There has been a procession of GWS players heading off to Victorian clubs and trades have been achieved for every one of those players without any real problems - Boyd came closest to not happening but after a bit of bluster a trade was done.

There has been one player wanting to come home to WA (McCarthy) and despite Fremantle offering two first round draft picks, GWS basically refused to negotiate which resulted in that player sitting out footy for a year

Curious

So what do people think of the vickery compo ?
Deal 2 years at 500k
gets them band 3 compo after their 2nd .
Mayne will probably get the same compo .

After last year when the afl screwed right down on the compo they seem to be easing up again .

Leuenberger got a 4 year deal at almost the same money and Brisbane got band 4

Think Leuey and suckling were around 900k over 3 years. End of second rounders.

Selwood $1.6m over 4. Mid second rounder.

If Mayne gets $1.5m+ over 3/4 he should get band 3.

The AFL should have nothing to do with it. I am all for FA but the club losing the player should put the price on the player and that should be it.
Take last year with Dangerfield, Adelaide really got stuff all for him.
Adelaide should of been able to say we want whatever and thats the price for Dangerfield to leave.

"We want pick 1 for Dangerfield".

Or for us last year, "We want pick 1 for Scott Selwood".

How would that have worked? Do we just get what we ask for?

So the club losing a player gets to determine what the compensation should be?

Yeah, can't see any problems with that.

Richmond, Tyrone Vickery is leaving as a FA - what draft pick do you want?

We'll have pick 1 thanks

Yep, nothing will go wrong with that

It's really bloody frustrating that no elite player ever wants to head to WA. Unfortunately with this new free agency system unless that is changed eagles and freo wont be winning anytime soon. IMO they need increased salary cap so they can sign the players the East coast teams do simply by paying them more, because everything else being equal they wont sign for WA teams.

Well it has to be realistic doesn't it. Dangerfield is worth pick 1 and some. Selwood is worth a 2nd round pick at best. The clubs should negotiate, the AFL should not be a a part of it.

Why can't the two clubs negotiate? What is wrong with that?

Not sure why people are so worried about inactivity from us in the trade period.

Trading for trading's sake is stupid. There's only four players I reckon we'd be majorly interested in -> Mitchell, JOM, Coniglio, Swallow. The club would know it's really stretching it to convince a non-Perth person to move to the city so it probably doesn't put huge amounts of resources into it. Bryce Gibbs would fall into this category.

With those four players we know Mitchell and JOM want to get to Hawthorn. Coniglio just re-signed. Swallow is still a chance, but probably not this trade period and the rumours suggest he is more interested in (North) Melbourne.

If there are no beneficial trades forthcoming then we go to the draft with what we have. Maybe not everyone likes that, but to me that looks like the best way forward if nothing beneficial comes up.

As others have said, what would Geelong care what pick Adelaide/WCE are getting in that instance?

In fact why wouldn't they just agree to high compo on the understanding that when the shoe is on the other foot, the other side will do the same for them?

If we ain't having a serious dip at one of Rocky, Barlow and especially Swallow I believe the Eagles can't be taken serious. That's not saying we can't win it with what we have but once you are that close to the flag you have to bring in the players to top you up. All 3 do that.

Rockliff doesn't add much, particularly if he wants the reported $800k per year to add it.

Barlow doesn't add anything, he's pretty much done.

A captain with serious attitude problems who's a renowned chipscab, an old guy who's past it and another who may never get on the park again? Yep, can't take us seriously at all

Seems as though our club is accepting mediocrity at this stage....team isn't quite good enough for a flag yet they continue to stick with it as though they are ignorant to the fact we need midfielders. Pickett would've been cheap, a potential solution to our small forward gap and would inject some pace into the team but he is off to Victoria?! Offer him something to come home ffs. If we can't even get WA boys to come home we may as well pack up shop and leave trade week for clubs hungry to create success. If we get Petrie or don't pick up some mids i'll lose it.
