Check out his disposal efficiency. 78% over his carreer from memory. I suspect he has a few skills.

Hopefully SOS can trade back in to the top 10 and all these new kids will add something to the team.

Trouble is expectations are so much higher this year after SOS's mighty efforts last year.
Not saying Kennedy's unskilled just thought it would be a more highly rated player.
If it is pick 5 for those 5, I would hope it includes a pick back from GWS.

Doesn't matter where they were drafted none have fired a shot, what was Matthew Watson worth 3 years after he was drafted, not convinced half these guys won't be delisted free agents.

Difference is that GWS want to play finals and cant afford to not play a solid consistent 22. this isnt 4 years ago.

Players like patful and shaw have taken the place of young unexperienced high draft picks.

Here endeth the lesson

Makes all the sense in the world to me .
Lyons is a rising 25yo plodder .
Draft picks fit our rebuild better and they can be used in any combination of ways by Silvagni to work towards the big picture masterplan .
Agree if thats what the market judges gibbs to be worth a 1st rounder and a player such as lyons . Then id back sos to turn a 2nd rounder which although is a bit later in the draft being adelaide into a better player than lyons . If not and ends up equivalent then nothing lost . Or yes can be used elsewhere in other trades .

Do you not think that sos knows these players inside out whoever they are.Of course were not going to get 5 stars,if 2 come on and play 200 games we'll be wrapped!Yes this draft is filled with gun midfielders but they obviously are looking at the big picture.Keep calm and don't worry about pick 5.

I don't expect to get 5 stars but I expect more than 1 and that list doesn't inspire me much outside of Marchbank.

I would prefer Marchbank and say Brodie/SPS/Ainsworth etc. rather than a selection of guys who have barely fired a shot since being drafted.

I'd rather have 1 gun who contributes to a premiership than 2 ok players that will help us scrape into finals until we bottom out again.

I actually think McKenna has good potential and think he could come on nicely at Carlton.

Stewart will definitely get games and I think he will be serviceable. Not at all sold on Pickett or Kennedy. At least Pickett has a lot of ability, Kennedy is just a foot soldier really.

I will trust other people's opinions in suggesting that Marchbank will be quality.

Overall I have to say I'm not thrilled about this trade.

Trading pick 5 for multiple, non-established players doesn't sound good on paper, but unless you've followed their pre-draft career closely, drafted them once before, then you are going back to them again after seeing what pick 5 has to offer, we can't really judge.

History tells us that it may not be a good idea, but we haven't seen a situation like this before.

What I think might happen, which will cause a meltdown here, is we trade Tuohy for multiple picks in the 3rd/4th round. Then on-trade those to GWS for pick 16. I'm predicting they'll trade 5&7 to Brisbane for pick 2 & later pick(s), draft McGrath, then select academy players using the later picks to match points. That's as far as I'm going with predictions!

When is this weekend going to end!?

What will our strike be of landing one who can actually play?

3/11?

If we're lucky.

Plowman so far is the only one who's shown anything. We're all assuming Marchbank can. Maybe one of the others as well.

But none of them are going to be gun midfielders for us so we will have to make do with cripps leading the charge, an injury prone Murphy and maybe losing Gibbs to Adelaide for a rubbish trade too.

We need both but I think our depth is horrid.
More than anything we need players with the right work ethic, an acceptable skill level and most importantly the right people to play how Bolton wants us to.

I feel like we'll get so much further with less talent under Bolton than we did with more talent under other coaches.

Hopeful of Sumner but I feel like he'll just be an 'almost' type player. Nearly always there but never actually arriving.

Marchbank is the only other I'll be fairly confident in.

I know pick 5 is also a speculative selection but the other off cuts are somewhat known commodities even with some having more upside than others.

We need high end talent not depth.

It depends what you think of as depth.
If it's bringing in a better players in the 22-30 range on our list, then you're right. If it's bringing in a bunch of players clearly in our best 22 (say 8-16), I would say improving our depth is more important than 1 good player.

We played some very good football this year, and had a stretch when we won 6 out of 7 games. But later in the season, we couldn't cover the loss of Murphy. We need to build our depth so that losing 1 gun to injury doesn't mean we can't win.

And which one of that 5 for pick #5 deal will help cover the loss of Murphy if he goes down again? Not just next year, but the year after as well? We can't expect a first year draft pick like Brodie or Taranto to cover for him but in their second year, they should be able to start.

With that deal and the Bryce one, we will be ****ed in the midfield for at least 2-3 years.

I must admit, the more I think about the 5 for 5 trade, the more I don't like.
Last year we passed on pick 28 for the players and not many raised an eyebrow.
I feel if we did similar with pick 24 or even a pick in the low 20's (which I know we don't have) but people would probably be more acceptable.
I think pick 5 is too much and even though I do trust SOS, I hope we aren't outsmarting ourselves.
Remember Tomlinson deal last year? That still doesn't sit well with me!

1. You need to look longer term
2. We don't know which players we will actually get if we do trade 5
3. The mooted Gibbs trade is nonsensical, we probably shouldn't worry about it (unless it happens)

I highly doubt all these posters commenting how they don't like the idea of the trade now anything about the gws players we are allegedly getting beyond the fact they aren't in their best 22.

Pretty sure sos would know a bit mode than that more about those players...

Point 1: Yes
Point 2: Correct
Point 3: Correct again.

I'll admit that I'd love to see Brodie or Taranto drafted by us, but once the novelty of the fresh new toy is over, you're left with a player, much like many other players.
This 5 or so for 1, won't tick every box but it will give us much better depth and if SOS knows he'll get 2 * 200 gamers out of this grouping, we would have done very well, indeed.
We do need depth, as 10 or so players can't hold up the rest of the team. Even the best of their spirits will break if they're expected to be in the bests every week. I'd wait until we saw the outcome of the deal before rejoicing in it, or denouncing it.
