But Trump is clearly a crook in his sphere of influence, primarily business. Trump University? Bloke just settled out of court for a total of $25 million for ripping people off with this bullshit. The disaffected have given a crooked, fraudlent businessman with views on the modern world from the 1950's the keys to the kingdom. Why the focus seems to be on sticking it up the left instead of this is utterly irresponsible but reflective of the thought put into the current state of the country/west by his supporters (and those totally pro-Clinton becouse she has a vagina).

Trump just dog whistled his way to the top offer little in the way of clear policy and less in the way of critical thinking. Whats sadder still is that is all it took. It doesn't say much for the voting masses.

I think the reality is that most of those who were hoping Clinton would get up was because she is seen as the lesser of two evils even though she has been directly responsible for decisions that have killed countless thousands. That doesn't reflect well on the other bloke.

I think you'd need to be pretty naive to believe that. Socially things are significantly better but organisationally not too much.

I have first and second hand accounts of cultural sexism and boys club mentality in some of the largest most public organisations in Melbourne, one of which has seen is female numbers drop to one over the course of two years. Nothing said.

A lot of the support for Clinton in the US comes from self interest. Trump could be impeached for being lazy and then Mike Pence could appoint people to the Supreme Court who overturn every single "social justice" initiative of the last 50 or 60 years. or trump could himself. Then the work of real "social justice warriors" in the US would be undone. Work that people died for back in the bad old days.

However if at the same time less people around Israel and in NW Pakistan die in pointless conflicts or drone bombings because Trump then Pence do disengage with the rest of the world, then it clearly is a case of a vote for Clinton = a vote for maintaining your own privilege at the cost of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the rest of the world. Nice double bind to be in as an American voter.

But I very much doubt that will happen. Pence and Trump are nationalists and identify with US power. They won't pull it back.

It is well known that the US and the Saudis have funded and armed various 'rebel' sunni groups including ISIS, whose membership is pretty fluid depending on how much they are paying. They are doing this to destabilise the Assad governemnt so as to enforce, ultimately, their will on the region and remove Russian influence is the region. The Russians of course having a long standing relationship with the Assad family and have a naval base on the Syrian medditerainian coast.

The Yanks did similar in Lybia, which was an extremely stable nation under Ghadaffi. Now it is a stuffed up ISIS infested shithole after Ghadaffi had his anus raped by a bayonet after the US led bombings for whatever bullshit reason they decided at the time.

Then we have the Shia Iranians getting behind the Assad forces and militias from Lebanon to push their agenda against the Sunni/Wahabbi Saudi backed ISIS/rebels/freedom fighters. Its a ******* mess and the Syrian people are the poor gooses getting screwed by this. The Yanks learned a great deal from the Germans after WW2 and became the propaganda masters in the 20th and 21st century. The powers that be control the media in that country and now in the west as a whole and use this in a concerted effort to control the narrative and distract the masses from the continuation of the geopolitical crap from the US and Russians.

Anyways. Not sure what Trump can do to change this. Not sure what he can do at all tbh. Trump was very vocal on saying that he didn't want the US to be in the Middle East anymore at all, so it won't be a US-staffed safe zone. Leave US troops in the Middle East to train the local police force/military institutions/armies to keep the safe zones safe? Would require a US presence in the region for a number of years to come, which Trump ran on creating the exact opposite of.

Without a concrete plan of how those "safe zones" remain safe and not just glorified abattoirs for insurgent groups around the region, it's all just empty promises IMO. When ambulances can't make it out of Aleppo because there's no defined chain of command or acceptance of responsibility and they're turned back into the worst hell on Earth, you wonder how anyone can promise anything for the Middle East.
