Good points. Considering the hype when they revamped the place, it all came to a halt in an amazingly short time frame. Glad buffs didn't merge or it would've been 2 clubs suffering the same fate. Hope other new clubs learn from this-- if you go to the effort of drawing up a constitution with core values, a vision & mission statement, you'd be well advised to try and follow it. Transplanting a virtual entire team from another club to your own was always going to upset some of the natives and was a shortsighted gamble. New clubs need to be patient and allowed to evolve in their own time.

I think very valid points TT. I think any club now without a junior base or access or association with one will struggle moving forward and without doubt I think AFLQ will not sanction a license to play at least in the higher divisions.

They will probably still allow clubs to compete in Friday nights get footy.

Will be interesting to see what clubs that have doubts over finances, playing numbers etc as to where they end up and how AFLQ handle it moving forward.

I feel AFLQ doesn't look into club financials enough before, during and at end of each season.

Agree, wouldn't hurt to have complete transparency across all clubs.
 
As long as they can pay their license fees then not sure it matters if there is a swag in the bank. And for those who belted headquarters for not putting Suns up a division well maybe they were right... Even if they did keep their playing list, what sort of club structure revolves around a flimsy premise of 1 bloke? In fact must admit there are plenty of clubs that do but they dont go that well! Damn hard to build a good footy club, very easy to destroy one.

Transparency would only be a problem if you had something to hide.

Totally agree easy to buy 7 popular players from a Club and then watch their mates follow, harder to gauge and control by the Club when its all done underneath the table. Shortsighted yes but when part of the sell was let's win a premiership everyone got lost in that and that only. Only winner here is the Coaches CV and ego

No good laying blame on one person, it all happened right under everyone's noses, somebody should have been asking questions. Reckon the only way forward is for the whole club to own their decisions and rebuild from the ground up.

I don't believe there is a single club in Friday night footy that isn't affiliated with a Junior club directly. In fact, from what I can gather - many of the standalone clubs in the Friday comp were born from a desire for Juniors to continue at the same club - which isn't a surprise looking at the crap going on in this thread!

Interesting comments Benny,

When I was appointed to coach the Suns the directive from the President and committee was to put together a playing list that can move up into a higher division within two years, hopefully win a premiership in that time frame. The playing group were clear on the intended direction from day one. This was no secret with all recruits aware of the clubs on field plans to become the premier club within the area.

In regards to under the table payments, yes there were 4 players who received payment in 2015 from myself, all of which the President (Benny Head) was fully aware, I also arranged two other sponsorships that enabled the Suns to be financial at the completion on 2015.

In season 2015 the Suns received $26K in membership payments and sponsorships were 5 times higher than the previous year yet the Suns only had loose change in the piggy bank all without paying players and coaches.

For season 2016 the committee in December under Benny Heads leadership approved a coaching and player budget of $10k which was honoured by the club though out the season. My financial contribution was to pay my son’s and one other players memberships, and the purchase of playing jumpers directly from the supplier due to the club’s credit issues.

This season the Suns achieved something the Beenleigh Cobras, Logan Cobras were not able to achieve during the 31years previously whilst playing in the lowest divisions. Any ideas on why it took so long?

Unfortunately for the Suns whilst they achieved their on-field goals, off the field running of the club was very poor for the most part with massive disharmony amongst the committee and thus the Suns were held back in division 3 which has resulted in the current situation. Nothing to do with current finances as from all reports all accounts have been settled, not the AFLQ’s fault as they had no choice at the time. I had grave fears that the club would fold midseason such was the off-field mess. The committee did a terrific job righting the ship during the last 3 months.

If the Suns had been placed in division 2 I believe they would have kept and added to their playing list and been very competitive in that division, although with NO juniors (only up to U12’s not up to U19’s as I was told when accepting the position) and a weak financial situation the Suns were always going to be walking the tight rope. You can’t progress when lacking both.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day most the players were not prepared to continue to play at the Suns in a watered down weaker comp than the comp we had just aced. It’s that simple.

In regards to myself, the Suns were advised prior to the season that I would not be continuing as coach in 2017. All players and officials were made aware of my plans; it was no secret around the league.

Together with the playing group we reached our goals set by the committee back in 2014, we put together a list strong enough to progress up, won a flag, lost a senior grand final, lost a reserve grade grand final. I strongly feel we punched well above our weight considering the off-field issues that we were forced to contend with. I make no apologies for the on-field success, after all that’s what we should all be aiming for isn’t it? I make no apologies for providing and seeking other sponsorships for the club, how wrong is that? I also make no apologies other than to my wife for slipping a few players some coin in the first year of the Suns to attract some quality people, coaches and players, all at no cost to the club and for the benefit of the club. Without them we would have struggled.

It’s a sad situation the Suns are currently in, when your promised the World and are given an Atlas these things are bound to happen.

Funny you speak of Burrell the buffs tried to get him across but he turned down naming the southern stand after him .As for your skin folds Morro i dont think you have any .Havent heard what the brothers are up to this week but it will be something .

I did hear the The Buzz turned down an offer to return home, the naming rights to his pocket must have been tempting.

Kedron appointed a new coach for 2017.
2016 coach not keen for the job or just moved on...
If moved on a bit harsh after making gf. ..
any comments from the kedron big footy boys...
 
Hope he leaves the cheap shots out of the lower division then. Seems like a good guy off the field but not shy to put one below the belt while on field.

Strange that he would coach a senior side and play at another club? From what I hear Kenmore couldn't find right fit as coach do went back to Corrie?

Any news on Moreton Bay as heard Rob Dickfos has left there as well?

Will be interesting to see how Coomera and Cooly are travelling as well.

Very quite in Big Footy land as I think most clubs hooking into preseason and sorting out their recruiting.

Pirates just announced the recruitment of Chris Fletcher (suns) as assistant coach reserves and senior player.
Jay parker (robina) reserves coach and seniors player.
Matt Derrick (palm beach) senior player and b a Celine coach...
Three great pickups for the pirates...

Very happy with our recruiting thus far but we need to, big step up from last year and we have lost a wealth of experience from the club in players retiring.

No different to most clubs I would think and still a bit off Robina, Kenmore, Aspley and probably Moreton. Plus we didn't beat Kedron last year.

Will be a huge year for us to just be competitive.
 
If Rob Dickfos has left Moreton Bay, Redcliffe should be on the blower begging. Would whip them into shape and bring a crop of young players with him who would do a cracking job in this comp. Can't have redcliffe seniors not in finals next year.
