Had a possible look at how the draft may play out.

Picks 1 - 3 will be McCluggage, McGrath and Ainsworth. I don't believe we will bid on Bowes.
GC will pick Brodie at 4
Carl will bid on both Bowes and Setterfield - which will be matched by GC and GWS.

1. Ess Hugh McCluggage
2. GWS Andrew McGrath
3. Bris Ben Ainsworth
4. GC William Brodie
5. Carl/GC Jack Bowes
6. Carl/GWS Will Setterfield
7. Carl Tim Taranto
8. Frem Tim English
9. GC Sam Petrevski-Seton
10. Syd Griffin Logue
11. GC Jack Scrimshaw
12. Nth Jy Simpkin
13. WCE Sam Powell-Pepper
14. Adel Will Hayward
15. Port Jack Graham
16. Bris Jarrod Berry
17. Port Daniel Venables
18. WB Todd Marshall
19. Syd/GWS Harry Perryman

20. Syd Kobe Mutch
21. Ess Oliver Florent
22. Bris Alex Witherden
23. Bris Shai Bolton
24. St K Jordan Gallucci
25. Geel Cedric Cox
26. Carl Josh Battle
27. WB Willem Drew
28. Rich Dylan Clarke
29. Coll Brennan Cox
30. Melb Jonty Scharenberg

I have us selecting AINSWORTH, BERRY, WITHERDEN & BOLTON.
If Berry is picked earlier (probably GC at 10 or Nth at 12) then we could select Simpkin/Florent at 16.
Other options at 22 (instead of Bolton) could be Clarke, Drew or possibly Brad Scheer.

Like all those picks but I'd probably pass on Bolton for Parfitt, purely due to Bolton's slight frame (Parfitt being a lot more built and AFL ready). Parfitt probably a bit more versatile at this stage, and can play through the middle or be a damaging presence up forward. Also, probably a greater chance to be available at our pick. Wouldn't be surprised if Bolton was taken in the teens.

Parfitt will go late or rookie IMO.

Parfitt is a bit hard to read, i have read a couple of articles where he is rated pretty highly ie. in the 20s although most have him in the lower regions of the draft. IIRC he has been playing mostly against men in the SANFL, i can't recall though whether it was in reserves or firsts.

Personally, I'm pretty confident we will see Berry at the Lions.

Would have thought he'd appeal to the Suns at 10, hopefully your right seems a good prospect.
Where do you see his best position, potentially a wing

You're generally on the ball Cotter101 - hope you're right.

The two teams I think may look at Berry are GC and Nth.

GC will most likely select BRODIE, BOWES, SPS & SCRIMSHAW. With the loss of Prestia and O'Meara, doubts on Swallow and an aging Ablett, you would think they go for midfielders. So hopefully they pass Berry up.
The other team that could pick him is Nth, however, I feel that they will go for a goalkicking mid like Simpkin.
Fingers crossed that Berry comes our way.

Also, what are your thoughts on Brad Scheer? Could/should we look at him at pick 22?

You could be right 13Beast.
I think if we select 3 quality players at 3, 16 & 21 - players that fit our needs, I would expect they may take a punt at pick 22 with a player that has that x factor about. Hence why I think we may look at Bolton.
However, if we get Ainsworth, one/both of Witherden/Berry then I would expect us to look at players like Parfitt/Mutch/Clarke/Drew/Scheer at 22.

The thing I like about the top 30 players in this year's draft, is that after we pick Ainsworth at 3, there are very good players everywhere.
If we don't get Berry at 16, then Simpkin, Witherden, Florent and a few others are available.
At 21 and 22, there will still be plenty of good players to pick from - Bolton, Florent, Simpkin, Clarke, Scheer, Mutch, etc.
All it takes is one of those clubs in the pick 10 - 15 range to take a smokey (or take someone earlier than expected) and then this will have a ripple effect on the next 5-10 picks.
ie Nth/Port take Todd Marshall at pick 12/15 and this will effect the next 5-10 picks.

We're keen, and I'd imagine we'll snap him up unless there's a slider we rate pretty highly. I'd imagine GC go for midfielders. I know I would be if I were them. Wouldn't rule Port out of selecting Berry. There is still a lot of water to go under the bridge and clubs pull wild cards on draft night. Especially in an even draft like this one.

I like Scheer, but I fell better options will be available at pick 22. I'd pass on him.

I see him as a bit of a utility really. But I imagine through the midfield once fully developed. Should start off down back.

Great watch and read. I've been drawn to his attitude (not the breaking his opponents jaw part) and even though if McCluggage slid I wouldn't be dissapointed but I feel we need players with that grit and determination like Ainsworth.

I have nothing to go on but I would be very happy with
Pick 3 - Ainsworth
Pick 16 - Simpkin
Pick 21 - Witherden
Pick 22 - Walker

You look at Hawthorn's forward line and it's 'death by a thousand cuts' and I have no hesitation reuniting Schache with Ainsworth and Simpkin and there is possible scope for both to move into the midfield later. I think Witherden will slide and Walker will be the 'smokie'. Both HBF and elite kicks (supposedly). If Berry is still there at 16 I feel we would call his name out and this would effect the last two picks but I'm not sure if he is still there.

Between Ainsworth, Simpkin, Witherden and Allison that's a mucked up enough 2016 that there should be an immediately rapport between the rest of the squad and the new draftees!

I think the concentration will be on vic country boys given some of our new coaches

Parfitt has been playing League footy up in Darwin (NTFL) for past couple seasons and SANFL as well. He was one of the faves for the NTFL version of the Brownlow in his first season. Will be a quality player for whoever picks him up.

So no midfielders this year then when Nobel clearly said we're targetting mids this draft

the BF phantom drafters have all done a PD, thought it would be interesting to see who they have us picking up. just doing our first 4 picks ie. 3, 16, 21 and 22. if i could take one now i would go bishops or draftmes because i want Jarrod Berry, probably bishops if forced to pick 1 as he has added Witherden.

Bishop- Ben Ainsworth, Jarrod Berry, Alex Witherden, Jordan Gallucci.

Knightmare- Ben Ainsworth, Alex Witherden, Jordan Gallucci, Shai Bolton.

don patch- Ben Ainsworth, Shai Bolton, Sam Powell-Pepper, Kobe Mutch.

weevz- Ben Ainsworth, Shai Bolton, Jordan Gallucci, Sam Powell-Pepper.

scullywag- Ben Ainsworth, Alex Witherden, Shai Bolton, Dylan Clarke.

chris25- Ben Ainsworth, Will Hayward, Jacob Allison (swans bid), Alex Witherden.

draftme- Ben Ainsworth, Jarrod Berry, Sam Powell-Pepper, Shai Bolton.

7/7 have us taking Ainsworth. 5/7 Bolton. 4/7 Witherden.

Chris25 must have made a mistake with that allison bid
Chris loves to promote talent from outside the normal regions, and usually aims to have smokeys/Non-afl state players in his top 10, 20, etc. Loves to generate discussion and promote a few ways of alternate thinking rather than just pushing the group-think lines. I always enjoy reading his.

Don't see Allison going that high, but you never know - it takes 1 club to think he has big potential if he settles into a position for him to go that high.

I don't think there is any chance we'll take four midfielders and prior to Nobel coming on board I would have put the house on us not taking a South Australian but now I'm not so sure.

This was only the "Trial Run".
Some of the "drafters" like to lay a smoke screen as to who they like, hoping that a player they like might slip through when the "Real" Big Footy Phantom Draft is run (usually closer to Draft Day).

Our own Quigley is a past master at this tactic.

He stated 'versatile mids' which I've tried to understand. Does this mean able to play in other positions or is it someone who else is able to be an outside/inside mid? the other areas of note are small forwards/ an intercepting mark defender/ half back flankers. Not sure if it's to be done purely via this draft or if it is over the '3 year period' that they are quoting.
