Probably a good thing we've locked them into the MCG with that Country game then.... :|

So that's about one every two years - Seems we have the right mix of games at Etihad.

The whole idea of putting a cap of 50K seats when we have 60K members (and growing) is a crazy idea.

If the club is serious about challenging to become the biggest club in the AFL more games at the G is a must.

Assuming by 'biggest' you mean 'most members'.... When did we say that?

I've never had the impression that having the most members was a priority for us. Thought that was a Richmond/Hawthorn thing.

Just putting out a question for the efc artisans. DO we become more experienced & versatile playing games interstate or is it just tiring and a waste of time?

We have a membership thread here were people cheer the membership tally as it rises all year round, so I wouldn't say its just a Richmond/Hawthorn thing.

They were my words, although the clubs puts a huge amount of energy into retaining/recruiting new member each year with door knock, phone calls, e-mails and social media so it must be pretty Important to them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with striving to be the best. It beats the toxic way of thinking that by being a big club, success will just flow on. Or to put it another way, everything done at this club from 2002 onwards.

Not disputing any of that, just thought you were implying that they had made some sort of statement about being 'the biggest'. All good.

Hey everyone. New here, been an Essendon member for a while.

My observation from attending games over the years, before the move Essendon was getting near or exceeding the 50k mark for most of the teams they were playing against at the MCG. I believe that was the driving reason why we got such a great deal more than anything else.

Also seems that the move has dented Essendons possible growth. I've known many casual fans that with the combined ticket increase, parking expense, being further away from the eastern burbs and limited seating choices haven't taken the next step in getting a membership.

Welcome to the forum.

I would've thought that being next to Southern Cross Station would've helped the transportation isssue as it can be accessed easily by train from just about anywhere, easier than the MCG at least. Being further away from the eastern suburbs is an idea I hadn't considered. It's certainly easier to get to the stadium from Essendon and the north west suburbs the club traditionally called home but today a lot of people live in the east and the support is more widespread.

Coming from Bendigo myself I know a lot of people here find Docklands to be more of an incentive to go down to games as we only have to get one train. Sunbury would be similar as a lot of people from there board our V-line train on the way in.

I'm south-east and I personally don't find it much different to go to either stadium, for me it's more about the time spent travelling, date and time of games, cost and location of tickets. Richmond station is after the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines have merged so I guess there's that (they all go through Richmond before they get to the city). I'm not certain about the eastern lines, but I think most trains go through the loop and thus through Southern Cross?

Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein don't.

Don't go through the city loop? Yes they do.
I mean from Richmond. They do on the way back.
That would make it slightly more difficult. I guess the easiest way would be to change trains at Richmond for people on those lines then.
I explained it poorly. They go through the loop on the way back, via Flinders Street.

Not so bad then... it's probably actually quicker to go South Yarra-Flinders-Spencer than going through the entire loop and getting off at the second last stop.
Incorrect. Having caught a bus to Richmond, I jumped on a city loop train and got there quicker than I would have going via Flinders (which generally waits for 5 minutes)

How many Sunday games will we get? The AFL does the fixtures based on results, expect to see the Gaints, Dogs and Cats play more prime time slots, every team usually gets a Friday night ( take away from last year Suns and Giants ) which will likely change. I am a fan of Sunday games, the early 1:10 slot is perfect, that 4:40 slot will likely be axed.

I am predicting we will have anywhere between 8-12 sunday games with a round one blockbuster against a traditional rival. Wont be Hawthorn, they play Geelong, could be Carlton, although if rumours are true they will play Norf on Good Friday. Won't be Collingwood because of ANZAC day. I am predicting either Richmond or Melbourne on the Thursday night before Good Friday.
