Exactly what I thought about her. I have always stated my case on her.Posts like this, where any dislike of a woman is automatically put down to gender, are why people like me are howled down whenever we try to raise genuine issues of gender or inequality.
Undoubtedly, a lot of people hated her based on her gender. But to me, your post seems to suggest that it was the primary problem that "people" (presumably people in general) had with her. It was not:
- She was a hypocrite, criticising footballers (rugby league players) for drug or alcohol indiscretions despite her own drink driving history. She didn't believe she should be held to the same account as players because "players are role models".
- She wasn't qualified for her job - there aren't too many better examples of nepotism in Australian media. I think you can get away with a lot as a journalist/columnist if you write well, and if you tell good stories. But she wasn't even a talented writer.
- Ask people whose photos were stolen from their social media accounts and incorrectly put on her front page article about A-League "hooligans" whether their hatred is based on gender. There were people's photos there whose only crime was having the same name as someone who had been banned. There was another guy who has spent 3 years fighting his ban cos he swears he was a bystander who lost his job as a result. (There's just a tinge of irony that you're accusing people of baseless, irrational hatred when that was Wilson's attitude towards the round ball game.)
I feel bad for her kids to lose their mother so young, because obviously her work as a columnist does not reflect on her as a mother.
But after adopting the approach of "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" for the last 3 days, I can't sit here and have genuine discussions around gender, inequality and women in sport discredited by trying to use people's dislike for Wilson as a shining example of what women in sports media deal with.
How good is it. Leech is mush better without him, no need for fake laughter.Do we know why Ox was missing this morning and well into the week?

Is anyone else having issues with SEN on a digital radio today.
I was listening then all of a sudden it dropped out.
He's terrible. I'm sure he's a nice bloke, but he just isn't the right bloke for breakfast radio.I dropped off when I heard the ox

I'd go as far as to say he just isn't the right bloke for radio, full stop. The thing is, he seems to be the host on the station with the best rapport among "average Joe" sort of listeners, so I suspect he'll always be involved in one way or another.
Like you, it makes you feel bad to say, because he does seem to me like a pretty good bloke.
But he just struggles so badly to express himself properly. You cringe every time he pauses and stumbles mid-sentence as he tries, and generally fails, to find the right words to use.
Wish he'd stay in Barwon Heads.he's in between worlds. if he dumbs it down he can resonate with the average SEN listener. If he tries to be intellectual of sorts, he is lost.
He can be the robbo of radio land, but has to decide and stick with it.

I do laugh when they do talkback on a semi serious subject and a caller will ring up, make a point and ox usually follows with "yeah, it's not good" and that's about it. He was awesome on Friday afternoons with MG and Turf.
Pickle Juice? Pickle Juice? GTFO of here. Bigger waste of a marketing budget I have yet to see.
Sports Australia HoF broadcast tonight. That's good![]()
It was actually funny when Harf said did you have a track when you got home late.Marko talking about creaking floorboards in his house is about as interesting as watching milk ferment.
