The numpty questions thread

Don't think Cian and Eagles are counted on our list ?

We should be able to have 44 senior/cat a rookies, and then three cat b rookies (Cian, Eagles, one of Hammelman/William).

We currently have 48 players.

I have a feeling the winner of the Recruit doesn't count against the list.

What are the rules for Rookie players and how many senior games they can play? Are there any restrictions to the number of AFL games they can play?

They can't play any games unless they are elevated to the senior list. They can be elevated if a senior player creates a list spot by retiring or going on the long term injury list. Once you are elevated there are no restrictions on how many games you can play that season.

At the end of the season you go back on the rookie list and can be permanently added to the senior list if the club wants (as just happened with Archie Smith).

Alright. Now to make me look like a complete idiot (well if that wasn't already established).

Can we recruit players specifically to play in our ressies team? How do we top up our ressie list?

This (PDF) is what it has been to date, very restrictive.

There was talk of us being able to recruit a few 19yos to play regularly in our NEAFL squad this year. I'd love to hear more details on that!

Next question. Are rookie players only signed to one year contracts? Do they have to be re-signed each year? Or, do they go back in to the rookie draft and are available to all teams, or do we have priority access to our own rookies.

Once they're on the rookie list they can be retained there - for up to three years - just by re-signing them.

The Roos seem like they have a decent history of being a well-run, relatively successful club...

...so why do they always seem to have struggled for supporters? Is it geography, time periods, ...?
Geographically they are close to the Dees (rich supporters pumping in $$ and therefore increasing pull in footy circles), Collingwood (no explanation needed), Carlton (ditto) and Essendon (big club as well). Not so far from Richmond either. So they have always been the underdog club scrapping it out with the big boys and just getting by. Similar to the Bulldogs as well who struggle for exposure in a saturated market. Not a dissimilar situation to Fitzroy in the early 90's once the game became more professional and reliant on sponsorship dollars.

IMO the best thing the dogs did was rebrand themselves as Western Bulldogs vs. Footscray. There isn't a significant presence out past the inner west of Melbourne so they've basically got most of that area supporting them. I would think it is the last of the 'live in that suburb, support that team' type setups in Victoria.
