Probably a good thing we've locked them into the MCG with that Country game then.... :|Just for the Etihad Crowd Numbers debate, all Essendon games over 50k at Etihad are:
Geelong v Essendon 2013 - 53014
Geelong v Essendon 2004 - 51400
Essendon v Geelong 2007 - 51156
Essendon v Hawthorn 2001 - 50701
Geelong v Essendon 2008 - 50636
Essendon v Hawthorn 2009 - 50475
St Kilda v Essendon 2004 - 50392
Geelong v Essendon 2012 - 50066
Essendon v Brisbane Lions 2004 - 50003

So that's about one every two years - Seems we have the right mix of games at Etihad.
Assuming by 'biggest' you mean 'most members'.... When did we say that? The whole idea of putting a cap of 50K seats when we have 60K members (and growing) is a crazy idea.
If the club is serious about challenging to become the biggest club in the AFL more games at the G is a must.

I've never had the impression that having the most members was a priority for us. Thought that was a Richmond/Hawthorn thing.
We have a membership thread here were people cheer the membership tally as it rises all year round, so I wouldn't say its just a Richmond/Hawthorn thing.
They were my words, although the clubs puts a huge amount of energy into retaining/recruiting new member each year with door knock, phone calls, e-mails and social media so it must be pretty Important to them.
Not disputing any of that, just thought you were implying that they had made some sort of statement about being 'the biggest'. All good.We have a membership thread here were people cheer the membership tally as it rises all year round, so I wouldn't say its just a Richmond/Hawthorn thing.

Hey everyone. New here, been an Essendon member for a while.
My observation from attending games over the years, before the move Essendon was getting near or exceeding the 50k mark for most of the teams they were playing against at the MCG. I believe that was the driving reason why we got such a great deal more than anything else.
Also seems that the move has dented Essendons possible growth. I've known many casual fans that with the combined ticket increase, parking expense, being further away from the eastern burbs and limited seating choices haven't taken the next step in getting a membership.
I'm south-east and I personally don't find it much different to go to either stadium, for me it's more about the time spent travelling, date and time of games, cost and location of tickets. Richmond station is after the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines have merged so I guess there's that (they all go through Richmond before they get to the city). I'm not certain about the eastern lines, but I think most trains go through the loop and thus through Southern Cross?Welcome to the forum.
I would've thought that being next to Southern Cross Station would've helped the transportation isssue as it can be accessed easily by train from just about anywhere, easier than the MCG at least. Being further away from the eastern suburbs is an idea I hadn't considered. It's certainly easier to get to the stadium from Essendon and the north west suburbs the club traditionally called home but today a lot of people live in the east and the support is more widespread.
Coming from Bendigo myself I know a lot of people here find Docklands to be more of an incentive to go down to games as we only have to get one train. Sunbury would be similar as a lot of people from there board our V-line train on the way in.

Don't go through the city loop? Yes they do.Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein don't.
That would make it slightly more difficult. I guess the easiest way would be to change trains at Richmond for people on those lines then.Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein don't.
I mean from Richmond. They do on the way back.Don't go through the city loop? Yes they do.
I explained it poorly. They go through the loop on the way back, via Flinders Street. That would make it slightly more difficult. I guess the easiest way would be to change trains at Richmond for people on those lines then.
Not so bad then... it's probably actually quicker to go South Yarra-Flinders-Spencer than going through the entire loop and getting off at the second last stop.I mean from Richmond. They do on the way back.

Incorrect. Having caught a bus to Richmond, I jumped on a city loop train and got there quicker than I would have going via Flinders (which generally waits for 5 minutes)Not so bad then... it's probably actually quicker to go South Yarra-Flinders-Spencer than going through the entire loop and getting off at the second last stop.
