very clever

Did the deals but also had his finger on the pulse in regards to where kids would fall in the top dozen on draft night

Exactly. You have to know your targets and not just the numbers.

That's the art to these things. Getting numbers seems fine but knowing the names attached to those numbers is what separates the men from the boys. (terrible term, I know)

This is where 'favoured' arrangements are made.

We're currently scratching GWS's back and they're scratching ours and maybe we can keep that up for a little while yet.........or at least until we start to become a force, whereby our favoured trading partner status may well disappear.

C'mon Harks, do you really believe that fairytale ??

Who has favoured arrangements anyway ??

Every year is a strong draft but at the end of the day, most will get one first rounder, one second, one third etc.

I did though suggest that we do come back into the draft by trading 2018's first for 2017 first.
Next year we hit on a quality FA along with possibly 2018 also, along with getting Ben Silvagni in 2018.

That way we have three solid years of drafting, recruiting along with hitting up on FA's starting 2017. It could work.
I hear you Harks, but I am strongly of the view we should not trade our 2017 first or second round picks.
We are still a chance for bottom four and I would hate to be in the Freo position of not having two very good picks to take to the draft.

I haven't seen anything at all.

It's a hypothetical, Aph. Just missing the "if".

"If Tuohy nominated Geelong, and we couldn't orchestrate a three-way deal with another club, what would we accept from them?"

I don't really understand the issue with trading 5 for 2-3 players and a later pick.

One (POTENTIAL) great player against 2-4 players who will improve our best 22? One of them could be a (potential) great?

One of our failings under Ratten (ie last time we were competitive) was the top end talent was exceptional but it was a team of individuals, compare that with WB who have some great players but also have a strong unit of 30+ players who are all ready to go.

Marchbank was pick 6

Many of us are still haunted by the Jaksch/Whiley trade. You may well counter "This is different, Marchbank is no Jaksch".

Plowman, pick 3 in 2012, is probably the best of the GWS6 yet cost us only pick 28.

By contrast, I'm not seeing a bargain here.

Most people were gushing & agog over Jaksch as much as they are now about Marchbank and look at how that one played out.

Huge difference.

Not 'Tuohy states he wants to be traded to Geelong'

Very easy to misinterpret Sheik's post.

Sorry what I mean was can you have 2 franchise players?
Fair enough... and if Ben turns out to be as good as rumoured, we would have 3 franchise players :) one on each line.

If it makes sense to me, it just may make sense to some others.
In many lines of business, one does have favoured partners even if they may be the opposition at times.

Put it this way: I'd bet that GWS would sooner trade with us, than with Sydney or Hawthorn.
The other thing is that teams have to get a lot more creative in the future. You can't just wait any more nor look at things on a one week at a time basis.
Those days are long gone and never to come back. We best get used to being creative.

I have a feeling that SOS has got something up his sleeve again.. he just seems like a very smart operator doesn't he? I reckon that he'll trade Tuohy for a pick around 20 but also someone else may surprise us, and if he can't get the players he wants from GWS with the Tuohy pick he'll combine the two to trade back into the 1st round..thoughts

Which side of the fence was SOS on for the first deal?

Which side is he on now?

Lol

I always find it funny how people want to match up our players with the opposition like that.

This is what I'm suggesting:

We trade our 2017 first now, knowing it will come back to us next year, for our 2018 first.
I know that may sound odd, but maybe only because it hasn't been done before and it's not exactly allowed, as things stand right now.

We may not need our first rounder as much in 2018 knowing Ben will be a very high commodity in his draft year.

I know it's not easy and that it may be hard to agree upon, with so many unknowns attached, but we will have to be think this way in the not too distant future when:

1. We can trade picks up to 2 years in advance.
2. When the draft age is raised to 19.

Hey HARKER did i see you drop some sneaky about BUCKLEY the other day? I'm sure you were about to divulge something...

Nothing sneaky at all. He's not contracted......clubs have enquired......so who knows?

The Fyfe talk next year, is finally starting to surface.
Andy Maher very coy on what he knows about the whole thing.
